Would just like to thank AT and all the lads for a great weekends hunting a few weeks previous. We travelled over to UK. on the Friday morning and we stayed until the Sunday evening. Bit too much beer on the Friday night but went out on the Saturday onto good permission in different parts of England and had a couple of digs to the terriers. One being 9ft in very sandy dangerous ground, got over half way down and at least one fox bolted possibly 2 but where lost threw the thick cover. Headed to Wales the next day with 4 terriers and all 4 where dug too and all worked well, finished the day with

Drones Hovvering Over Yards
THE GENERAL replied to stonewall's topic in Earthdogs & Working Terriers
I've heard that you need a license to fly them now as there's privacy and information legislation brought in but as said who cares it won't stop people using them. There was one used in N.I. A few years back by the USPCA when the theivong scum Philprat was the head of the organisation. He didn't just steal from them either for that matter he was always known around these parts as a thief. Anyway the footage from the drone was used on the evening news where lads where out digging and the drone came over them. Think they had dogs confiscated etc. So it's nothing new. Thing is you do hear them as -

Terrier Taking Seizure
THE GENERAL replied to THE GENERAL's topic in Working Dog Health & Training Talk
Thanks AGA. No he's only had the 3 I know of in just over a year. I'm working a lot of the time I the missus is at home most of the day and then she goes off to work so there's usually always someone about. He's 100% 99% of the time lol. I know it's there in him so I'll keep a close eye, fingers crossed it never happens again. If it does get regular it will be a visit to the vets but I'll cross that bridge if I come to it hopefully not. I've read a lot online and some people say about protein levels in food etc. Could trigger some dogs to have abnormal reactions. Who knows but he's fine at the -
Terrier Taking Seizure
THE GENERAL replied to THE GENERAL's topic in Working Dog Health & Training Talk
Thanks for the advice GL. He hasn't taken one since and I worked him a few times before the end of the season, he's a decent dog just them few times it happened made me panicky to a certain extent about what I should do. A friend of a friend has a pet JR terrier that's only a year old and has started taking bad fits he got medication from the vets that didn't help whatsoever after blood tests and a lot of money he wasn't any better off. Some guy said out a drop of CBD oil on its grub every other day. The dogs been for free from he's done it! I know sounds like BS but I seen the videos he put u -
How Is Your Season Shaping Up.
THE GENERAL replied to fat man's topic in Earthdogs & Working Terriers
I've a few places like that few fields from my house. Dug two of them at the start of the season left them and haven't been near them since. My mate was over with the gundog and said they're well holding so i'll hit them a rattle start of next season hard to beat getting a dig at walking distance from the house. -

Creating A New Line Of Working Terrier?
THE GENERAL replied to Lenmcharristar's topic in Earthdogs & Working Terriers
Just to put things into perspective here, as it's hard at times with all the bickering and bullshit. A good friend of mine had a dog from a well known line and he bred it to a bitch another man owned that was related to the same line. They kept back a few pups between themselves, but friends of friends where asking about pups and they where given them to run on. The way it should be! A year past, no word back about how one dog in particular was shaping up, it came to nearly 2 years after the pups where born and my mate contacted the lad and asked how the pup he'd been gifted was getting on! -

Creating A New Line Of Working Terrier?
THE GENERAL replied to Lenmcharristar's topic in Earthdogs & Working Terriers
Good shout Neil. I've never put down line bred dogs. Not everyone has that quest to drive for and the ones like yourself that do and many others, I have respect for. The point that I was making was the lads that don't have many trustworthy contacts or a close network of friends, will find it difficult to line breed. So breeding worker to worker between themselves..Breeding the best black/fell types up and down the country from dogs/bitches they've seen work week in and out. They seem to be doing alright for themselves! But hey, they're only scatter breds as some would call it. Why? Because the -
I used a bolt gun for years killing cattle sheep deer and lambs, very easy to use tool with great results if handled properly. Seen an older guy one day turn it and the end caught his sleeve the bolt shot right up the inside of his arm along the bone, it wasn't a pretty sight.

Creating A New Line Of Working Terrier?
THE GENERAL replied to Lenmcharristar's topic in Earthdogs & Working Terriers
that's the type, just workers to workers, do you breed your own now general? and have you any pups off them that workedNo I don't breed as I only have dogs. It's been 8 years from I had a bitch in the yard and I lost her to ground. Not to say I wouldn't take another bitch in the future though. All my dogs have been gifted to me by friends, digging partners or just genuine terriermen that asked would I like a pup from there litter. They're all bred from good dogs and bitches but each dog has completely different lines in the sire and dam side and none the same line in any of the other dogs. Non -

that's the type, just workers to workers, do you breed your own now general? and have you any pups off them that workedI do believe line breeding is definately a way to get a higher percentage of workers but the thing about it is you could have a genuine guy line breeding good stock but assholes that don't know how to rear, look after and run a terrier on properly ending up with the pups so that could fk it up on the man. Then you can get genuine lads breeding dogs that they have with a good network of lads that they know will do there best to rear the offspring to the best of there ability an -

Not the best photo as the focus was on the red bitch in the centre, little bitch on the left Plummer terrier breeding, never saw a rat in her life, was an out and out digging terrier and worked to a very high standard. IMG_0241.JPG Nice looking yoke Mango, I'm not saying they'll not work to ground far from it because I've no experience with the breed and that terrier looks like it's seen work. I was looking an explaination as to why SOME folk that keep this type of terrier reckon they are more versatile than most other breeds of terrier? My point being that not many of the owners do serious ea

Creating A New Line Of Working Terrier?
THE GENERAL replied to Lenmcharristar's topic in Earthdogs & Working Terriers
Every terrier I have in the yard has been part of a line of terriers but none are of a direct line. Each terriers parents are off different lines. I'm doing alright for myself, maybe I'm just lucky or maybe I'm getting the best of both worlds. Edited to add not one of my terriers are related in any way at all. -
That's fair enough. To be perfectly honest if they're not doing much earthwork that's the reason why they don't carry many scars, but if they're so good at ratting then obviously then they're gonna pick up some, say in a good day some dogs could be killing rats in big numbers. A broken coated terrier will hide most of all this which a Plummer won't. So in reality then they're not as versatile as people say they are as they're just trained by certain men to do a variety of tasks that any terrier is capable to do.
