  1. whats the old rough dog X ?
  2. Exactly Cleanspade, courtesy of South Pembs Hunt
  3. plus owners of potential studs would probably want to see the bitch work, which means waiting till september now.
  4. how was rags sire bred? NS seemed to think he was the key to the early breeding he was used because he was a good dog of good type, he was not related to sadie. atb he certainly looks it (good type), nice pic of him and his brother in the book. you seen him go?

  6. im sure there'd be some excellent workers in there, but whether they would pass that on i don't know. people line breed for number of reasons size, temperament, working style, nose, coat etc etc - it being "a good worker" is a given - thats the minimum it has to be. the line breeding hopefully fixes the features you want. Glyn and DD have obviously had a lot of good terriers, but i'm sure there will be subtle little differences in what they want from the perfect terrier.
  7. when do you get to call a line your own? some people are very humble when acknowledging where they started (e.g DD) whilst others do couple breedings and it's "their stuff"
  8. He obviously hasn't watched Gennardy Golovkin lately Agree, should have happened 7-8 years ago. I can't see Manny winning, hard to imagine anyone hurting Mayweather let alone beating him, but time catches up with them all but I think it's affected Manny a lot more due to his style. Mayweather barely gets hit.
  9. Seen a fair few of their relations/ancestors work and all knew their job.
  10. id agree Neil that they have plenty of energy and like you i am only speaking from what i have seen, mine dont cope well early season - but it may be my conditioning.!! likewise a good wheaton x i saw collapsed @ work once and we had to dunk him in a cattle trough to bring him round!! a good friend has a 3/8 5/8 bull greyhound bitch that can cope with run after run after run on big land - the other difference is size, you rarely get huge wheaton x unless they have added other stuff in, not that size is what i am after personally i have noticed a trend of putting well tested bull g
  11. Spindolero so do you think a bull cross would on average would have more wind than a Wheaton cross? i would say a well conditioned pure bull would have more wind than a fit pure wheaton - thats your starting point. the running dogs you choose to use them on will have an affect but i would say the right bull lines would have the edge that said there are so many poor bull x out there now its difficult to sort out what's what.
  12. Allan I would say I have found with mine that they are prone to getting too hot which can be an issue, i don't think working wheatons need wind in the same way that a bull would - so stamina would be a difference. on the plus side, plenty of fire in a good wheaton, more than enough for hunting purposes, good coat, feet and as you would expect draw towards holes so handy for marking. i plan on sticking to the wheatonx but if i was hunting different land and maybe targetting more of a different quarry i would probably look at bullx
  13. I should maybe qualify that statement a bit more. They would be enough for 99% of people doing pest control. Appreciate even a great wheaton X isn't dog of choice for people running edible game on big land.
  14. As said before, the calibre of the dogs and the breeding will be the biggest factor. That said, my feeling is that the very best bull x lines will have the ability to perform better in terms of getting numbers with regularity. Go back to the root stock, the bull has been tested and bred selectively for decades in the most testing of situations. Not knocking the wheatonx, I keep them myself. And a great wheaton X would be more than enough dog for 99% of lurcher owners. (My average wheaton x is more than enough for me )
  15. Was Jack the one that had brightmore in his breeding?
  16. Look forward to seeing you there Co Chise, I'm sure you will enjoy it, people travel from all over UK and Ireland to attend, it's built a great reputation.
  17. Been asked to use the dog (on right) on a v useful bitch, fingers crossed it happens as first litter from him and my bitch has been good so far.
  18. something i have no experience in whatsoever, but maybe theyre good at working cover where there are dangerous animals lurking. coyote, wild boar, big cats etc def more powerful and robust than a less bully terrier. just not for the UK imo. Exactly if Europeans can use teckels ,fox terriers and patterdales, it can be done, when the settlers went over to America they had to hunt lion and bear with the little feist dogs and hounds. In the case of flushing a dangerous animal.from cover would it not be better to use a dog that doesn't want a mouth full or if getting a mouth full is what
  19. id guess thinking 2, 3 and 4 generations down the line, what y0u can breed to improve or maintain standards
