Thanks for the comments, didn't have as much luck tonight, went into a field this afternoon that had about in and I didn't shoot any. Had a main rd on one side a house the other and when I got there They were already in the field so couldn't get into position and was concerned I caused a panic over to the main road so I watched and walked.

For the past few years ive shot this land there is a silver birch tree which has a Y at the bottom so its always been perfect for shooting as you can see down a bank of about 75 yds then there is a line of trees and some bracken then a field about 200yds long and a wood. Ive often laid down against the tree and picked off deer in the valley below, but often lost a few as I couldn't shoot as they were in the field below the trees. So last year I put a high seat up in the line of trees. This morning was my first early morning outing, and on the way I was thinking do I use the high seat or t

Where To Buy Fully Trained Springer Spaniels
Philluk replied to dezyboy29's topic in Gundogs & Retrievers
That isn't a bad thing, but if you were to find someone on here local spend some time learning the basics, see what it's all about then if you go to gun dog classes you and the dog learn together. -
Where To Buy Fully Trained Springer Spaniels

Not sure there is such a thing as a good gun dog for sale, so it will be one that has issues. I'm sure there are people who part train and sell at huge cost, but you would be as well getting one and doing it yourself. Half of the fun of owning a dog is the bonding and trust and you can't replace that. I've had mine from 12 weeks and teaching him has been the bonding, it's like building your dog, it's made your way to your spec. A second hand dog will be nice but never the same bonding, and you will miss so much fun. -

One of the woods I have borders another wood I have, the woods are owned by different people and I shoot them both, ive often walked the wood in the summer and watched deer playing in the sun. The area has been cleared for telegraph poles to run through both woods, so its a long open ride that you can see for 500 yds. I walked the top wood and after walking round there was nothing in there. so i thought i had time to walk back to the car and go to another wood a few hundred yards down the road. Having my dog close to me for what was well over 2 hours i let him run as we walked back to the c

Well I have an interesting update on this, after the gun went in and came out with a small error I set it up again and left it 24 hrs later I went back to a field and at 100 yds I had a 2 ft sq target and the first shot didn't even hit the target. At 50 yds it was firing high so I broght it down by over a foot. The second shot was a bit low so raised it slightly expecting it to be about right I went back to 100 yds and it hit high and right. Where did the right error come from? I left it a further 24 hrs and went straight for the 100yds and the first shot was high, the second shot was h

When I was in hunt service I kept a button off my scarlet coat, as I moved about I kept one off each coat, as I got to know other hunt staff I would try and get one, so when I left hunting I had loads of them, then out of bordem one day I sowed them all on to a hunt tie thinking it would look cool, I ruined a very good bfs tie and it looked stupid But hey ho each to their own.

Casso ive read before how you do that but couple of thoughts, is this not excitement and to take away the excitement could take away the keenness to hunt out? also my WCS is currently under training for deer tracking by me and he is coming on well, he has found a few now like he has seen me hide them, is there a way I can teach him to bark on locating it that way I can give him freedom in thicker cover. he is 3 yrs cheers phill

Having used this for about a year with some good results I've just upgraded to a newer one with a greater distance, i'm not sure the new one is as good as this one sound wise but I need the extra distance, and I can add my own sounds so I will be looking for some of the sounds the same as the spitfire has, this one works up to 75 yds where as the new one does 200yds which is good for me in certain areas. Anyway this is in good condition and I would like £100 + postage at cost. pickup from West Sussex or posted shouldn't be a lot as its about a kg all in. PM if interested

That's usually caused by loss in confidence someone shouting when she didn't do it right, so she not sure what to do, If it was me I would play a few games and ignore retrieving get a dummy throw it send her and run around a bit, let her carry it when she drops it run and kick it let her carry it but in this game do not take it off her let her keep it. When she comes back make a fuss but don't touch it, then when she drops it kick it again. What this does it puts fun back you can even do it in the house let her establish a it's mine. Then after a week or so then and only then ta

What are you using as a dummy?

Some good advice there, see the good stuff comes out of West Sussex I agree treat based training is a big no no, again my opinion as your giving the dog a choice not a command and the problem is with a reward is when something better comes up in other woods the dog comes back to you for a biscuit or he stays and enjoys the smell of the rabbit. But he can get a biscuit anytime. I use treats for fun training in the house I point my hand like a gun say bang dog falls and lays on his back, I taught that in an hour with a sausage as a reward. All retrieves are done with the fact he

The issue about a garden is it's her space, you can play there but you won't get full concentration so your better off going to a mutual park. You need to structure your time so if your out for 30 mins which in fairness isn't very long you need to take out some dedicated training time. I take it the basic commands are mastered and if you throw a retrieve blind you can send her and stop her on whistle at say 50 ft. And send her back to get it. If you haven't got this mastered that is what you need to work on. If you cover her face and throw it say behind you can you send her in the rig

I think your doing too much too quick and expecting too much too quick. Master one thing at a time and move on. If you've not mastered a good retrieve why are you doing 2? Let's do one thing at a time, the dropping on retrieve try and encourage her to jump up to you that will keep it in her mouth longer then you can do other bits.
