  1. Good of you to contribute, welcome to the forum
  2. Reason 1 - they are lazy, the seller lies, claims the dog is ''the champion of the fens..70 out of 70 hares 35 Jackalope and a sloth bear last season, the dog is so obedient, loving...for sale through no fault of his own'' So idiots buy them to save themselves the trouble of training and raising a dog. Reason 2 - Impatience. People want a dog to take lamping and coursing and they want it NOW, not in 18 month but NOW DAM IT Reason 3 - anxiety about making mistakes, coping with a young pup, getting it wrong. Not all youngsters are lucky enough to have the elders to teach them the right
  3. Sorry I posted twice just figured out how to use the 'quote' thing
  4. Got ten at present matey, and getting another tommorrow. I'm lucky to live on a site where space is not an issue, we got a big secure field, and nice big yard. Only downside is they all sleep in my waggon with me at night (to guard against dog theives) Might be getting another Saluki next week but she's not a worker, just needs a new home

  6. The term 'RUNNER' may be a little over optimistic, it will likely be quite a heavy set beast, more of a 'charger'and maybe not the most agile lol but all the best with that
  7. HOLLY, POLLY, NELLIE, Ellie, Lilly, Kite, Sallie, Cedar, Meg, Mist, Swift, Selkie, Ember, Brier, Gorse, Ivy, Poppy, Pearl, Crystal, Willow, Ruby I know they don't all sound like 'Collie' but it's easy change a dog's name. These are all names my lurchers / Saluki / sighthounds have /had
  8. I know this is an old thread, but just came upon it and couldn't resist. I have a Borzoi, she's the dogs bolloks for rabbits, works well with other dogs and is pretty much like a big saluki. They are good dogs in the right hands, and I think there are a few people on here who have one
  9. Hi, I am also in staffs, north end, welcome to the forum
  10. My first was a Saluki / Grey with a touch of collie, she was a fantastic dog, very keen, used to catch for fun when we were out walking, this bitch could take woodies and pheasents as they flew low overhead, she was obedient, responsive and had the reflexes of a mongoose. Her only 'bad points' were that her recall was not always great and once she had her quarry in her sights nothing (not even a barbed wire fence) would stop her. She cost me a bit in vets bills. She also never learned not to chase sheep or lifestock, but I learned loads from her. LOL I miss that dog. She lived to n
  11. Have to say I agree with all the lads who are suggesting the dog be put to sleep. The dog can not be a pet and is a liability as a guard dog if it has such an apptitude to kill another dog at the drop of a hat. I most certainly would not risk passing this dog to anyone else, as the possible consequences are dire
  12. Have to say I am familiar with the site in question ' Preloved' and I have seen some appaling stuff on there relating to dogs for stud/sale and about 1000 variations of spelling of 'Saluki' A lot of advertisers seem to have the I.Q of a dog turd themselves, in some cases this is insulting to dog turds, HOWEVER there are a few lurcher lads who advertise excellent pups on this site. I got two of my current Lurchers from one such individual, and two of my Saluki and they are cracking dogs, I'm very pleased with them
  13. Lovely looking dog, good luck with him
  14. How tall is the dog? I own a Saluki / beddie / collie / whippet mix which is the image, even down to colour, of that dog. Could also be Saluki / Grey with a bit of collie, as the dog looks like he will be quite tall Trying to upload a pic of my matching lurcher but it keeps tellin me the file to big
  15. hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm shiny things
  16. Hi. I've also just joined, though I do do lots of shooting (only animals that are edible, and rats) my main love and interest is the lurchers and working with them. So hi from rainy grey staffs.
  17. Warren near me has had a few full white rabbits, quite a lot of blacks and a few 'peachy' ones like yours for years now. It's because people used to dump domestic ones among them and the traits keep popping up, I think.
  18. I had a fantastic Saluki / grey who also loved to chase sticks. On one run she had grabbed a stick from the ground, hoping I'd throw it for her, then she saw the 'bunny' and shot off. In her excitement she still had a large stick in her mouth and chased her quarry along a hedge, very close, looking like she was trying to beat it to death instead of catch it. She didn't get it that time of course, but the laughs it gave me were compensation enough for the lossof the quarry
  19. Hi, matey, you don't know me as just joined (though used forum a lot for advice info. etc) Anyway, that's awful. Have three salukis and can empathise with how you must be feeling. I once had an awful experience of my beloved terrier being torn apart by two big lurchers who had lived with her for years then suddenly just decided to get shut of her. It's really traumatic to lose a dog like that - heartfelt condolences *** Hindsight is a great thing, pity life don't have a rewind button, you learned the really hard way re. your dogs, as did I. Very sad**
  20. I've just joined the forum, though I've been a lurker for quite some time and just can't resist any longer. I live in the North Staffordshire area, and my interests are mostly in my (and everyone else's) working Lurchers and Saluki dogs, I have three great dogs and a puppy I am just bringing on, last season was her first, and at 19tts and very eager, she consistently brought my salukis down before they had a chance of catching a thing. LOL she's very keen, hoping she will have matured a bit by next season. Aside from the dogs and that side of things, I love nature, camping, motorcy
