  1. I've one jill I've had two years, another jill that's four months old. Plus an old vasactomised hob that someone gave me. A real motley crew....
  2. I'm afraid I'm stuck on this one, I've three ferrets in three hutches. If I put them on the lawn they fight and go their seperate ways. If I put two together in the hutches all hell breaks loose. When I've watched DVDS etc ferrets seem to live in harmony. How the hell do you do that.. I've looked on the Internet and it suggests introducing them in neutral ground, unless I buy another hutch that's impossible.. I'm sure there's a simple solution, I hope so anyway..
  3. Get your carry box and leave some of your clothes in as bedding. Mine came back two days after I lost her, just found her curled up in the box... I went looking every night as more chance of catching a glimpse of her eyes reflecting... Good luck Oli
  4. Get a jimney, I get 34 mpg and it goes any where as standard... Regards Oli
  5. Cheers will do, I'm going to paint the knocker box a bright colour so I don't loose it... Cheers Oli
  6. Could anyone do me a huge favour post a photo of the numbers on the depth wheel on an 8ft mk1 please. The stickers come off mine so no longer have the depth.. I know it's a crude measure but was really useful... Thanks Oli

    Lost Gos

I assume this is a wind up, no one would admit to this practice...
  9. RIP, JD is a reference to mine and many others child hood hero JOHN DARLING.. Many tips learnt from that man
  10. Pie-eater he's about three, I've aquired him of a family who no longer wanted him. They had him as a pet so it was a risk. Hes neutered as is his sister. Would be nice to get them both going on game, I've had ex pets before and they've worked well..
  11. Cheers gents, I hope all is not lost.. I will try him with my little expert little Jill once I've stuck him down some well populated holes to start with..
  12. I'm afraid you will have to forgive me for some ignorance, know there's huge amounts of talk about quality blood lines in working ferrets.. However I've always aquired ferrets from other people, ex pets or working ferrets no longer wanted and luckily they have all worked well, they largely been Jill's which might explain the luck. I've just been given a hob and taken him out, he doesn't seem to realise he's a ferret and had a look in a few holes to start with then soon lost interest. Any advice ? Should I feed him rabbit, not feed him before he goes out or try working him with Jil
  13. Advice required please... I have been offered a neutered hob by a friend of a friend. Initially I thought it would be ideal to bring my Jills out of season. However on reflection I assume it won't work as he will have had his testicles removed and as such won't mate them, I am guessing. Is it only vasectamised hobs that can bring Jill's out of season as they mate but fire blanks. Am I correct in assuming it won't be any use..
  14. After my first successful season with my male harris hawk I decided to get some professional photographs taken before the moult. The chap is based in the High Peak,Derbyshire. Though this is his first venture into photographing BOP he is happy to do it again. Ive posted a link for his web site and some photographs he took. I very happy with the results and well worth treating yourself too. You comments are welcome Http://markfollon.jalbum.net/hobb%20october%202013/ http://www.markfollon.com/ mark@markfollon.com Drop him a line if you would like him to work out a price
  15. Having a balanced opinion is not a bad thing, as usual it turns into a criticism rather than a discussion. Won't bother posting again
  16. Thanks for the replies, crow hawker I mean feeding off the glove as apposed to off the lure or off kills. Many articles including those by Martin Hollinshead suggest feeding anymore than the odd titbit has a negative affect on the bird. Doing jump ups seem a logical solution however will that not just reinforce the association of me being the provider of food and lead to screaming and bad habits.
  17. Please don't turn this into the usual bash the new boy. I have a mentor, I've read the books, I fly my harris every day. The weather reports for the next few days are horrific. I currently feed of the lure and want to avoid over feeding on the glove and issues that arise from feeding in the mews. Has anyone got any tricks they use, perhaps a shoot system into the mews. Just a few tips or tricks would be welcome Ta
  18. Don't suppose anyone's read falconry falconer by Richard Fitzgerald, looks any interesting read but can't find a review of it. Regards Oli

Great videos to watch while I'm manning my bird, cheers
  21. Ive bought a plastic transport box for my harris, I just wondered how long people leave their birds in them when traveling.Obviously the shorter the time the better. Plus In severe weather can a bird can come in doors and remain in the box overnight? Cheers
  22. Thanks for the offer, its not a place I go to often. But if no one local offers I will take you up on it. Regards Oli
  23. Hi, I have just been given two Jill's who are in season. I rang the vet and they wanted £76 each for an implant to bring them out of season. This seems a bit steep, just hope there's some one near glossop with a Vasectomised hob I could use please. I also drive through Derbyshire to Ripley most days if anyone's on route. Regards Oli
