Being 11 days in I thought there may have been a few posts on here, as there is nothing I thought I would do one, nothing too exciting but an enjoyable evening. SS of this parish and I had an evening out on Friday we met up and agreed on a location as the woodland is a bit thick at the moment open fields would be better, I have a nice hedgerow its about 30ft wide and 3 fields long, after a quick chat I dropped Kev off at the top of the field and explained where I will be safe zones and the layout. I drove down and made my way towards him with a dog im training to locate and track deer. I

It might be the location so she is bored, if your doing retrieves non stop and in her back garden there is no fun. At 12 months she wants fun, a lot of animals are like this, a horse won't jump in it's field as well as a fresh one. Suggest you get some new dummies, get ones with fur on as well as some things from pet shops and bring a bit of play into it. Even in the house get a pair of socks and roll them about, spend some play time so bringing something to you is fun, one of the biggest mistakes is not letting a pup be a pup, if your after FTC then different form of training but as a

When you say top do you mean the tip or the base where it joins

If she, sits, stays, comes to the whistle, stays close to you then yes, if she doesn't do them all then work a bit more on them, there is no point throwing a dummy the dog runs to it and ignores it or doesn't bring it close because she will do these on the field, Then you shoot a rabbit and wonder why she does the same thing. But keep up the dummy training and start bringing in directional work, it's useful. Once a dog gets the feel for live game they sometimes go off dummy work, so that doesn't stay as training it's playing training, but be patient as you will find she runs past the dummy h

In reply slipper have you done all basic training cause it goes to rat shlt when you bring live game in? The issue with introducing a gun is that we humans can make dogs scared, we get worked up we use a start pistol and you look or make a reaction by making a fuss as a shot goes off so your highlighting the shot. Take the dog in a rabbit pen or in the field let them see rabbits chase them and general hunting and after a few good outings take the gun a let them hunt and shoot, they then connect hunt to chase to shoot to retrieve. But try to make the early shots kill, Some people like the

Let the dog decide, I've read a hundred times don't start a dog till it's 12 months but then I've heard kids do gcse at 15. However some kids do exams at 13 or 14 I took my dog hunting, as in chasing rabbits finding them and general playing then you shoot one as he chases it, he catches it and brings it back. By 12 months mine was fully trained, he loved pigeon shooting, So see what he does take him out on the rabbits don't make a big thing of the shooting, as in just do it let him connect gun shot rabbit retrieve. If you panic over a shot you will pass it down to the dog

Here ya gohttp://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2673694/Donations-fall-7m-RSPCA-gets-political-Charity-accused-betraying-core-support.html Last week there was about 8 of their vans at Cisswood Hotel a very posh and expensive hotel, there was either a big incident there or they were staying there for some sort of conference, many other places to stay a lot cheaper where they could have saved more

I play tug of war in a gentle way with mine, he loves it. We play we work and he is a reliable gun dog 2.5 yrs old a working machine whistle trained and will return a rabbit to hand or jump up and give it to me. I agree you should be careful but it's a great way to encourage a dog that doesn't retrieve that well. I just do it when I'm playing with him.

Sky is right bond and trust are important, tonight when I was in pet shop I bought some of those chews they look like a thick straw, my dog 2 yrs old was chewing One on the rug, I went down with my face close and bit the chew and had hold of it in my mouth he started to pull away whilst wagging his tail then we sort of played tuggy with it, then he let it go and started to lick my face laying on his back and playing. That's trust, bonding and respect. When you have that you can expand on it lose it and you have to work harder it can be done you've not done permanent damage you just

Who told you to scruff a pup

Thanks cc I spoke to many people but some of my land has open areas of 200 yds - 300 yds of open space and taking deer at 175 yds plus was always a gamble a nd although it paid off was hard work, I'm told the 6.5 will have that bit more of a kick at outer ranges. Today I bought a sako 6.5

Thanks Rich and excuse my ignorance but are they as good/ reliable as ones you buy?

I've heard a lot about home loads, but I have to be honest I've never tried it, I'm not stuck in my ways and always open to try (within reason) is it something I can pick up a book and learn or is it something I need to watch and learn.

Not confirmed yet as the dog was pre registered and transferred to the guy who sold it, but there is no information on the original owner which sounds stupid to me hence they are looking into it

There was a chip in it but was in the name of the guy who sold it, they have asked for the previous details, Seems strange lovely dog and all he wanted was an air gun for her

Well zeroed it in on wed and put a few shots inside 3 inch circle today went out again and fine tuned it, and it seemed to hold it's zero. On the way back down the drive I saw a fox with a rabbit in its mouth so I grabbed the gun, put the mod back on as I had taken it off leaned on fence post and I'm back on the books. So I've hopefully got it sorted but I've today submitted a variation with a mates advice for a 6.5 x 55 so in a month I will be on the market if anyone knows where there is one for sale. I maybe selling my Brno .222 to make room. Just goes to show your never too old to
