    Well, the latest update - feeling a little dehydrated after the glorious weather here, I ventured out to ensure my fluid levels were healthy ( Bitter together with a number of large G & T's(only because the bitter ran out). On returning home and opening sitting room door, I'm met with a growling dog, with chops full of teeth...................................! SWMBO said 'she was protecting me, isn't she wonderful!'

    Strange that you should mention 'natural fighters', many years ago I knew a feared street fighter, I say a feared fighter but in a neutral environment he was one the nicest, calmest men I have ever met. He had a natural boxers movement in his upper body, an ability to feint and awareness of personal space. I followed him into a nightclub one evening, laughing a joking and on the other side of the door two bouncers were waiting for him.....they didn't have a chance, I was absolutely mesmerised by his movements....happy days..

    If I were you I would go for a weight 5 Rod 8.5ft long. This middleweight set up would cover your river fishing and also be man enough for most still water situations. To go heavy for example weight 7 or 8 would be too much for your river fishing. Longer rod gives better line control
