When i mentioned table scraps i meant meat/fish scraps :-)

Not sure where u get your info from but "raw meaty bones" as a diet (not to be confused with "recreational" bones or "BARF") is very rich in vitamins and minerals.
-
Where are the vitamins and minerals? Meat, fish, eggs, pork pies, table scraps? I honestly don't believe that as a carbohydrate source a decent complete is not a bad thing. I was feeding lamb, veg and brown rice (cooked) every morning and then raw meat and bones at night. But the veg and rice was coming straight through the same as it went in. I'm now feeding chicken wings or lamb ribs in a morning and then handful of complete supplemented with meat, offal, fish, eggs, tripe etc before bed. Also give a handful of complete in the afternoon if going lamping that night. Ga

My point was that the original op's dogs don't "need" biscuits if he/she is feeding good raw meaty bones/tripe. So my dog biscuit recipe is not for 'feeding' it was a quick, now-n-then way of using up meaty fats for a tasty treat, not a daily food.

kennel cough
Tania Welsh replied to Chelsie-leigh Leonard's topic in Working Dog Health & Training Talk
£75?????????? wtf!!! the nasal shot should only cost about £26 (not that its a cure mind you). One word of warning, benilyn cough mixture will help ease the uncomfortable gagging but won't cure the dog. If your dog is fit, young and healthy he will probably get through it after 3 weeks or so but could be very poorly. Don't overdo the benilyn. If your dog is not young, fit and otherwise healthy i would HIGHLY recommend you go to the vet as it could be fatal. I would however seriously question the £75 fee, that is absolutely outrageous!!! -
agree with hutch6, no cereals and no veg (unless it is absolutely pulped but what's the point?). Raw meaty bones are ideal (that includes fish) plus extras such as eggs (raw, scrambled), cottage cheese, pork pies, table scraps etc. Commercial 'Mixer' and 'kibble' should be avoided, do your dog a favour and don't be taken in by the advertising of these unhealthy products. If your absolutely set on giving your dog a biscuit then make your own - just add flour to any 'meat' fats from your cooking (sunday roast, fried sausages etc) until doughy then bung in the oven for 20mins, easy dog biscuits :

Dogs killing rabbits - am i in trouble?
Tania Welsh replied to Tania Welsh's topic in Working Dog Health & Training Talk
Thanks for this. I think i'm gonna write to my MP about the subject because the law is not aimed at the situation i'm describing and i want to be as clear as i can be. How many times have i been out a walk with my dogs and seen other dogs chasing n barking at seagulls on the beach, squirrels in the park, rabbits in the woods, pigeons in the park, ducks in the pond....it happens every day. These folk are not out hunting but no-one bats an eyelid at the dogs chasing and barking at these critters/vermin whatever u want to call them. My question is very specifically aimed at this situation shoul -

Woould also be interested to know if a 'pet' owner out on a walk has been prosecuted for this. I would hope as i previously said that common sense would prevail in law and realise that 'accidents' happen. -

You have no defense. You do not have permission to kill the rabbits in those areas. excellent - show me the section of law that says that cos that's precisely what i'm looking for, thanks! The law does not write down all variables. Quite simple really....you have to prove your innocence. You knowingly allow your uncontrolled dogs to be unleashed in areas you know they may chase and/or kill rabbits. It is against the law to kill rabbits in places you do not have permission to do so.....simples Spot on Moll. Basically, killing any animal with dogs is illegal in England and -

The cairn has caught 2...a couple o shakes and its good night rabbit! Yes i let them eat them, no point in wasting it but like i say, i'm not intentionally hunting so just wasn't sure on the law. A lot of dog walkers must find their dogs take off after a critter, FENTON anyone? lol. Just wanted to know the situation thats all. Cheers. -
Terrier bitch peeing...

what a shame. Spaying will have the opposite effect ie: in later life they lose bladder control so i would rule that out. As you say its only happening on some occassions, i would look at what the precise difference is in your approach - is it a certain item of clothing, a colour, a smell - there is something on those occassions that is triggering her fear response to what went on before - by association not memory - so try work it out what the association is and bingo! Good luck.
