When i was at the Warwickshire they had a guy who spent a year in Kennels learning the basics of the kennels, he was treated like a posh kennelman, his name was James and was only later i learned it was James Berkley, not sure as i dont follow hunting now, but he was a huntsman a few years ago. Then you get the ttwat Jeremy Whaley he was an amateur Huntsman (where is he now the useless fcker) he used to go home from cubbing and put on his computer where he found foxes and on hunt days he would do a print out where to find a fox, it was almost funny watching him he didnt have a clue what

I agree there is still some good huntsmen out there, not enough in my book and some who have been doing it a long time, I was second whip at a well known pack and the first whip then is now a huntsman still some 20 plus yrs later. Your story of a fox in a drain reminded me of a situation I was watching when visiting a neighbouring pack, in the southern half of UK, the hunt put a fox in a drain, it was running water, the young lad who was doing the terriers was gonna put his dog in, they netted the down drain and an older guy who used to do terriers said never put your dog in a drain lad where

I agree there fb but when you learn from a experienced person you learn tricks, i spent many year learning to dig foxes and did it professional for 3 seasons for the warwickshire i was under a guy called Slim, his real name was Graham farmer from kent way, not a popular guy but my god he knew his stuff, ive seen people do it today making noise pocking torches down holes and think what the hell are they doing.

I'm not sure anyone would do the job just as its a job, amatures have proved their worth over the years, or some have but I can service a car but I'm no where near as good as someone who has been taught.

as i said im not saying today isnt hard, but on a good scenting day you dont need a huntsman, there is a difference between a huntsman and a showman, a good huntsman only needs 1 fox and a good showman doesnt need a fox. conditions have always been hard and antis have always been about, yes the monitoring is hard but some huntsmen's lack of experience doesnt help here, when i was at the Albrighton i spent many day as a whip turning and or stopping hounds from going to antis and the huntsman screaming at me as they were going roundme, then i moved and the new huntman far more experience,

True about Wallace, but if you were in the in club it was ok, fortunately I was, never applied for any jobs got them all through word of mouth. It is what happened then. I got one job and didn't even know where I was going, I was a terrierman and the huntsman said to me to stay one more season and he would get me one of the best whips jobs going and he did.

I don't come on here very often so I'm not up to date with it, I did read the article some of what he said didn't ring true, dragging a fox letting hounds bite it, then let it go no way that can happen hanging from a tree, yes you could do that, why would you? The only person who would instigate that would be the huntsman that was him. Masters wouldn't tell him, so off his own back he did these things. Well that's not hunting or what happens in hunting but if he decided to do it that's his choice it's his back. That's a simple question I would ask him it's not like he was ordered to do s

If your young do it, I left school and went into hunt service, terrier man, then whip then huntsman and it's fantastic, it's a good job when your young but 6 hrs on a horse 4 days a week does have an impact on your body as you get older. Give it a go best days of my life, also the poorest

No i went one better, he tried to open it and got the locks at the side open i presume to take the card out and the next day it rained, i put his picture on a local facebook page and asked if anyone knew him, had several people and one with an address so i put some pics on my phone and went round saw his parents and explained and that i was going to get a new camera as rain got in and he could pay for it, i left my card and he emailed me a few days later to say he was in the wood but didnt touch the camera so i sent him a few snippets of the video and he paid up.

if you send me your address Owen i will send you some of these in green, they would look nice on your sticks.

I had one of the boxes you buy and they are not strong they are sort of tin with a wire on them that would be cut through using a good pair of wire cutters. i moved mine today and made another one, got a cracking video of someone trying to break into it. For 5 mins he was bending twisting and tried to open it to take card out, the thick fecker filmed himself doing it. now its in a new place to see who walks past

AI something like that mate. Have you got any pics please ? It wont stop some sort of tooled up super thief but its going to stop a walker trying their luck you would need to be well tooled up to get this one, i put it round trees which are about 3ft diamater. i ratchet the box to a tree and wrap the chain around as many trees as i can its about 10ft long. the picture was taken just before i finished it, so i put a dot where i drill a hole for the padlock, you slide out the T bar at the top out put camera in push T bar back in and put a padlock on the chain and the T bar at the top.

I had one stolen a few weeks ago, so a length of angle cut into 4 lengths welded together bolt along the top big padlock. With a chain bolted inside , bit of black paint a large tree and I'm well away. Put the camara in push the bolt through and wrap a padlock around the tree and lock them together. In fact I made a bit of money out of one.

How is someone going to test what a good deer dog does, this is my point about a lot of things who tests the testers, its no good saying we have some deer blood or a piece of skin and will lay trail, the end result has to be the animal is located, i take my dog to where i last saw it and let him go and sit back and wait for the barking, it can seconds or minutes if he was to come across a bit of skin he wont take any notice, its not a game and he does not want bits of skin. so is that a bad thing? so really to test my dog you need to wound a deer and he will find it, or will i have to re

Put a post on here -
if you say on one hand everyone should have a dog and its irisponcible not to have one, then say if you don't have one these people will come out and find it for you. Then in essence everyone has access to a deer dog. End of subject

Philluk replied to Philluk's topic in Deer Stalking & Management
after 79 views i was hoping a few more would comment before i gave the reply, http://www.food.gov.uk/sites/default/files/multimedia/pdfs/guidance/wild-game-guide.pdf page 8 gives a graph that says many sections 1 is if you shoot for your own consumption you dont need to be. 2, if you supply to the final consumer etc. its section 3 that get to those who shoot and sell to game dealers it says and i copy> 3. I didnt train him using blood or any scents, but then i didnt train him to find pheasants, my background is a huntsman and as such to train hounds you took them hunting and let them see what was going on, i took him on a shoot as a young dog, i didnt expect anything and didnt ask anything i let him do what he wanted close to me, if he went in he went in if he didnt it didnt matter. i encouraged him to do it thats all. when im in a high seat he sits there i shoot a deer and he was there, if a deer is out of site from him i will leave him and go and drag it and hide it, then i would take him t

I have a working cocker, on a shoot he is a work horse and well known for it, he will flush pheasants and retrieve really well, he will work blind and to the whistle, he goes rabbiting with me and flushes rabbits and when im on the deer he will sit and the bottom of the high seat for hours and when needed ive trained him off lead to follow and bark at the deer, no i havent trained him he has learnt and ive guided his natural instinct, he is coming but not 100% yet i would say 70% there, ive had a couple that he has found and just barks away at them. Ive also had some head shot in long grass an

Yep I agree, it was a good post and his opinion that everyone should take a dog, there was no need for the last statement to end in the way it did.

Well that makes me the worst kind of arsehole. LOL f**k you... And the OP asked wondered why the previous post was removed. This is the trouble and i said in my post that was removed this should be treated like a pub, now if john is in the pub and he is an @rsehole you dont talk to him. if john shoots and constantly misses and makes a mess there are things you can do. If Bob is in the pub and tells a story of how he did this or that then surely in chat you would say well if you did this or that you may find the outcome is better. If you saw a guy in the pub and i stigmatize h
