Because a Womble got there first ?

I absolutely hate litter . While working as a keeper I was amazed that people who came into the countryside to enjoy the surroundings would just leave their litter , sandwich wrappers, coke cans , BBQs , crisp packets , you name it . Then my absolute favourite…….. dog shit bags !!! Why pick up your dog shit in a bag , tie it in a knot and throw it in a tree or bush , that then takes years to bio-degrade? My second favourite was helium balloons, and Chinese lanterns. If I saw litter I stopped and picked it up , I felt like Womble not a gamekeeper. The locals who walk their dogs and t

Well done . It’s my pet hate . If I see them I pick them up . I blame semi auto’s. What’s so hard about picking up your cartridges, or just puttering them in your pocket ?

Surprise for the old man

Oh , to be able to just go and buy any rifle/ caliber you see . We have to apply for it first. Have a good reason , then wait for the police to grant it ( or not ) . Then when we have a slot on our ticket , then we can go shopping. It kind of spoils the spontaneity. -

When / how often do you check Zero?
shovel leaner replied to shovel leaner's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
I had an accident on a quad and rolled it . The quad went over my CZ .223 with a Schmidt and Bender scope .The rifles barrel was stuck in the ground and the rifle was squashed into the damp ground. After pushing all the soil out and cleaning it , I was amazed, It was bang on . -
After reading some posts in this section, there seems to be varying opinions on when or how often you should check Zero . For what it’s worth, this is what I do . Once zeroed, I leave it alone, I don’t check it every time I go out . If I drop or knock the rifle , I will go home and check zero before my next outing , but I have also shot rabbits to put my mind at rest after a miss . If I miss ( sometimes you know it’s you and not the rifle) and think there is something not right , I go home and don’t continue . I will check zero before my next outing . If I am trying a different

Having done some rearing myself, I would guess that the birds you have got are the “back ends”. When we caught up the birds and crated them up for delivery to shoots any that were poorly feathered or small went into a separate pen and were given a bit longer to develop. These then went on to smaller shoots that didn’t want to put the birds down early. There could be a week or so difference in age but not much more . Did you have them clipped ? I bet the birds you saw up the track hadn’t been clipped. By my calculations, your birds will be 19 weeks on the 3rd Decembe

Well done young man , good shooting . And a good write up . We expect nothing less now . I’ve got two grandsons, the eldest is 12 , He is football mad , i had managed to take them both around the shoot while I have been looking after them , and I got the 22lr out for them to shoot some targets . But their mothers have given me strict instructions not to get them to “kill stuff”. I think their first fox is a long way off . But I am working on it . They loved the rifle and Ive got an air rifle and pistol which they shoot in the back garden . Boys love guns .

My Mrs was looking on Gumtree ( it’s a free classified adds site) , “ there is a pistol on here you might like “ . She was right , and it wast long before I was the proud owner of a Wembley Tempest air pistol . I can remember having a Gat gun as a kid but was never able to afford a pistol like this . I have had the grandkids plinking in the back garden and it has brought the kid out in me too . They are great fun and it’s surprisingly accurate. -
I think it would go with the pink strap he already has .
