Just needed a few owners opinions, a friend of mine has a pure red nose pit nearly 4 years old proven stud nice and leggy and really well muscled and good strong head, all round cracking dog, i was thinking it could make a good first x if put over an ex track grey, just wanted to know if anyone has this x and what there like as in top speed, turn speed, height, temperament etc cheers

Get a tube heater costs a penny an hour in electric and make sure sleeping area is draft and damp free and make sure the sleeping area is big enough so the dog is comfortable but not so big that the area would be to big to keep warm, whippets do not do well in the cold but the best way to know if the kennel is suitable is if you imagine yourself sleeping in it if you think its warm and comfortable then so will even the thinest coated and skinny whippet. Dont listen to people who say being warm makes them soft thats bollocks being cold for to long will make them soft any important fat reserves

Bedlington X Whippet 1St Cross Anyone Have Any?
benchick replied to johnboynewt's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
Got a first x bitch sire was big strong working beddy dam was pure coursing whippet. Shes just turning 1 so not seen any real work yet shes been ferreting a few times watching and very very keen shes 18inch tts and nice dense coat on her, skin underneath is still like tissue though. Amazing nose on her and really starting to follow it well into the hedges but still fast enough for rabbits in the open and I swear ive never heard her bark since I got her at 10 weeks old and gets on with all other dogs ferrets the lot, overall Id say they are a perfect little rabbiting mans dog if I could id have -
Ive fed skinners ruff and ready it contains quite a bit of the museli type stuff in it , coats gleam on it and after one of my dogs was hit by a car and resting without any off the lead time it bumps the weight on too but even when working hard through the winter it keeps there weight up, only thing I dont like is its coated in a sort of syrup witch does seem a bit iffy but now I mix it in a big bin with 2 bags of CSJ champion to 1 bag of skinners works well for mine. Not massively expensive either at £22 per 15kg bag for skinners ruff and ready and £11 per 15kg bag of CSJ's.

West Country News Just Now .

Fair enough but neither do I vote but an opinion on all things is something were all entitled to, the reason there is voting in this country is because it makes the average man feel like he has a chance to change something and have a choice in how his country is governed making him feel like he lives in a free and equal opportunistic place when in actual fact your votes count for nothing the country is ran by who it is supposed to be ran by at that time. The British are naive people and believe literally everything the government tells them, free thinking people are discouraged and made to see -
only 1 mine pal me mates bringing other onOh well worth a try! Need a good smasher though, seriously if you do a repeat mating il give you a good price for a couple of bitch pups if those work out well for you.

Ive got a first x bedlington whippet bitch alot more terriery than whippet and at the moment she doesnt really get into any dense cover unless she sees it actually run in but thats probly because of being lurcher not full terrier but I should imagine a pure beddy would be more than happy to smash cover all day long. Amazing drives in em, the only problem you might have is finding one that is a true working type most have been diluted with show crap or lost entirely so if you do decide to get one have a proper look about first, also there coats obviously do alot of good for protection they do s

Anyone know the best day to go or is it same both days, im more into me lurchers and terriers, cheers -
I see what your saying about getting used too a different type of worker but from working the spaniels in cover id say they were the best dog for the job! BUT to be honest I prefer the short legged russell we use, just seems to work better along side the lurchers whereas I think spaniels work better on there own flushing to guns and such, by what you say teckels just seem even more appealing seems theres nothing they cant do, but above all really for me I need something that is just going to work the hedgerows and really dense cover flushing for the lurchers would you say it would be well sui

Alright everyone lately ive been having a bit of look around for a new bushing dog, the brittany spaniel we used to use is now retired and the jack russell terrier is 8 so in need of something new, from the title obviously im interested in teckels, dont really know anything about the breed so would be grateful if anyone has any info on working ability pros cons anything really. Are the pures any good or go for a spaniel or terrier x. Anyone know any breeders of working teckels or anyone breeding any decent xs. Pics would be good to if anyone has any, Cheers everyone

To put it bluntly SHIT well 90 percent are, much easier to go with something more conventional
-
Scruff of the neck and a good hard swing usually does the trick !, No seriously though just basic retrieve training with something like a dummy bunny (real fur is best) around hedgerows and gradually start throwing into light cover and build up to deeper more dense cover once she gets the idea eventually youll have a harder time keeping her out the bushes, most spaniels want to work cover anyway its just a matter of time before the drive kicks in.

At first look through the pics I thought that is either the shitest rabbit ever or those terriers got rockets in there ass, then I read on and you said myxi rabbit, great pics of some good looking dogs

I think the main reason some people dont like beddy whips especially first xs is because of useless show beddys and useless show whippets are being bred into the working stock and because people just dont use them properly, if you let them mature and train them well before any type of work they will be sound and of course dont try and compare it to a 25/26 inch lurcher were talking a dog that stands between 18 and 22 inches on average and weighs less than a fart its not going to be as fast as a greyhound and its not going to have the power of a pitbull but if you want a little rabbiter for sma

I would disagree when you say " A pure whippet would be alot better" for out and out speed of course a whippet is better but a proper working bedlington terrier adds a bit more than just coat they also add a strong mouth, stamina, bone strength overall hardiness and most of all a bit of fire in there bellys. Dont get me wrong Im a big fan of pure whippets and theres always good and bad in all types of dog but I wouldnt say either one was better than the other just different and which ever suits your needs.

Yeah collie x chiwawas might struggle ! This obviously isnt serious surely. My 3/4 grey 1/4 collie can catch rabbits at a jogging pace and she never has because of the ban ! :-s but could catch deer and hare aswell, given the right collie x I think they make pretty good allrounders.
-
Have never seen a dog try and herd prey but my 3/4 grey 1/4 collie will just trott wide of the beam on rabbits and come in from the side and just pick em off the squat but if there running as I put the lamp on she will act like any other cross and just run straight down the beam, and shes never just tried to course something without actually wanting it either, they've got more than enough kill in em
-
Only last season out on the lamp, in the same field sat right next to each other near the hedge row seen an all black and and an all white rabbit sat together, caught a couple of those with the white patches between there eyes aswell but saying that there is a few f****d up rabbits round here, caught a few with teeth about 4 inches long curling right out there mouths aswell.!
-
I like this a lot ! yh this is exactly what I had in mind, seems a really common x witch is a good sign I suppose i was pretty made up with the whippet as stud but just wanted to be completely certain and now i am so thank you all very much.
