  1. And doesn't everything run better in daylight?
  2. Off topic again but I think its just as unfair on the dog as it is the hare to run it in the lamp instead of daylight. Cos when the hare gets away its almost always through no fault of the dog. Always either outrun the beam, go over a brow or through a hedge. If you can keep them in the beam any half decent lurcher will stop a few without much bother. Its keeping them in the beams that's the hard part, not actually catching them. That's why my dogs got a better ratio in daylight
  3. And coursing didn't get banned cos the people coursing them didn't have enough respect for them. How is blasting them with a shotgun and letting them take weeks to die somewhere shoeing respect? That's what happens instead
  4. All hares were run single handed in winter and in daylight. Cant give a hare any more respect than that. And some of them did get used, they were used as puppets. Best coursing DVD I've seen, looking forward to the next one. You'd have to be mad to take hares home nowadays. You'd have to put little value on your dogs
  5. Been out with chief. Hes a complete running machine. Seems to have 3 lungs and all the speed of a greyhound. Closes the big gaps easily and once hes on em hes glued. Couldn't believe the difference in him from September to October. Best dog I've seen around cover in 3 years hands down. Would love to own such a perfectly bred coursing dog. Not even my dog and I cant wait to see what he turns into after hes run plenty.
  6. I only do it I they get fussy about what they eat. Theyll eat anything after a day with nothing
  7. nobody has said theyre waiting for the perfect conditions. Its only hard ground people are complaining about not imperfect conditions. And personally I think a small whippet x is far less likely to injure itself on hard ground. My littelun touchwood has never had anything other than a knocked toe and ill run him on almost anything No but you did say earlier, about putting little value on your dog and running it on hard ground if its like concrete, i would never make such a comment about how another man values his dogs nor would expect anybody to say the same about me or mine, i know what my

  9. So now i put little value on my dogs . They are lurchers. Not pedigree whippets. My dogs are not "slipped" daytime. They hunt/work for themselves like they were bred to do. My dog's are'nt the type to run a 6 minute course and bore me to death. Few if any chases last longer than a minute. But i bow down to your superior knowledge and will now lead walk them round the local park until sufficient rain has fallen ,so as not to scuff their toenails or stoppers . youre the one preaching here on when we should run our dogs not me. And my dogs are hardly ever on a lead when I walk them. But theyr
  10. Thick fog and rock hard ground are the only conditions most of us avoid. That's hardly waiting for the perfect conditions
  11. Not gonna stop running them when its too wet or even when its frosty. But unless you've got a lightweight dog and the grounds like concrete youd have to put little value on your dog to slip it and risk ruining its whole season instead of waiting
  12. bred for running, wont be doing much of that very well with broken toes, snapped nails or split pads
  13. Ran hard plough by accident once, cut the dogs feet and legs a bit. Wet plough I've never had a problem with. Well my dogs haven't, I have!
  14. Saluki grey type from a fast line. There's plenty about, you'll know exactly how its bred and wont sacrifice too much speed like you might if you used a lurcher stud rather than a longdog. Pick the raciest pup and then all you can do is cross your fingers, toes, arms and legs
  15. Chihuahua Yorkie X whippet mate believe it or not
  16. Seasons practically here, had 3 injury free dogs for a while now and all 3 getting fit for once. Lets see how long it lasts. Finally found something to catch local aswell
  17. Probably cos he went across a load of average bitches
