  1. Shooting press are full of rubbish. I cancelled my subscription to all magazines and dont read them anymore as every review is positive and tells you how its the best gun in the world and how they shot 10 pellets through a single hole at 300 yards with the new SMK Springer. Load of old tripe. These guys get paid by advertising and enjoy lots of corporate shooting days paid for by manufacturers. Free Press is an oxymoron. It aint free, its paid for and so are the reviews.
  2. Not my perm. Farm next door. I'm trying to get that land too as it goes on for miles. Some nice Rabbit and Pigeon shooting there! :-)
  3. Thanks guys. I prefer evenings too and this I find is the best time for Wabbits and lazy Woodies and Corvids. It was a beautiful morning this morning and I was obviously excited so could wait to go over and recce the perm. Didnt expect to get anything so two Corvids was a little taster. After about 5pm the place is full of them. Gonna go down around 7pm on Friday and report back. Tim
  4. JSB Exact 8.44gn in 4.53 for me. Work a treat. Happy to take up to 60yd shots with these. See here: http://www.thehuntinglife.com/forums/topic/325450-new-permission-story/ Tim
  5. Great gun, handles beautifully and is very accurate, but the stiff bolt is a known issue. It can be fixed, but from what I hear from my RFD, most of them have to be repaired. I took mine back and swapped it for a HW100. No complaints from me. One of my shooting buddies also bought a Huntsman and loves it! Get the bolt swapped and you'll be back in love.
  6. Yeah Home Brews are always better. Cant believe how much NiteSite and others charge when you can build your own in a couple of hours for £150 and get an easy 300yds.
  7. Hi Chaps, Not been on for a while as I was short on shooting perms, but picked up a new one yesterday! Its a sheep farm nearby that I have seen hundreds of Corvids on but never been able to catch the farmer. Anyway, popped by on the off chance yesterday and explained who I was. His response - shoot anything you like, but not the sheep! Happy Days. Went out at first light this morning to walk the boundary and get a feel for the opportunity. Loads of sheep. No bloody crows. Too early. Weather was perfect though - see pic below. Not a breath of wind. Did find lots of abandoned Rab
  8. Same as everyone else in my mk4. Okay up to 20yds, but groups were awful at anything else.
  9. Thanks guys. Ordered one from Ronnie's.
  10. Does anyone know if Camo-It are still in business? I have called multiple times, left voice messages and completed the enquiry form on the website, but I cant seem to get a response from them. Tim
  11. Napier cleaning kit. Comes with pull through, patches and cleaning fluid. Costs about £25. Felt pellets are useless. Done the same as you when testing pellets in my MK4 and the felt pellets ruined my testing as the barrel wasn't clean, I found that my MK4 loves a clean barrel, really tightens up the groups. Clean, shoot 20-30 to lead it up and groups are one hole out to 40yds with JSB Exacts 4.53's. Happy days. Really recommend the Napier kit, comes in a nice little case too. Tim
  12. Great shooting and great vid. Thanks for sharing. Tim
  13. As said, zero is zero. Won't change. Your Mildot values at other ranges will change depending on magnification however, makes sense as the size of your mil dots relative to target either increase or decrease depending on the mag, Tim

  16. Craig, try Amazon. Plenty on there too. Tim
  17. My old .22 used to love AA Fields. Single hole groups out to 50yds no problem. Wish I never sold that gun. That thing was surgical. Tim
  18. Blimey, some interesting calls here. Here is how I would quite happily spend your money for you :-) 1> HW100 2> Daystate Huntsman/Regal 3> AAS400 4> BSA R10 5> BSA Scorpion SE Tim
  19. Or pop down to the range at Kibworth and try a few guns out before you decide to purchase. The shop is well equipped with new and secondhand, the guys knowledgeable and friendly and they have two ranges (and a HFT course if you come on a comp day). Be careful though, they do get very busy - especially at weekends. Tim
  20. They are both good mate. best bet is to get to a shop and see which one you like the most! I like MTC scopes personally, but of the two, the Hawke is probably the better option. Now if you were comparing a Viper/Genesis or Connect, I would take the MTC. Tim
  21. Very different to a normal scope and the short eye relief takes a bit of getting used to, but once I got accustomed to it, I LOVE IT! I rotate the eye cup back and gently rest my eyebrow on it. Unlike a normal scope it is very easy to get a consistent head position every time. I currently have a Connect, Mamba and Viper and the Connect on my Mk4 is my favourite. Had Hawke before too, but I prefer MTC. The wide field of view is brilliant for hunting and HFT - easy to spot and maintain aim on quarry and identify wind direction at the same time as you can see so much more. Despite its sm
  22. I would say you've got options mate: For Sub 12ft/lb you need to get closer. Say < 50yds if you are a good shot, but the slightest variation in wind or weather temperature and air density is seriously going to affect POI. 1: Hide. Can you build a hide at 50yds or closer and become a sniper? Get in early and wait for your quarry. 2: FAC, but you'll need some decent power and dont go less than .22 as .177 becomes unstable over 18ft/lb 3: Rimfire 4: Claymores. Mine the area and blow the suckers up. Personally I like option 4, but would probably try option 1 first.
  23. Ive got one very similar made by Miltec. Size is perfect for a hunting bag. Its not 30L though. Maybe 22L. These actually look better than the one I have as they have a pull-strap over the top to pull the bag tight together and better shoulder straps. Look like a good buy for £14. Let us know how you get on and what the stitching quality is like as often its the stitching on the straps that fails on these. The inside isnt lined with a waterproof material on these either, so dont forget plastic bags for your quarry! Top tip. Cheers! Tim
  24. I always use the safety by habit on my Mk4. Its in such a good position that I flick it off with my thumb just before I take a shot and automatically back on again afterwards. That way I know my rifle is always safe and not going to discharge, loaded or not. Its a habit I got in to when shootng HFT. My rifle is always safe, even when not loaded. Always keeping it safe means that I personally couldn't use this as a loaded indicator, so I had to find another way - thus the cable ties. HW100/97/77 etc, etc... er...I have a Daystate Mk4. If I wanted another rifle I would buy one, but the MK4
  25. Nice work fella! Let me know if you ever need a shooting buddy as I'm only down the road and I hate rats! :-) Tim
