Personally id avoid buying from adverts featuring names like that not because of there being somat wrong with that type, morethat those names tend to be used by lads breeding for £££. And if you do drop on one truly bred that way it will want more than rabbiting

Most of the extras that have been mentioned are relatively simple for virtually any half decent lurcher to do, however the FULL range of quarry is a totally different matter. You cant train a dog to have heart and bottle, its either in them or its not. And finding a dog that genuinely has these qualities and can pass them on to its offspring is a rare thing indeed.

I'd agree with that JD, though for me the bottom line has to be 'able to catch all quarry whenever required'. Thats exactly the way I look at it Bosun

Like I said pal its subjective one mans allrounder is different to another's. Its all about youre needs and the dog being able to do all the jobs asked of it, I dont go ferreting at all so its not on my list and only shoot occasionally and thats on the lamp from 4x4....as I said mine need high drive to do what we require.

From the replies here it shows how widely people's view of what an "allrounder" is varies. For me its taking ANYTHING that gets up. For others its also doing a gundogs jobs etc

I knew when I posted this that people would warn about how much of a handful they are. Hes not the type who gets dogs on a whim he just doesn't know anyone who currently keeps em so I said id ask on here for him because hes not into using the web.
