Evening sussex, I can't open the attachment, not sure if the problem is my end ?? Sorry to hear about your message getting lost that is so frustrating you feel like throwing the computer out the window.
-
"sussex" That's a very valid point about deer staying in the woods later due to food abundance and not coming out until after dark, that's when plan B comes into action, Then I realise I have no plan B ???
-
Thank you Gents for confirming that for me. Iv'e just been informed were possible in for some bad weather next week certainly cold, still, the woods are rammed with acorns and beech--mast, Its the best crop iv'e seen in years, should hold them for a bit!

Well done "sussex",a nice mornings stalk, it's a great feeling when everything comes together. You mentioned the sheep in the fields; Twice recently I have witnessed deer in the same field as sheep which is unusual as you mentioned. Last year whilst in Scotland I frequently saw Roe mixing it with sheep. Iv'e yet to find out what it is with sheep that deer don't particularly like. They are not a threat to deer, so could it be ground scent caused by the sheeps poo or something similar ??

The 17 hmr is more powerful and will kill at much longer ranges than the .22 rim fire Have a look on the internet, type in something like " .22 lr vs 17 hmr" or look on YouTube at the hmr in action. It has always been a very long debated subject as to which is best and what one to buy. Do some homework and then make a decision, both are extremely good rifles and you will be happy with your choice. The .22 is prone to ricochet and the 17hmr can cause meat damage but if you are shooting rabbits with the 17 do head shots and they will be edible. Hope that helps a little. -

First, renting a house is no problem whatsoever. As long as you have agreed permission with the land owner to shoot a firearm on his land I suggest you download an application form for a firearm certificate from the internet and make a start to fill it in. Also keep an eye open for a secondhand used gun safe and buy one to accommodate a minimum of 3 guns/rifles or more. You could apply for a .22 rimfire and a .17HMR rimfire at the same time. There is plenty to read about both rifles on the internet and probably on this forum if you search. You will not have to buy two rifles initially, it -

The DSC Level does not run out, it's for life unless they choose to move the goal post's in years to come? I'm afraid to say that I cannot see you being granted a centre fire by your FEO with little or no knowledge of rifles, most people start with rim-fires and slowly progress to larger calibers when they have gain experience. If you have land to shoot over and it is passed for a rimfire I don't see why you should be refused. I hope I don't sound to negative but you can't jump into the deep end where guns are concerned, there is a lot to learn. Applying for your DSC 1 would be a good -
Great filming "glogin" I enjoyed watching that.

Astral said, "I would love to be able to go deer stalking oneday, must be such a rush. Until then I need to figure out how Im going to fit a full fallow in the boot of my punto as we've just been offered one for 3 quid a kilo...However comes unjointed!" This wouldn't be a buck by any chance would it ???

Enjoyed the read Matt, a nice stag. Did you say to yourself when dragging it back on your own, sweating and puffing like hell, "why did I pull the bloody trigger" ??? I know I always do, but when iv'e got my breath back about 2 hours later that big smile reappears and I,m ready for the next one. Hope your family are better now and you didn't get to much of a rollocking!!

I very much enjoyed the read Martin, I can also relate to coming home with nothing in the bag after all the work you put in. How'ever you are right, it's not all about pulling a trigger. -
Well done Steve. We shot a large buck last night and it stunk to high heaven. I haven't heard any calling as yet but he was certainly a rutting buck.
-
You seriously couldn't make this up..............

SJB1956 replied to SikaTears's topic in Deer Stalking & Management
Sika Tears, Just a thought, I have the DVD and it is good, however, you will learn just as much from the locked topic in this section by " Caprelous " who offers all that you need to know on carcass inspection and the bonus is you get all that info for free. I also know what it's like to lend out a DVD never to be returned! -
That's exceptionally early Ken, good luck mate.

Is it only happening to me or what.

Same as above, someone could make a lot of money if they came up with a more robust design. -
There is a right time to call and like Stu said, less is better.

My personal view is that you give it a wide berth. Mine is a converted upright fridge minus all the draws. Either side on the top of the fridge drill two holes then cut a piece of ply the same size as the top and then continue to drill two further holes in the ply so that the holes line up. Insert two long bolts down through the top then cut a piece of tube the width of the internal fridge and mark where the bolts touch then drill two more holes through the tube and secure with the correct size nuts. Make sure the fridge has a built-in fan before purchase. I can get two Roe or one Fallow in mi
