Well there are so many errors above I'm not surprised, Whoever said you can't teach an old dog new tricks was also talking out of his @rse, there is no such thing as you put it your dog might be a little to old..... Nope dogs will always learn its the humans that need training more than dogs

Couple of tips when she comes in at this stage don't use sit this is an automatic distraction and she will drop the dummy, get the retrieve right then add. She is turning her head because you are concentrating on the dummy not the retrieve, when she comes in make a fuss a little scratch and good girl then take the dummy, so your making the dummy second then she will be pleased to come in.
-
Guys be clear that when you use a dummy as "play" ie you throw it near and encourage the retrieve its fine with a puppy but as the dog matures the play must stop, dogs will learn that if they bring it back and drop it 2 ft from you, you then kick it or throw a short distance and wait for the retrieve to hand and praise and stop that exercise. The dog will learn if I take it back I get praise, if I drop it I get play and play is more fun. There is a thin line between play and training, and pup and mature dog. Getting that bit right is a hard call but the right one to be a little harder,

You will only get out what you put in, don't over do it and don't throw too many times, also remember every time you throw out of 10 throws you must go 3 times and collect the retrieve its teaching your dog it's not her right to retrieve you only retrieve when I tell you. Usual rule is 10 min max twice daily, no more and vary it, the important thing is to remember get each bit right before you move on. And always finish on a positive bit

Common problem when not following the pattern. If you go back through this forum there will be hundreds of posts about people with dogs that do certain issues and 90% all go back to the same problem and the words master one section before moving on to the next. You could have 2 issues one the dog knows you will take the prize away, or he wants you to go to him so its a bit of a game. If you have done all the training and went on to live game a bit early dummies maybe a problem now, if she will use dummies then go back a few stages to start with throw the dummy and send her, as she come

couple of points to add: im not in favour of using a lead as a windmill or to punish the dog, because then the lead becomes a weapon and not one of walking time. also try walking with your dog in a line and every 15 paces do a U turn or a 360 deg turn turn into the dog and away from the dog and gently push him with your foot if you are turning into the dog. nothing wrong with tugging on the lead in a firm manner but every time you do so don't pull it up, pull it to the right side, and use the word "heel" as you pull.

I have an idea! buy a load of deer and tie a yellow ribbon around the head of them all and let them go. if anyone on here sees a deer with a yellow ribbon around its head we wont shoot it. Hows that??

sorry guys been away boating for a while and have missed this. Hate to throw a spanner but last season 1st Aug 2012 - 1st Aug 2013 I had 98 mainly fallow, but then we have a lot around here, 1st Aug 2013 to date - f**k all. yes ive been out and yes ive seen 50 and 60 grazing on fields I shoot but the gun hasn't seen daylight yet. over the years I had to rely on a book to log them now its a phone and its easy, I have pics all different times and dates and the phone gets cleared each yr and all pics put on a file on pc. last year I had no need for a deer dog as all shots hit the target, I

I think if I go by memory whilst you can keep them as farming purposes that is a good way of claiming a tax break, you cant put enclosed land up for shooting commercially

As often as you can even play is training. But as said twice a day

Interesting topic to read back and proves there are some lessons to be learnt, why would you take a dog shooting within days of getting it? Nervy dogs why is it nervy, it runs off when it comes back it's slinky, why it knows it's done wrong, what should the reaction be to a dog that has come back?? Im going to look at a racehorse tomorrow it's entered in a race on Saturday- would I race it? Or would I get to know it,? Know what it can do, know how fit it is, know it not gonna throw its rider. Who said there is no such thing as a bad dog on here? Correct, dogs are what we make them

Philluk replied to Philluk's topic in Deer Stalking & Management

Would You Pay £200 For Your Gun Licence?
Philluk replied to Philluk's topic in Deer Stalking & Management
I would like a few laws tightened . At the moment you can get a deer rifle even if you don't have any permissions you pay per day. If you want to shoot deer you need the mentor bit you mentioned, but if you say you want to shoot foxes you can get a 243 once you have the gun you can shoot deer albeit not legal but who ever checks. Shotguns I've got 10 11 12 I don't know there a whole cabinet or 2 full of em do I need them all? No but I can. Have I been asked why I need so many? No if I had a reason then fair enough one I bought when I was 14 a single barrel biakel, 40 + yrs ago ain -
Would You Pay £200 For Your Gun Licence?
Philluk replied to Philluk's topic in Deer Stalking & Management
They say it costs £200 to process an application. At the current cost of £50 is a quarter of the actual cost and the police have asked the treasury to make up the shortfall not the other way round. At the moment it omens out of their budget What if during these cut backs they cut back on numbers in firearm departments and or firearm officers, here in west Sussex we have 2 officers and in nov 2010 there were 26k licenses that's a he'll of a workload. Times to renew get longer times to get variations get longer. I hope they don't put fees up but if they do let's hope the money is put t -
Would You Pay £200 For Your Gun Licence?
Philluk replied to Philluk's topic in Deer Stalking & Management
And your welcome to it but ive not said that, don't make something of it, I'm saying that I would like to see improvements in the ways the licence is processed and laws tightened, and if we have to pay a few extra pounds to do this then so be it. We have a responsibility as gun owners to ensure security and safety and that does have a cost. But the main point is that it's not a tax it's a licence it's a fee that we pay to hold our guns and the extra cost makes these improvements better then it's worth it. -
Would You Pay £200 For Your Gun Licence?
Philluk replied to Philluk's topic in Deer Stalking & Management
Aye exactly if youve got plenty money you wont give a shit....what happens to the folk who dont have that kind of money (me) to be throwing about though and need the guns alot more than some stalker firing a few rounds every year? Infact its not the money issue its the principal of an organisation that just decides "f**k it" were putting it up, take it or leave it. Greed!!! its not about the money its what you get for your money, and guns need to be in the right hands, and they need to be in hands of someone who is going to use them safely and store them safely and look after them. it do -

you can tell the Scottish ones on here. if it went up its gonna cost £40 a year whats that ten pence a day? if they did away with 2 forms for those of us who have a sgc and fac and made one and did the application online some have I know, and made life quicker it would be well worth it. what do I mean quicker/ easier as some of you know I have had a gun break and it looks like its on its way back, but im fortunate that I have 2 x .22 guns as I have farmers who's land I shoot deer to keep rabbits down and I have to go out 2 - 3 times a week to be on top of this. If my only gun was out the
