  1. I think harrises are fantastic birds and will have you out in the firld hunting in no time BUT i dont think they are a great learning tool.I started with a kestrel when i was 11 and a buzzard after that and caught with both(granted not a lot) but the grounding they gave me was invaluable. The buzzard especially taught me most and was a nightmare if you didnt nail her weight down she would just f**k off on you and it was impossible to get her down for a day or two,she was footy, bad tempered and highly strung but it taught me to respect her and to work within a tightish weight range. The Kestrel
  2. emma fords book faconry art and practice and JPJ book training birds of prey are very good for complete beginners.Nick Foxs book is very good if not a little indepth in places to take in if your not experienced.Ive not read it but falconry y2k is sopposed to be very good also
  3. The trannys on this system looks like you have a can of f***ing redbull tied to the birds tail they are huge and cumbersome and as a friend once said about the system "they couldnt find their arse with their hands"

    Getting excited

He is a looker Kat,hope you have a cracking time with him.Im hoping when im in a position to give a bird the attention it deserves it is a pursuit falcon of some type, a pere/saker or pere/gyr
  5. Does any of you Northeast crow hawkers fancy a few days out this summer crowhawking? A farmer of mine is having a nightmare with crows on certain crops and asked me to "get rid" we will shoot as many as we can but the invitation is there for a resonsible and trustworthy (i.e not trying it on when im not there!) fellow as long as myself and a friend can tag along.

  10. she does look the same down to the white on her chest, she looks a nice size, how old is your sprocker, ive aways wanted to see if there was any difference in a full cocker and a sprocker work wize, how are things with your dog, She is about cocker size, maybe a touch larger but her sister fro the same litter who belongs to my mate is springer through and through. She is doing really well if you look at the thread "sprocker progress" theres a clip of her training.she has been a pleasure to train, got more grey hair though and less of it lol.She is very driven and is fearless in cover, she

    Male Harris

Be very carefull mate especially with males, because they can be tricky to enter they usually end up on the scrap heap by beginners in the first year with lots and lots of problems, some of which can be near imposible to fix, there are a lot of f**ed up birds out there.
  18. Had little Gaz out today at our once rabbit rich but mixy ravaged spot.We had been out about 25 mins when Gary stooped low on the fist opened his wings slightly and bobbed his head franticly, couldnt see anything but thought if he goes ill let him,a second later he was of twisting through the hawthorne and out of sight,i ran after him only to see him comming the other way in hot persuit off a cock pheasant. The bird made it to thick gorse and Gaz kicked up into a tree, literally two seconds later he stooped from the tree and buzzed the top of another cock birds head crouching in the grass it side

    now or never

Thats a fair old lump of meat in your hand there mate!.My male doent eat that a day lol, well done mate and i hope you both have many years happy hawking
  20. Let him catch what he can mate to get his confidence no matter what. They can be a bit fidly to get entered the males,if he is more interested in feather then let him at it and hopefully the confidence will flow and he will take anything.Feed him on rabbit carcases and drag a dead bunny for him to hit. Some males have an apparent dislike for fur though and will only take rabbit occasionaly if so nowt you can do
  21. Top banana mate, mine bound to a hare the other week during the day but couldnt hold it he is only 1.4
  22. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Gary nailed his first pheasant today,a young bird, but a pheasant none the less.I was after duck and moorhen when a young bird got up under my feet near the bank and Gary took it in flight after a short chase.Very happy but his weight is still too high, ive been flying him at 1.4 1/2 but i think 1.4 will see a more determined bird
