Il just try and get rid of the longest bits around her eyes and that and just try and thin it out with one of those combs, cheers for the advice everyone

SEVERAL HUNDRED!!! its about £5000 for the maximum amount they can stay up witch is about 4 hours, the police is an absolute f***ing joke they'd rather waste all our tax money on chasing us round fields and confiscating our dogs insted of investigating pedos and terrorists and buglars and rapists, in the last few years ive had the chopper out for lamping and then again for day coursing and then pulled for my air rifle and at first was told it was illegal because it was BOLT ACTION !!! before finally being let go after he was told over his radio that it was just an airgun and it was completely

Take them ratting a bit first to get them a bit more hard mouthed and used to things having a go back then gradually start by finding the smallest weakest looking foxs then build your dogs confidence and knowledge of what its dealing with and then move on from there. No good slipping a soft mouth lurcher used to retrieving rabbits live to hand into a big strong dog fox, all your dog will do is treat it the same as a rabbit pick it up barely squeezing and then WOLLOP the fox has turned in your dogs jaws and took his nose off or an eye out or one of his ears off ive heard of it happening, but yh

I don't think any torch will really be up to the job (not for lurchers anyway) would do for close range shots with airguns etc. definitely not on a long run or a misty night. ive always stuck to the lightforce 170 striker lamp you can also get the tracer 170 just a copy of the lightforce but a tenner cheaper.

No I find just start on something low and forgiving like a dry stone wall with grass either side or a wooden fence with nothing they can catch themselves on and simply climb over and walk away calling them eventually they get so panicky and frustrated that your leaving them it overcomes the fear of the actual jump and they just jump, simple. Its always worked for me but like I said make sure its something you know they can jump easily and no risk of injury and then let them get confident and gradually go higher and higher

Help Lurcher Pup Eating Rabbits
benchick replied to TheLurcherBoy's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
My mates dog was the exact same up until about 2 would retrieve live to hand and then all of a sudden he switched and would run it down catch it kill it and mantle it like a hawk and eat it always starting from the inside of the leg around the groin wether it be rabbit hare deer made no difference by the time You'd get to it it would be half eaten. He even fed him small amounts before running but it made no difference it wasnt that he was hungry just loved eating his kills. Been the same since -
Yeah she does look like around her eyes and mouth she could have a tint of liver in amongst the black

Ive got a 12 week old first x bedlington whippet and I she is still jet black with just a few grey hairs coming through and a white patches on her chest, neck and chin. I just wanted to know how long it usually takes for all the grey to come through or if she might stay black. The sire is a pure bedlington and like dark liver in colour and the dam is a pure whippet brindle in colour does this make any difference. Il try and get a pick up of her see what you think. Cheers ben

Yh the best busher ive ever seen work was a brittany she would smash through any cover without hesitation and go on all day long but obviously always needed the extra couple of lurchers when quarry was flushed. Obviously using a dedicated busher eg: spaniel or terrier type with a couple of lurchers outside is alot more affective But thats what I was thinking if I used a bedy whippet id only need 1 other lurcher to be on the outside as the beddy whip could get out of the cover and give chase across open ground aswell (if it sees it leave the cover of course).

Hello everyone does anyone use a first x beddy whippet for bushing rabbits? are they any good for it, will they face any cover to me it seems the perfect dog for it. At least on paper anyway, small enough to get in amongst it with a decent coat to handle the really dense stuff and then if successfully flushed into the open quick enough to catch it. Look foward to reading your comments. Cheers. Photos of anyones bedy whippets would be great too

Im not slagging of your method or anything and as long as you enjoy the way your dogs work thats the way it should be but to me it seems like all you doing is pointing not really bushing as such. Id say the most common way well at least for me is just 2 be in the field with the lurcher etc with the busher eg spaniel, terrier or what ever working the cover either flushing it out for the lurcher or snapping it up themselves.

Im always a bit sceptical as to why someone would sell a dog this young before its had chance to prove itself unless it has been spoiled and now there just fobbing it off on anyone (no im not saying you are but it is not uncommon). I just hope there is a GENUINE reason for the sale. Anyway good luck with the sale atb

Hot Weather And Thick Coated Dogs
benchick replied to low plains drifter's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
Exact same thing happened to my mates springer, just massively over heated I personally now only go out early morning and late afternoon especially with my bitches dense black coat -
What absolute bollocks some people chat, if you have a dog that bites all you do is make sure you dont give it the oppertunity to bite its as simple as that. It might make a great pet for an old couple with no grand kids as well as doubling up as a good little guard dog. There is nearly always an alternative to destroying a dog. Now the dog is known for being a biter it actually is probably less likely it will ever bite anyone because the right precautions should now be taken to ensure it doesnt get the chance to, but then again there is always human error!

Im thinking of getting the 12v 22ah deben lithium battery pack for use with my lightforce striker 170 for the last 4 years ive used the deben 12v 17ah lead acid battery. Does anyone use these, if so pros and cons compared to lead acid, I just want to know the real users opinions as I dont want to go wasting my money. Cheers I look foward to reading your veiws
