  1. Nice shot on that squizzer! Perfect pellet placement. Gotta respect you .22 guys. The damage a 22 does over a .177 is huge. Be interesting to see what the exit wound looks like by comparison to a 177. In theory the entrance wound should be similar, but the internal damage and exit should be massive with a 22 as its mass disperses its energy in to the target and not in its velocity.
  2. Ouch! then again, I bet it never even felt it! Great shooting mate. Tim
  3. Guys, Come on. Common sense needs to always apply. We are not talking about leaving a door open - its a RIFLE!!! If in doubt, its ALWAYS LOADED! Please.... This is a great little tip for those situations where you reload, perhaps thinking you needed a second shot to despatch, or indeed had another opportunity, didnt take the shot and then went back to stalking or waiting. An hour later, an opportutniy arises and you now know that you are loaded! There has been the odd occasion where I forgot and either dry fired or double loaded. Simon, if fitted properly, the cable ties are tig
  4. Hi All, I have been caught out a few times double loading my Daystate Mk4 as there is no way to know if I have a pellet in the breech. So, I made a really simple reminder that fits on my scope - two cable ties of different colours to indicate loaded or not. Every time I load a pellet, I twist the cable tie to RED. Take the shot. Twist to GREEN. Here are a couple of pics so you can see what I mean. Hope it helps someone with a similar problem. Tim
  5. Agreed with all the above. For hunting magnifications, your DOF at 8x or 10x is too great for accurate rangefinding using AO. Your best best if you want to use your scope to range is to learn the scope. You can use the mildots at a fixed mag to determine approx quarry size and therefore distance (bracketing). You can also get a rough idea based on using a fixed AO distance - say your zero. If the image is sharp, its crosshairs. Then depending on the amount of blur, you know how far away it is. These skills take time to practice, but work very well. It is what we use during HFT as the
  6. Hey Si, Off topic, but do you drive a SAAB? Went past one on the M6 a while back and I could have sworn the licence plate was ZINI! Tim
  7. Bladetec is not right for a Mora. Mora knives have a Scandi grind edge, so you ideally need a flatstone. A bladetec will give it a 20 or 30 degree bevel on the edge which will change the way the knife performs and how long the edge will last. These devices are good, but not suitable for every knife. Google Scandi grind and knife edges and you'll learn a lot about the options. I love my Mora - great knife and when sharp good for just about everything.
  8. I have a few Moras alongside other knives. Best low cost sharpener for a Mora I have found is a Fallkniven DC4 : http://www.heinnie.com/Sharpeners/Fallkniven-Sharpeners/DC3DC4-Whetstones/p-370-212-418/ Followed by a strop with a small amount of Autosol polishing compound from Halfords: http://www.heinnie.com/Sharpeners/Razor-Strop/p-370-8950/ Quick touch up now and again keeps it sharp enough to shave with. Great little knives. I also put an elastic band around the top to stop the knife sliding out of the sheath by accident and put a few around the sheath just in case, never c
  9. Toptastic. Piggin hate Maggies. Thing that makes me laugh about Corvids is that when you shoot one, all it's mates go nuts and pop by to take a look at their dead buddy and try to work out what killed it. The amount of times I have bagged a couple more before they figure out its time to scarper cracks me up! One less nest robber. Top job.
  10. Great vid. Shot 1 was a corker!
  11. Great shooting mate! Lovely day for it too!
  12. The General Licence is a touch ambiguous, but you can be sure you'll have the law, RSPCA, RSPB and every other agency on you like a ton of bricks. Not worth the grief mate. Best bet is to join the BASC and give them a call to check what the law says. They'll also back you up with legal protection. Tim
  13. Craig, If you have an iPhone you can download the Strelok app or Hawke Chairgun apps and they will tell you the holdover/under based on your angle of incline or decline once you put your rifle, pellet and zero details in. I used it to get to know the same when shooting crows out of trees. Getting perfect headshots from my fixed position at 45yds now. Winner! Tim
  14. Sorry to hear that mate. As a thought are there any good clubs near you? HFT is good fun too and my local club (Kibworth) runs a load of competitions - enough to keep me busy - Thursdays and Weekends - and are great shooting practice too. Perhaps there is a club nearby that can fill the gap? Tim
  15. Top work! New scope and happy Missus. A fine balancing game well played!
  16. Hi Miles, Appreciate I have never posted to you before, but I just wanted to say that I have read quite a few of your adventures with huge envy! So much so that I bought your book and cant put it down! Great stories brilliantly written! Thank you so much! I am massively jealous of your courage to leave the rat race behind and explore the World as it is naturally presented to us each day. You are an inspiration to everyone who loves the outdoors! Keep up the storytelling and best wishes to you and your family. Tim
  17. Got a pic of my target card somewhere - I'll try and dig it out. Fantastic shot BTW! Straight between the eyes! That is harder that a shot to the side of the head as the target is much smaller. Top shooting! Tim
  18. Great idea for a pellet but I found the groupings suck beyond 25yds in my MK4. Then again, they were .177.
  19. Hey Skot, Just picked up a 95 myself but hardly shot it yet. Previous owner swore by Daystate Li's, but they group like a shotgun! What pellets does yours like? Thanks Tim
  20. Great shooting! Gotta love the Airwolf MCT. Looks mean in tactical! Have you tried JSB's instead of the Li's? I found that the Exact 4.53's work best in my MK4. Never tried the Li's though... Tim
  21. I agree mate. Nature and wildlife is to be enjoyed, not decimated! I do believe in balance however and some species will dominate over others by breeding or predation which is why they need to be controlled eg, Muntjac Deer, Grey Squirrels, Magpies, Rabbits etc... If this is not the case however and they are not a nuisance or causing damage, I think we as hunters need to use common sense and leave them alone, even if they are on the general licence. Tim
  22. Hi mate, Let me know if you need a hand! Im just down the road in Northampton. Try Peanut Butter mixed with Nutella as bait. Spread it around so they cant run off with it and they'll stay still to lick it up while you pick them off. Do you shoot over at Kibworth? If not, you should pop by - its close to you in Market Harborough. Tim
