  1. size maybe but there s plenty of big dogs be it black russell lakie fell etc if thats what your looking but if your line is lacking drive then it s not really breeding material the harm is done you cant polish a turd no matter how good your mr sheen is imo
  2. im not saying there s not some good jagd terriers that work to ground but there no better than a decent lakie russell or black dog as for high prey drive every decent dog that enters an earth and is willing too stay till job is done has high prey drive as some call it as for mosby trying to say that the terriers over here are tested less well the good dogs in good kennells work too ground all the time no bushing no hunting barn s just earth work thats were they show there true worth anda terrier that is not used to ground is either not up to scratch or there owner is not up too testing them t
  3. extreme prey drive ! would the word determination not suit better as in enough determination to stay with quarry untill dug which can be many hours and even days depending on were quarry is holed up or in some sad cases staying too it actually cost some dogs there lives ! i ve read these posts on the jagd terriers many times and heard lads call them hard dogs high prey drive wont back down well a good hard seasons digging they be like the rest of the hard dogs i ve seen either using there voice or standing out beside you after spewing. plus these dogs are bred from dogs that were originally br
  4. im not doubting that there are some good one s still left out there fat man and 300 euro is not a bad price for a working dog but surely you cannnot condone these clowns asking stupid prices for pups out of ratters in my opinion these people are in it more for the money than the actually working side of the breed at end of day its a bad terrier that wont kill a rat collies lurchers etc even excell at this type of work then on the other side of the coin you have the lads that breed and work there dogs proper be it russellls lakies black dogs etc they always have a decent worker in there yard an
  5. paying that sort of money for a border out of as someone says good bushing/ratting sire and just a ratting dam is laughable my god the good ol border is doomed in the future. if you s so called saviours of the border worked them proper breed out of tested bitches and shared the spare pups out among like minded lads it would suit a lot better also heard a so called border worker say on here on a diff post one time i paid so much money for the dam of the pups why should i give them away for free i need too get my money back the bitch had cost 400 he had 6 pup for sale at 450 each if i remember c
  6. because its a young dog fireman it gets the benifit of the doubt these are the lessons that shape every terrier they have too learn there trade same as everything else we once entered a very experienced bitch she was on in seconds was a 3 holed earth she was settled started too dig on break through big move bitch showed and was caught tried her back would nt go we were puzzled i said let her do her own thing dropped bitch she ran the hedge and re entered a diff earth sure enough our friend had bolted and went back to ground it was only then that we relised why the lurcher had took off even tho

  8. you dont need a hard dog for digging just a dog that will stay till dug well said brog too be honest a proper hard dog is limited give me a steady sounder that holds his ground and stays like the mother in law any day of the week this type is the one that is most difficult to breed
  9. 90 percent of hunting men weather be terriers lurchers hounds gundogs greyhounds etc are usually brought up with or around there choosen sport so are involved from a young age or they tagged along with a friendly neighbour etc that took them out and so through the years got too know other people involved and interested in hunting anybody now coming from the unknown looking too get involved with hunting is going too be veiwed with caution even if they are genuine may be diff were im from but if i was approached by say a young lad looking too tag along id know someone or a relation connectted to

  12. i ve had a good read at most of the posts on this thread and can see that the penny has dropped in everybodys head that the time too act is now but its a very difficult situation and as someone has already said its a minefield and with minefields they can blow up in your face very quickly leaving you in a bigger mess than what you started with. i think this needs someone who has been involved with teriers a very long time and who looks at this as a means too securing a future for working terriers in ireland for all and not as an ego trip thinking that they are the saviour of the working terri
