You do your 2 year probationary service on the beat, then you are able to specialise in specific departments, be it CID, neighbour hood patrol or armed response. The thing is with dog handlers, is its so hard to get in. for one peple who become dog handlers are thee for life, so vacancies only come up when they retire, then when vacancies do come up the application list is huge, then theres the tests-which i would imagine are pretty difficult.
