has anybody any experience of either of these breeds for genuine work. I know there fairly vocal but this shouldnt be a problem on permission. Their feet and constitution looks as if they'd be ideal for hunting really rough shit land. In their own countries eg malta, spain, Balearic islands, they hunt on volcanic soil and really rough boulder strewn stuff. at the end of the day they are their equivalent of our lurchers. The price tag attached to pups of £700 is very off putting. I was just very interested to see if anyone had ever done anything with them? Probably the blood stock of bo

As if Police helicopters watching what we're doing, or antis with huge telephoto lenses, or undercover RSPCA officials, isn't enough... what about this ? Some of you might have already seen it, it's an oldish article. But then again, very few members on here will have heard of the New Scientist, never mind read it. Anyway here's the article. This only applies I suppose if you're actually out in the field, actually working your dogs, as opposed to talking pish from your armchair. All the best Malc

As for rats... These were taken with a team of borders and a couple of running dogs. Tally was 170 odd. Malc

I've currently got a team of 5 border bitches, and a 10 week old pup I've bred myself that I've high hopes for. All my borders are excellent bushing dogs, work nearly every day. Either pushing up or bolting stuff for the running dogs or the shotgun. One of my best bitches will even speak on a semi cold line. They'll all speak in cover on fox. Others will squeak on rabbit, and it's enough to let you know where they are. A real plus point of this strain of borders is that they all get on really well, and kennel / van up easily together. Pictures attached of my pack Malc

am i right in believing that the Tazis are slightly heavier than the salukis? I'm not saying salukis are thick, as I've seen ones that have proved me wrong, but are there brains wired the same? Before Paul Sagar died, bless him, I was quite impressed by one of his salukis, just how biddable it was. But, you're always fed lines about what they are like and you should make your own mind up. all the best, malc

Are you the guy who imported some Tazis and had a bit of bother fetching them into the country at the time? Just interested because it's a couple of years now since the Tazi was fetched in and was wondering how they'd gone on and how they compare to the Salukis we have in this country. All the best Malc

Thanks for the comments on the knife I've made. Like I say, it took bloody ages, unless you're a bit of a masicist with too much time on your hands and a large collection of sandpaper, don't try this at home, just buy one off midnight or spikeblue, or the other lads who make them on here! Because the amount of man hours that's gone into this... I don't know how they make them for the money they are selling them at! But... It's been a great learning process, I love the knife, and it's everything I wanted out of it. I can't believe that a cack handed git like me has managed to make it! I

Having been inspired by the video that midnight posted, and having decided that I wanted to make something that suited just me, and the job I wanted, which was a short bladed but full lengeth handled knife, with a full tang, I thought I'd have a go at building one myself. The steel was recycled from the bottom blade of a gang mower, spent hours filling it, sanding it, shaping it. Gave it a basic heat treating, the best I could do, and plunged it in oil while it was still glowing. Then tempered it in the oven. Re-sanded it all back up. Drilled it for the pins and lanyard hole, purchased

I used them about 3 years ago... managed to get me off the cigs, so would recommend them! I had really strange dreams too! Really wierd and vivid! I just woke up after taking them for about 2 weeks and didn't want to smoke anymore. Simple as that! Lit up, thought 'ergh', and never lit up again! Like I say, I've been off them for over 3 years now. It's gone allright, but there are still times I could have a smoke! You've got to tell yourself not to be so fukin daft and don't do it! Good luck, all the best, shell

They are lovely! I like the one with the 3 kids on best, but they're all good shell

Get in touch with your local council building regs... they'll come out and advise you on what you can do with the space and how feasible it is etc. There's a lot more to it than you initailly think - we ended up with fire doors, heat detector, mains smoke detectors etc etc. We lived in a bungalow, and wanted to convert the loft to accomadate one of us when I fell pregnant with Rye the other year. But the trusses wouldn't support the weight of another floor, and the new floor joists would have reduced the head height too much. In the end, we had the roof taken off the bungalow, the walls bu
