  1. That is a monster . My previous PB was 19lb . But around my neck of the woods they don’t tend to be more than 17lb . That dog fox I just shot was carrying a lot of weight , he’d probably just eaten someone’s chicken.
  2. Correct ? . I got on the bathroom scales , got my weight , then picked up the fox . It was flickering between 19.5lb and 20lb but was more 20lb so like any good fisherman I went with the highest.?That’s my PB
  3. Out tonight for a good long session. The longer evenings are already starting to seem like an eternity, with nothing but absolute crap on the Television . The ground has dried up a fair bit near me and I thought I’d drive the fields . We have Maize stubble still and cut silage and rye grass drilling , and also rape that was direct drilled into wheat stubble . So all nice and drivable , without causing any damage . I saw more deer tonight than I’ve seen in a long time . I have just acquired permission next to a traveler site with two biggish fields that must total 40 acres . I swu
  4. Bunch of miserable man hateing hairy armpits . Or am I stereotyping them ??
  5. They aren’t real lesser’s. The real ones tend to look like the front row of the French pack . I’d tap the lot on the back of the head and kick em under the nearest hedge .?
  6. I think I would take what I could carry . I don’t move in drug dealer circles, but I know someone who has “ connections “. I wouldn’t be greedy , I would be happy for a few grand , no question’s . If you were to start wanting life changing money you would find yourself in a world of shit .
  7. I have a bit of an obsession with foxes . If you came around for a cuppa you would see ornaments, pictures, books , and now taxidermy devoted to foxes . The Mrs and kids think I’m nuts , visitors look a bit bewildered. But they are my passion……. and yet I kill them. even I can’t work it out .
  8. I’ve got to wonder how we all come to these theories. Because that’s all they are . I have spent hours upon hours in the pursuit of Charlie . With Lurcher’s , terrier’s, snares and shotgun and rifle. I reckon I know more than most but less than others . And I don’t know . The thing is I don’t spend hours observing their behaviour. If I see a fox it’s usually trying to get away from me or it’s dead. I hear them calling, but it’s usually later on and it’s to another fox at mating time . Then I would probably be putting on a similar sound on my Icotec and try to shoot it . I
  9. I’ve been a busy lately, doing a fair bit of shooting a night . Now the weather has turned a bit and I don’t want to get a stuck/ filthy truck or damage the drilling too much . I really needed to sort out something like a tripod or decent sticks . I was in the local gun shop on Friday and spotted some Blaser quad sticks. They have a sort of pistol grip front that allows you to track . I got a rifle down off the rack and took it out the back of the shop . It was rock steady , light being made of carbon fibre , just over 2lb in weight, and the pistol grip allows you to move the
  10. Go and enjoy yourself Stavross. It’s funny but when you finish keepering you will find out who your real friends are . Because when you are no longer in a position to offer sport to others then the phone soon stops ringing. So I was delighted to find that I hadn’t been forgotten by my old stalwart beater Dave who keepers a large estate, and they do a few modest days per season , for the estate owners family. And I am to be his guest. I can’t tell you what that meant to me . But who am I kidding, money talks and BS walks and if I thought that all these former associates were after
  11. Couldn’t agree more mate , I’m not sure I like all this “ banter”. I preferred it when everyone got on . I think we all need a group hug . ?? Bring it in guys ?
  12. I wonder how all this late putting birds to wood is going to affect their development? As a rule of thumb the earliest you shoot pheasants is about 19-20 weeks old . But this I would apply to birds released early and have a long warm summer to develop. A bit like growing tomatoes in a greenhouse , things grow better in the warm . Young birds spending energy keeping warm at night ? It’s why animals breed in the spring . But we can only play the hand that we are dealt , and guns must be grateful for any shooting they get , I know I will . But it will be interesting to see how th
  13. It’s not something I’m aware of over here Wolfdog . Looks like a bit of fun though . We have rifle ranges and target shooting, but I’m sure that the safety aspect of that kind of event would give the clubs too much of a headache.
  14. Don’t drag me into all that stuff, for what it’s worth I like the little sheep botherer .?
  15. While I was away on holiday this summer, my daughter was calling in to water the plants . She sent me a picture of what she thought was fox poo on the path at the front of the house . I said it was probably a cat , but she said it stank of fox . She thought it was hilarious . And mocked me with lol emoji’s. Anyway, when I got back I went out foxing . Upon my return home , I swung the truck round the corner to see a fox running out of my garden!!! ??? Might have to call the experts in too . Does anyone know any ???
  16. There is a suckler herd on the egg producers that I shoot foxes on. I’ve found the heifers very aggressive when I’ve been around at night . My guess is that the heifer was alone in the field and was having difficulty calving, couple that with a hungry fox , and it did what foxes do . Most calves pop out quick and are up and about in no time at all , and protected by mum . If the farmer was on the ball he could of brought the beast in and ratcheted the calf out . What you had was a perfect storm of poor husbandry , and a hungry maybe dumped fox .
  17. It’s a new one on me too . But then again , I’m never surprised at the things foxes do . It’s what makes them such a fascinating creature.
  18. We used to release some white pheasants and have had some black or melanistic ones too . I used to release the white birds and there was a donation to the air ambulance charity if they shot one (£50) . But they didn’t want too shoot them , either because they didn’t fly very well or they were too tight to part with the donation. Whatever the reason? We decided that if it flew over them and they didn’t shoot it then they paid the fine , but if they did drop it then everyone else chipped in . That seemed to be the best way .
