  1. Thanks for your advice, this particular on eis in my local shop, only 5 mins away - so I may well take a look at it in the flesh. Thanks
  2. Thanks, so what is the name for the scopes that take up some of the light from the lamp? Thanks for Howa advice, price seemed good on that one. Is that scope any good though, or will it get knocked off-zero with the recoil?
  3. What are the opinions out there about this setup? Is the scope capable of dealing with the recoil - I don't want to be zeroing more than shooting. Illuminated Reticule is one that absorbs the light from a lamp right? http://www.guntrader.co.uk/Guns-For-Sale/Howa_Rifle_1500-COMBO-DEAL_For-Sale_120704152042001 Thanks
  4. I've just read somewhere online people adjusting the turrets for windage??
  5. My mistake, I have used scopes on my airguns, so know about zeroing etc. I also know about quarry respect and all that. So with a variable will I need to turn any knobs to know when my target will be in the centre of shot? I have a friend who will be my mentor also. Thanks
  6. Thanks, what do you think of the Ruger M77/17 - any opinion? How accurate? I dont want to spend thousands, so I saw this model, second hand, for sale, scope, silencer, sling for £500 - do you think its any good for that price? Thank you
  7. Hi, I'm just starting to gather advice about a scope for my 17hmr. I've not yet bought the 17hmr, but I'm already thinking what scope. I have it down for rabbits and fox, obviously fox is limited range. So I'd like a fixed scope I think, is it true that with a fixed scope that you dont need to fiddle with it to set your target. I'm thinking that centre is centre, (what I mean is the centre cross in the recictle) whether the distance is 50yd/75yd or even 100yd? is this true? Thanks
  8. Hi, to any of you who may or may not have read my other posts, you will know that I'm like a child in a toy shop at Christmas. The FEO has visited once, and he's coming back on Tuesday to pick up the paper work for the co-terminous, and then I hope I will have my FAC in the post. I put down for a 17hmr and 223 I have another post asking about which 17hmr etc, so here in this post I'm asking which 223. I have put it down for fox and rabbit - I know the ammo will be expensive for rabbiting, but IF I reload then I may be tempted to just plink a few. I have held and shot a friends
  9. Hi, I am awaiting the delivery of my FAC and I've been looking at guntrader and loads of forums. Obviously I know that I have to go to the shop etc and 'feel' the gun, but I've seen a Ruger for sale, and I like the way it looks. I like the shinyness of the barrel, how small the silencer is, and especially how beautiful the stock is. http://www.guntrader.co.uk/Guns-For-Sale/Ruger_Rifle_M7717_For-Sale_120917134835001 However I am a little dubious as to why it seems so cheap. Is it ok to buy a second hand 17hmr? Because its a Ruger make, does that mean it should only shoot Ruger a
  10. Many thanks, will keep reading and asking questions. Thanks
  11. Many Thanks again for great advice. My mentor does the whole reloading thing and has told me to come and have a look, but I just wanted to get my own angle on it first as I dont like hassling people. How much should I expect to pay for a 223 setup? Rifle, Scope, Sling, Mod? I really like the look of a Browning, synthetic, stainless, but do I really need to pay that much? One thing I dont like is the look of the shorter barrels Thanks again
  12. Thanks, will have a look on web to see if I find any decent guides. Richard Lee probably has the best would you say? Have watched a few youtube clips. It's all a bit confusing for me at the moment. I've not actually got a rifle yet, the FEO made his visit last night, and persuaded me to get a co-terminous, so he will call back on Monday to pick up all the paperwork and then he said it should take a month. So I'm going to shoot foxes mainly. Also getting a 17hmr for rabbits and fox. I shot a friends 223 and loved it, so I wanted one. The fiddle of reloading has got me tempted. S
  13. Many thanks for the good advice. Where will I find a decent manual? What is the cost of the kit needed? And how much do bullets/primers/powder cost? Thanks
  14. Hi, how much should I expect to shell out for the kit needed to reload my own 223 ammo. Is any of the kit considered a firearm, so would need to be declared on FAC? A guy I know says that he makes his own for £0.18p.................................although I haven't read this sort of evidence online. He uses hollow points for foxes. Thanks
  15. Had my FAC visit tonight, showed him the cabinet in utility room, told him the ammo safe was under a shelf in the kitchen, he didn't even take a look at it. Dyfed Powys Police
  16. BUT, why do you want one anyway? Just because it looks nice................ Is there no point? What do you suggest I go for, I have shot a couple of rounds from a 223 Browning. Anybody care to explain the difference between A-bolt and X-bolt in the Browning range? Thanks guys
  17. Hi, I've put in my FAC and got a visit tonight, he advised me to go co-terminous, so will do. This looks very promising to me getting a 17hmr am 223. I have looked at the Browning, could anyone clarify the difference between X-bolt and A-bolt?? I like the look of a Stainless barrel, but is it ideal when foxing with a lamp? Will the fox notice the whiteness of the barrel in the light? Many thanks
  18. Hi, am just about to apply for FAC and wondered if I need to buy a proper ammunition safe(£100+) or will a cheap (£40ish) one do from b&q or such places? Thanks
  19. Thanks for all the reply's I just don't want them to laugh at me for asking for a 223 if you guys think I don't need it, the the police will definately not allow it. The trouble I have is that we have long fields, maybe 350+ yards which stretch downwards, so a safe shot I would say?? Obviously I dont expect to shoot out this far, but hopefully would be able to kill foxes and rabbits at approx 200 yards after practicing. Would a 17hmr or 22rf be capable of this (or is it even likely that I will be capable of this?) You are all correct, I am under Dyfed-Powys Police Thanks again
  20. Hi, I am a newbie - a female member from West Wales............. I already have a Shotgun Certificate, and regularly use an air rifle - but the time has come for me to apply for a FAC. I want it because we have way too many rabbits on our land and we also have a fox that visits from time to time. The rabbits are too far away for my cheap airgun, and the shotgun makes too much of a mess of the meat, and the fox doesnt come close enough for the shotgun. So, the question is which rifles do I ask for? Basc have advised me that the common rifles that people ask for are the 17hmr and a 22l
