    birchdown what weight is that dog in the picture,these oxcroft borders all look very frail to me and not strong enough to hold there own ,on the digs you had with him had he killed the fox when you got to him.

    only seen a few oxcroft borders,they seem small and i think they would be pushed about if worked on stuff thats seen terriers before.

    plenty of our own scroungers to keep without the likes of her joining them,the bennifit system just dosnt work,it should not be used as a long term solution for anyone,you shouldent as a tax payer be expected to pay so much towards people who have children and get housed and fed without having to do anything ,it just is not fair on people prepared to work.and how could you be proud of anything if you spend your life living off others. the bennifit system should just be a stop gap and contraceptives should be handed out with giros.

    well after reading this thread it looks like there is no need to revive the border,but i would have to see some of these working borders working before i was tempted to own one.

    i think a young terrier should be very keen to work needing held back till old enough to work,if it isnt in them there no good, a terrier should want to work deep or shallow desperate to meet its quarry, a terrier walking out when there is something in is not good unless its just going in differnt hole looking to locate,but if walking out when its found is useless,you read threads on here and it makes you wonder what is hapening to terriers,

    i have seen some very good border cross fell terrier and years ago a bedlington border which was good,i was talking of pure borders,are yours good finders and capable of dispatching a fox,or do they bay a bit.im not slaging borders as i would like to think there was some out there,the oxcrot strain is the most popular in my area and i think they look to small and light to do good they would be pushed about i think.

    well i am a few month short of fiifty years old allways worked terriers as did my father,following hunts or just out digging you didnt see many borders, years ago i tried one and it was a good finder but it struggled to finnish a fox which was hard to understand as he was a strong dog,others i have seen have had faults some were allright but i never seen a good un and lads who have been among terrier all there lives and are now in there late seventys will tell you they have never seen a good border, if most people were more honest about there terriers you would no that the border was fin

    fuji did you go out lamping with vic when he was running blue,or the earlier dog nipper,did vic not tell you how his blue was bred,do you remember what hieght the pups made when blue lined greyhounds as i never seen one bred that way.

    well stig barkers terriers willkinsons terriers and every other terrier in that district that was working were classed as fell terriers,mongrels really,the lakeland terrier has been the showmans dog for generations,and dont be daft enough to think white lakelands are throwbacks from years ago they were manufactured for profit as l think yo allready know,the fell terrier of years ago is probably as rare as hens teeth,greed ruined the genuine working dogs in the fells .with a lot of money being offered for terriers from the lakes some hill farmers decided to sell terriers to keep an income in

    your right in what you say,he has done more for the working lakeland than anyone,but he hasnt done much for the fell terrier which was allways more suited to work than a lakeland.
