Meaning you may get yours eyes opened with a different dog.. As a young lad I never owned lurchers and went out with friends( mostly being a pit pony) lol.. I always thought there dogs were amazing cause they caught rabbits.. But since owning my own dogs and mixing in different circles ,looking back these dogs would be below average.. None retrivers, hard mouthed and doubled up on anything bigger than a rabbit.. Your current dog only has to please yourself and that the really important bit, however 95% of lads on here would not even give it kennel space.. Your dogs limited.

also what did you mean by it will not live with a decent one?

ive run out of likes giro but you may well be right. The thing youve got to remember though is im into this purely for the enjoyment of myself and my dog/dogs. they will always be pets and will never get neglected. i love a mouch anyways and the littlun works cover like a terrier so they probably will make a good team. But as for not lamping with the littlun, you may prove to be right but i hope your wrong and i hope the reasons i got into the sport stay the same as they are now. I think id have to consider quitting the game altogether if it got to the stage where my dogs were just tools and

was that at me haha no mate at lurcher1
-
Mate i still laugh now at what he is, everyone does. It just makes me laugh that people originally having a go telling me to get a proper lurcher then when i ask for advice where to find a decent one theyre trying to rip the piss out of the breed of my dog, get over it lads ffs. And yea when he got his first proper capture on the lamp it was probably the best buzz ive ever had. He got faults that would call a lurcher shit for having, like the odd yap and not retrieving but he does the most important part pretty damn good to be honest, he catches them and hes getting better at it all the time.

TBH you and morton started any bickering............. my FFS was that your already looking for another dog after telling everyone a few weeks ago how you would put all your time into your toy breed cross, which is now yapping............ then i asked why you wanted a rough coat, which wasnt really an out of order question.......... but you crack on, i couldnt care less about yours or anyone elses dogs unless i go out with them............ You started it mate by writing ffs! The truths come out now you just wanted to hijack the thread cos of the breed of my dog. It doesnt matter that

yea that is annoying, my dog comes home from an hours bushing looking like a bush

aint turned into an arguement with me more like a disagrement everyone has different opinions would you of told someone you didnt know that they just made themselves look a right tool just for saying they show their dogs?
-
Is it possible to start a thread on THL without it turning into an arguement? What makes me laugh is that 99% of people rowing on here would probably be completely respectful to each others faces but put em behind a keyboard and watch em kick off

I am doing everything i can to make sure its from good working stock. The coat isnt my priority, its ability in the field is the most important thing but smooth or coated lurchers can make good dogs so why not choose the one that i prefer the look of. If it turns out there arent any coated pups from proven parents available to me when the time comes, I'll either wait unitl there are, or get a smooth bitch that is from proven stock

whippet x greyhounds are useless ?
crorider replied to CallumDonohoe's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
Your welcome mate. How old is yours? They do just "get it" eventually. Keep getting as close as you can before slipping. And dont slip untill the rabbit moves. You should feel the lead go tight as his body stiffens as he sees it. If you have a mate with an experienced dog it would be good to go just for your dog to watch. do they all just get it eventually? cos mine still touch and go wether he runs the beam to find it or not cos most nights i cant get very close to them round my way -
Showing aint my cup of tea but each to their own i say

Can't understand why beardie lurchers aren't more common, although I do like a mix of beardie and border. In my experience they hunt more for a scent than the pure border x greyhounds. They have very good skin, excellent feet, clever. Mine had so few injuries, was the best hunting dog I've owned and very easy to live with. Can't think of a better mooching dog. Oh, and he had an ace coat better than most beddie coats by far. Thats why i thought maybe they werent as good as a border x cos you dont see half as many. interesting though, maybe a beardie x could suit me well
