Great work and a lovely looking rifle, out of interest what sort of times are you out morning and evening to get the best chance of the rabbits being out. I have a chance to take a few out on this year's young cover crop but haven't had chance to get out yet and want to make it count when I do.

The missus was working a night shift on Wednesday so thought i'd ask the game keeper if it was ok to come up to his yard and have a look around for some rats and try out my new illuminator. He said it was fine and I arrived alittle early at around half 7 and went in for a chat. I asked him if, as it I was abit early, if it was ok for a mooch round the woods behind his house as I would love to have a crackat dropping a rabbit or a pigeon as I'd only shot rats so far. He agreed to let me go round and said I was free to have shot at what ever was out but to keep an eye out for Maggie's an

If you don't have a range finder you can also use things around you to help for instance in the pic you posted of "the range" down the right side you have a panel fence which I'd guess will have 6x6 panels in and from looking at the picture maybe the same panels again from what we can see to you. Call it 8 panels to be roughly in line with the orangy panel or shed in the middle of the pic (looks like that's were you target is set up. So if the above is correct 8 panels at 2yrd a panel plus abit for the posts and your probably around 17yrd. I know most of ouf shooting is in the open bu

Good choice, same spec as the Viper I'm using, no complaints so far.

From reading on a number of forums a lot of people rate the mamba lite for use with night vision. I have a viper and it works very well

Thanks guy, not been on the forum long and have learnt so much already! I'm well impressed with the set up even if I do say so myself just need to keep practicing. There was only one I couldn't find, I know i whacked it right between the eyes as it was face on to me but it still managed to jump down a run. Could the pellet have ricocheted off its head? Is it best to wait for them to turn and aim just below the ear and between the ear and the eye. ATB Matt

This is the second time ive been out this year, i went out saturday to a place were i knew there were some rats on the keepers property and shot two in the first hour, the keeper came back from being out foxing about 9.30pm and siad he seen 4 round the dog kennals near his house and could i go and have a look so, i went round and shot another 4. Any way last night had a spare bit of time so went to the same spot out side his house and put some nutella/penut butter/ oil mix bait down and waited. I would guess it would depend on the age if the camera but I would imagine the picture in the view finder would always stay the same as when your looking through it there would be no point holding the camera upside down in its orgional design. I

Thanks for all the advise guys, I'm the only one shooting there but there is the odd car about while I've been there so might try coming up abit later when the cars are all parked up. Also think ill have ago at shooting from.sticks as I've been sat in the van shooting out the window and I'm wondering of the light from the night vision is lighting up the inside.

Ive got a bit of land that i can shoot on and the keeper has said theres quite a few rats about. He's seen a few in the day time an theres also quite alot of droppings about aswell. I went up before christmas in the cold spell and got 6 in an hour from 7-8pm however i have been out twice now and baited the area up but i haven't even seen one. The keeper said they might have got used to me going up there but im shooting with night vision and have left it a week or so before going back. I was just wondering 7-8 was prehaps to early? Any advise would be appreciaited Matt

Great write up, thanks for posting.

Could be wrong but that link says may 2005 on it so I don't think we need to worry just yet. The problem still lies with the person committing the crime same as thieves you can only slow them down if they want to rob somthing they will, same with knives, taken them away and they will use somthing else.

I have one of these on my home made set up and you can see furthur around 85yrd I would say. Guess it depends in the camera abit too but for the money you could try it and sell it on. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/CCTV-Surveillance-850nm-120m-Day-and-Night-IR-LED-Array-Illuminator-Lighting-/110983825175?pt=UK_Gadgets&hash=item19d726c717
