  1. If you don't have the skill to shoot a recoiling rifle then a PCP would be best, but to suggest everyone should use a multi shot PCP for hunting is ridiculous.
  2. Thanks Si. I still need to find the best pellet for the barrel. I found out an interesting fact about Falcon Accuracy Plus. They are actually rebranded JSB Exact RS which aren't available in this country. The rifle seems to like them, they fly very fast as they are only 13.43 grains, and although they are light, they don't seem to be affected much by the wind.
  3. Yeah mate, I was shooting an "adults" springer at 11 years old.
  4. I know he said he didn't want a springer, but, £311 buys him a new HW97K from here http://www.sportsman...EIHRAUCH HW97K/ including postage
  5. Quick update. I went out on Saturday night and spent some time zeroing my rifle and getting some pellets through it. This is a 30 yard 6 shot group with Falcon Accuracy Plus measuring just under 2 cm's across (one flyer) after it had about a tin of pellets through it and before I'd mastered it. A 5p coin just covers it (not including the flyer). I was using a fixed mag x4 scope which made things slightly harder. I was pretty please because I've only been shooting about a month. Its now had nearly two tins of pellets through it and I have mastered the correct hold. I haven't
  6. Surely thats a good thing? Who wants a big fat reticle getting in the way of the site picture?
  7. I've got a Nite Eye, although not a digital one, I'm not impressed with it to be honest. I've got an el' cheapo fixed mag on my rifle at the minute, they only cost £30 and its bloody brilliant. Very bright, very clear, and nice and light.
  8. HW95K only weighs 7.4 lbs/3.4kg, I would have thought an 11 year old would be able to shoot that.
  9. Ahhh, this must be the pre-school thread.
  10. I will get some on here over the weekend mate, don't you worry. The Mrs is working tonight so I have to watch the kids, otherwise I would be out right now.
  11. I usually use x6 but I have a x4 fixed magnification scope on at the minute and its brilliant.
  12. I took the Pro Sport out again last night to my brothers permission. On arrival I checked my zero then spent the next hour or so shooting targets. I must have been having an off day the other day, either that or it was because the rifle was brand new, but last night I was managing pellet on pellet at 30 yards in an unsupported sitting position in moderate winds. My brother brought over an ill kit that he had picked up, the poor thing had very bad myxomatosis, it could hardly even stand up I decided the humane thing to do was put it out of its misery. The light started to fade we deci
  13. Thanks for your help everyone. I just put my brothers fixed mag scope on which is very light (a few hundred grams lighter than the Nite Eye) and had a few more shots in the garden, it seems to like being held nearer to the trigger than my HW97K and the lighter scope seems suits it better (for my anyway). Its only 15 yards or so but I managed to get pellet on pellet and shoot a fly. I'm using Air Arms Fields at the minute Jayjay, I've also got some Falcon Accuracy Plus to try out. I will be shooting it a bit more later so will let you know how I get on. Edit: Its a walnut st
  14. Thanks Si I planned to put two tins of pellets through it first like you said, then decide from there. I really hope I can get on with it as its a lovely rifle. My brother has first refusal if it doesn't work out for me, if he decides he doesn't want it you will be next in line and I will let you know before it goes up for sale. Hopefully it doesn't come to that though, I think I just need to be a bit patient and see how it goes.
  15. Went out last night to zero my new rifle and try to get the feel for it. First impressions are not bad, but not as good as I expected. Its very unforgiving to shoot, if you are remotely inconsistent with the hold the groups shift by roughly an inch over 25 metres, that never happened with my HW97K, you could pretty much hold that how you wanted and still get consistent groups. I should be out again tonight, I will try and get some photos to show you what I mean. Saying that though, I still managed one hole groups at 25 metres. So all in all I'm not too sure about it to be hones
  16. Thanks mate I'm really pleased with it
  17. You are definitely right there, my brother bought a .177 as a way of letting the family know he bats for the other team.
  18. Thanks Pianoman, I chose .22 in the end and I'm glad I did. I just got my head around posting photos, it seems that the forum doesn't like Flickr links. These are the photos I linked too on the last page that I took when I first got it home for the ones who missed them (plus I like them) Should be able to go and shoot some targets later to get a feel for it and get it zeroed correctly.
  19. I'm not sure about .20 being the best of both, more like a poor compromise. You pretty much get the trajectory of a .22, with less retained power. Have a look at the reticles, trajectory, and PBR below and you will see what I mean. I'm definitely glad I chose the Pro Sport in .22, its very nice to shoot.
  20. Saying that, I had an XS79 for a while and that was pretty good.
  21. You're right mate I shouldn't, I was just curious because I've seen a few runners over the past month shot with a .177.
  22. Thanks for the comments fellas. I will give them pellets a try Si, I think I might order a sample pack off of Ebay or something.
  23. In a word, no. Save up a bit more and find yourself a second hand springer from Weihracuh or Air Arms.
