Sounds like you are just the right fella to give the dog a chance. Patience and a permanent home will probably be all it needs to be a fabulous worker. Can't believe that it has been given up on twice in such a short working life

Hunting MAMMALS with dogs is illegal unless described in the exceptions. Unless you put big ears and a fluffy tail on your boar and get the lurcher to bring it to hand whilst still alive, I can't see any loopholes

Having read the Dogs v Bitches post with interest, I realised that a common theme for the negatives were those common with unneutered animals. Does anyone out there work neutered hounds?

I'm not a "serious hunter" , for me the dog is a pet and companion first, so this may have an influence on my judgement and I am quite ready to be shot down by those that consider themselves to be hunting, coursing or lamping gods. That said I have had 10 years good service out of a dog that someone else abandoned because he wouldn't / couldn't hunt so you can make your own decisions... I would say that you need to take the time to have absolute confidence in your dog's obedience - this is a 2 way street, if you are anxious the dog will be too. If they are anxious the dog may not do anyt
