I was thinking of a trip out the last couple of nights, but with the rain and me being made of sugar . Sofa is the best place for me . It’s nice to feel that I don’t “ have” to be out .

I was next to a pheasant pen waiting for a fox which had been nabbing young birds. It was about 10.30 -11.00 pm . I heard talking, then I saw torch light . “ Poachers “ I went around to where they were . It was some of the holiday makers who were staying in the holiday cottages who got lost taking a shortcut back from the pub . They were stumbling around upsetting the birds . I was pissed off and they could tell . The guy got pissy in front of his Mrs trying to act the big man . I thought to myself then I’ve just about had enough of this . There are so many people out at all times of day or ni

Also it doesn’t hurt kids to not have everything they want. I didn’t have a lot growing up . There were things I wanted, like a new bike . But I could see that my parents couldn’t afford a lot , so when they asked what I would like from Santa I was realistic with my expectations. A lot of people can grow up and think that “because I didn’t have much , I’m going to give my kids everything they want , even if I can’t afford it “. I look around me at family and friends and I don’t think it is good for kids to have too much . I know some horrible spoilt kids , and I’

EDRD magazines in binders
shovel leaner replied to shovel leaner's topic in Earthdogs & Working Terriers
All yours mate . I will pm my contact details. You can send the money to whoever can get it to Johnny boy’s family. Or you can bring the cash and I will do a balance transfer to Walshie or someone. ? -
I’m 57 now and I think that people my age and a bit older had the best of it . But I think back and I was paying a mortgage in 1987 with interest rates around 10%_12% . “Stuff” in general was less available. My kids now have not one but two or three massive plasma screen tvs , dishwashers , new cars . I didn’t have loads of the latest things . I simply couldn’t afford it . I had old cars and vans , and I was always shelling out on repairs and breaking down . I never had savings and with a young family , things were tight . But I have finished paying my mortgage about 5 years ago .

I put a few down in the past . The idea on my part was just for a bit of a laugh for the guns . They like to see them . I attached a £50 fine to them if they were shot , and the money went to the local air ambulance charity. But the tight guns didn’t want to shoot them . So then I changed the rule so that if they flew over them and they didn’t shoot they paid a fine , but if they shot it then everyone else paid . Raised a shit load that way .??

Non toxic shotgun shells
shovel leaner replied to shovel leaner's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
They are a lot better than plastic wads in my opinion. I don’t like seeing plastic wads around the place . These things just break down in a few days and are sticky jelly like things that turn to mush. Only a lot bigger . ? -

This is a pro eco wad from Eley . I thought it was some weird fungus , but it has got wet and started to bio degrade . -

The wads are so say bio degradable. They go by such names as “ eco-wad or earth wad . The shoot owner has done experiments with wads in jars of water . Some degrade quickly others not so quickly. -
I could write a book about all the scrapes and shenanigans he got into and managed to drag me in with him . He just didn’t play by the rules . He was your original cowboy builder. Building regs …. Don’t bother with that . He once got me to do a stud wall over acro props on a load bearing wall . I still drive past that house and cringe . We once did a screed in an extension. When the screed arrived the driver said the retardant in the screed gave us a few hours to work before it went off . “ Dat meant we could all go to da pub for a “swift point or two “. Jesus we got back and it

EDRD magazines in binders
shovel leaner replied to shovel leaner's topic in Earthdogs & Working Terriers
That is great , if this is turning into an auction I will close the bidding 10.0pm on Friday. -
He was probably one of those paddy’s in the vans . An incredibly hard working man . He did very well for himself and had a good building business. But he looked like he didn’t have two pennies to rub together. I worked for him for a while and the stories and the laughs the lads had , very often at his expense. Characters like him just aren’t around anymore .

I’ve had a clear out and I would like to find a new home for a collection of EDRD magazines in their binders. It’s 256 -322 in 7 binders . They are in excellent condition. I don’t want any money for myself. Instead I would like a donation to be made to the THL Johnny boy fund for his family . I didn’t know him , but he sounded like a decent man . They weigh a ton , so I won’t post them . I’m in Gloucestershire, so pick up only . PM for details.

I’ve been loading on a shoot that has gone over to non toxic loads . The brief that the shooters have is that the estate is pushing for non toxic shot this season. They want the guns to bring their own non toxic shells . As long as thief gun is proofed for steel …. Use steel . Otherwise an alternative to steel , bismuth, or tungsten matrix. Have you checked the price ? The guy I loaded for today was shooting bismuth 20 bore £1,600 for 1000 . Eley 12bore steel about £500 a 1000 . I loaded for a chap on Monday who I have loaded for before . He shoots 5 days

I used to have a vine in a greenhouse in a house I had years ago . My father -in - law , who is a really rough old paddy wanted the grapes to make wine out of . I didn’t want them so he took them and made some “ wine “ . He proudly came around with his first vintage bottle , and eagerly poured me a glass and was looking straight in my eye for approval and validation . It was all I could do to not squint as it was really horrible and vinegar like . I’m no wine expert , but I knew it was “ Shit wine “ . Now I’m not one to speak I’ll of the dead , but my wife’s dad was someone who
