My hubby worked on a golf course for most of his working life, kept talking about going self employed but never had the guts to jump out of his comfort zone of regular pay, sick leave etc etc. He had a bit of a bust up at the golf course 6 months ago and walked out and set up by himself. He'll turn his hand to anything and has been walling, fencing, building, landscaping, done tree work, drainage, mole trapping, pest control. It's only the last week that he's quietened down. Having a well earned break! (getting under my feet more like! ) His plan is to work hard during the summer then ha

Opening Meet of the Season with the Beagles
shell replied to shell's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
There were 16 and a half couple out yesterday, 2 and a half couple were young entry. Food bill isn't that bad really. They are fed on tripes which Malc collects weekly, and costs £20 a week. To say we've 24 couple in kennels that's not so bad! Please do... I'm sure he grows them just to spite me! They are getting to be a bit of a joke though now. I sent you a pm last night.. if you didn't get it let me know. Meet card is a bit up in the air at the moment, just planning meets week by week. I'll keep you informed though and as soon as we get a meet card I'll pop you a copy in the -

Thanks Lurcher-lass! -
Hiya all, Me and Nim (2 yr old daughter) went to see Malc and the hounds off at our opening meet today. Just a couple of pics of the meet, didn't get so far up the fell as Nim wouldn't wear her wellies and I had to carry her. Malc and Nim. We're both so proud of her, she stood about in her wax jacket, flat cap, wellies, for a good half hour, while we mingled etc. She never wittered or moaned. Good as gold. Setting off. 'Daddy up there!' as Nim says! A lesson in nature for Nim on the way back to the car! Me and Nim had a nice couple of hours out. Mal

So sorry to hear about Meg. Don't blame yourself, it wasn't your fault. Having lost a 9 and a half month old lurcher pup in an accident on the moor last year I know what you're going through. Time does heal, things do get easier, but you'll never forget her. Remember the good times you shared. She was a beautiful pup. Happy hunting in the sky Meg. Sleep tight. Shell xxx

Sh*t not again. Will keep our eyes peeled being in the same area. Shell and Malc

Personally... terriers for me. We've used our Borders in the beating line quite a lot and they've gone into cover the spaniels wouldn't go in. So long as your recall is spot on a terrier will do you fine. Currently got a terrier spaniel cross. Mother is a Jack Russell cross Springer and father is a Border Terrier cross springer. She's about 14 months, and isn't as keen on going into cover like our young Border who is the same age. Ratting though, she did us proud on our recent trip to Lincs, even retrieving rats to us. A bonny little dog, a pleasure to have in the house and to handle, but

Interesting to know Millet, thanks for that . We're gonna get the front ones done soon anyway so it won't be a problem for too long. Interesting though! Shell

Noticed the difference straight away yep! It feels and handles so much better. We only got the back tyres done, so some time soon we're going to get the front ones done as well. Money well spent! Shell

Ah right Paddy... I understand now. Makes sense! We've had this a year now, and other than the sliding, we've never had bother with it. Just had an MOT and full service, no problems other than the odd minor thing. Can't knock it at all. Thanks for all your help everyone! Shell

She's back. They lady felt guilty about keeping her so has recently taken her back home! Shell

One of our Borders that lives with a friend was stolen yesterday. She's called Juby, is 3 yrs old. She's quite tall and long in the back. Apparantly the builders had left the gate open and she'd gone after a farm collie. She was seen in the car park of the Chevin pub at Guiseley, back of Otley, West Yorks. A woman picked her up and asked someone who's she was. She was directed to the house where Juby lives, but she never made it there. We're assuming this woman has taken her. A lot of people from Leeds way go to the Chevin pub, so if anyone hears anything please give us a shout. T

paddy - mis-read that and thought you'd put 'don't all crew cabs have lsd'... sometimes ours is like it's on lsd! Excuse my ignorance... but what is an lsd? Had the tyres put on today, already feel a difference when driving it. Will see how it copes in the rain. I still won't be hammering it round corners and roundabouts though. Still going to take it steady. Hopefully be attached to the road a bit better now though! Cheers, Shell

Millet - Getting them at Wilco Motosave. Should have been tomorrow, but they can't get them till Friday, which I can't do. So having them done on Saturday morning instead. website is - www.wilcodirect.co.uk/catalog/ shell

Just ordered some new tyres, BF Goodrich's. Get them fitted tomorrow morning. They've cost £79.31 each which I don't think is too bad. Thanks everyone for the advice... it's greatly appreciated. I'll let you know if it makes any difference. cheers guys, Shell

I'm aware of that Winchester... it's only got 38K on the clock at the mo, which isn't bad for an 2001 motor. Not too worried about that at the mo. just need to get the tyres sorted. Shell

I'm suprised you've got a mrs talking like that! :11: That's well nasty!!! And no... I'm nowhere near 35 stone thanks!

Hey Jasper... I hope your not suggesting that Malc gets me to sit in the back when we go anywhere...!!! shell

Thanks for the replies guys. Advice greatly appreciated. I moved from a SWB Maverick to the Navara. The maverick was brilliant - a pleasure to drive, but no good for transporting 7 dogs and child around! Love the Navara other than this problem. Fuel consumption is already amazing on it, so a bit of weight in the back won't make much difference - I already drive it with a diesel pump constantly attached to it!!! It's a greedy begar!!! Don't fancy messing about with the suspension as it does get used off road. Wouldn't want to risk its capabilities. The thing yesterday was that we

Cheers Jasper - I don't drive it fast or silly as I know what it can be like! I suppose part of the problem is knowing how it can be in different conditions. Thank God I've never had to drive it in ice or snow!!!! Although it is much better in 4wd! Think we'll look into some new tyres. Thanks again, Shell

Not sure what sort of tyres it is on... they've plenty of tread on them etc, but if new ones would make a difference I'll buy them. Money doesn't matter when it's me and Nimmy in the car. Would never forgive myself if anything happened to Nim (daughter) if something bad happened when she's in the car. When we had to have a new tyre because of a flat a few months back, I asked the lad at the garage (who is a sound mate of ours) if changing the tyres would help, he reckoned the ones we had were all right - it seems they might not be. Might have to look at getting some BF Goodrichs. Jasper -

Hiya all, I drive a crew cab Navara - family car, I use it to go to work and take little one to the babysitter, Malc takes it out sometimes with the dogs when he's going off road, and then if we go anywhere with the dogs and nipper as a family we use it. Other car is single cab Hilux with only 2 seats (no good for the 3 of us). Problem we have with it is it slides on the back end. It's happened the odd time with me and it has really scared me, happened a few times with Malc and it's scared us both (happened earlier tonight coming off a roundabout and we ended up mounted the motorway ba

I wouldn't mind knowing the reg number... I live in the same town as this bloke that's had his dogs nicked so it would be handy to know. shell
