  1. hi all, my little cocker is doing well in his training, he is nearly a year old now, sits to whistle voice and hand signal, heels well, hunts and retrieves very well too. recall all good. and so one..... i have notice when he flushes he dose give chase and he will ignore me when i try and stop him or recall him. (same with cats) he walks past them at heel gives them a good look ears prick up but stays at heel. however, while at heel or stay if another dog walks passed 8 times out of 10 he will stay but latly again, he will temtaion gets the better of him and he gose to play. and i fee
  2. hi sorry, didnt reply for a few days..... he is fine now however i am still resting him on day 2 he was back to norm.. but again still resting him

  5. hi wyeman, oh yes i think it will just be a couple 10 min walks on a lead till it improves. just let him out his kennel. he was using it a bit more walking round the garden, but looks like its herting him.
  6. agree with the above....... lots of praise and mybe let the dog walk at heel with the dummy in mouth and continue to praise.. mine use to respond better too, when i get down low when retieveing a dummy to me and kind of go all puppy minded and make a big fuss for keeping hold of the dummy.. best of luck
  7. i have just reread all i have put i hope hes pulled somthing and just overdone it..
  8. hi all , wondered if i could pick your brains.. i took my 9 month old working cocker for a walk yesterday, no longer than usual. he had a swim in the sea so now has the runs as normal after being in the sea.. but today i let im out and he is lame on his left hind leg. he puts weight on it every so often and did see him use it a few time walking round the garden. is this just a case of him over doing it yesterday and? as he does run round like a looney and does swim for england given the chanse. he is up to date with japs, wormer and frontline.. as it stands i will rest him
  9. hi skycat, thanks for the advice, and yes makes sense.i supose at the moment i would describe him as a naughty teenager.lol. i think i does look like i do need to rein myself in i do try to keep the training short and sweet and then let him loose to do want he wants on the way home, however i think if im being honest when he is doing well with what im doing 5 mins may turn into 20. so yeah i think i have to rein myself in too thanks for the advice.
  10. hi clare, yes agree with you, i think i only wanted to start heel now was because i was thinking if he gets the hang of that then other things may become easyer.. but i keep having a battle with myself on if i should be doing it a diffrent way..or just leave it till later on. and yes understand conpaered with a lab a cocker may stay close but not as close as a lab.
  11. hi all, thanks for the replys, all your comments make complete sense and i have taken them all onboard. i do already do a few of them (maybe not enough) having him sit and thow dummys out and around him and he does not move. he may have the odd flintch if i throw one a lil to close but geuraly he is ok with it, but i may carry this on as you have said. his hunting and entering cover is very good, indeed he knows there more things to find, and in long grass for example he quarters nicley, and on acashions may get to far in front but if i say for far he comes back close and carrys on
  12. hi,yeah video was when he was about 7 months, and is 9 months now. i didnt do to much with him i think i had been doing basics with him at about 6 monthsish. and took to it really well. i think thats the other thing i hear people say that they had there dog working at 11 months and panic thinking, god, im/hes not ready... so i do keep reaining myslef in too.
  13. Hi thanks for your reply, Hope you didn’t take me the wrong way. I completely agree with you. I have not and will not trained him so he is scared to death of doing anything wrong. i have been trying to do it along the lines of that “no that’s wrong” and repeat it until he does it right. In the same way you would do sit and stay.. I think now he knows the basics he is finding the harder things more tasking. Like last night while he is hunting around if I do the stop whistle he will sit and stay until I tell him what to do. But if I put a dummy out too and try to stop him he
  14. hi all. i have a 9month old cocker mostly trained... he has a very good ped, and both parents work too. he is good with basics 9 sit stay and directions by voice and whistle. and hunts and retrieve very well too. he showed no interest i heel work at all but after a week solid heel work he is now doing heel of the lead. its still early days with heel but work in progress as he dose try and run off every so often and he knows its wrong as he kind of role over to submit to me after. i have managed to intoduce a stopwhistle which he will do every time but as soon as a dumm

  19. wanted, rabbit long nets and poles, never used them before only purse nets, but have found the need for long nets this winter.. can any one help
  20. hi col c88.... yes thats was my plan too keep snaring for now to keep the owner happy. will wait to see if any one can tell me were i can get hold of long nets....
  21. thats the thing tho, you can only see a rabbit run were they come up from under the cabin, not the hole down to the warren... would you just let the ferret loose around the run and hope it finds its own way??? all i have is purse nets so would have to get long nets..never used one before..were can i get them from????plus it would have to be a good 100yrds to go round the thing it is sat next to a wall and you can just about walk down the side of it but not much space. i wouldnt try it till the young are older (i think) will contuine the snares till then..or should i??
  22. hi all was asked by one of my permissions on a campsite to help clear his rabbit population, so fine i had a look around and said yep will be great for the winter for the ferrets to work.. how ever he did show me an old portacabin 40ftLx20ftw and happens to have a warren under that too. you can not get under the thing you have a few runs from were they run in and out, which i have put snares on, as he wants them gone. he was asking if in the winter i can ferret it in the winter, but im not sure i think it would be a knight mare trying to get the ferret back even with a locator.and when you
  23. i to do feed 24/7 and raw meat evenings only while its hot to reduce the flys.. i have been watching mk 1 s on e*bay but they still go for around the 100 mark, if i was going to spend that much on a second hand finder that isnt made anymore then may be i should go for a mk3
  24. hi all, thanks for the replys, i do already feed raw meat. rabbit etc, was more wondering if to feed before they go out working for the day.. the nipping i have been handling every day and when she nips tell her off and keep stroking her , so she dosnt think if i nip i will be put down but this seems to make her worse.. i was told to do this by the breeder but think its a bit to organic and not working.. do the MK 1 finders still pin point or just lut you in the area??? cant make my mind up on which one... might go shoot some sqiurels to take my mind off it lol..
