  1. They went cheap! But I could see how they may be left overs, I have got fur tree branchs stacked up in places but maybe that's not enough? Could it help if I took them into a barn for abit to see if they pick up? Maybe dose them up as well? If so what's the best stuff 2 get?

Hay guys so I've just been out 2 check the birds, no more dead 1s had a good look around for any signs droppings and everything seems fine but there are 4 there that are just sitting around with there fethers puffed and there necks sunk in? Not a good sign? The rest are running round and scatty like I would expect!
  3. I've had them just over a week, and yer afew of them had feather loss when they came in, the pen is about 17feet by about 35feet, it was an old polly tunnel I have converted, about 3quarters of it is covered in netting and the rest is is closed in for a shelter,
  4. Not 100% sure but the droppings seem ok? Birds didn't seem that bad, missing some feathers but that's it I think?I still have the dead birds so will check for sure tomarrow, but they seemed ok I didn't notice anything strange,
  5. They came 2 me from a mate of mine I am led to beleave they came from a farm that rears about 10k of them? So I suspect they were barn reared? I couldn't find any marks on them eg bite or peck marks, some of the bodys were out side in the run and some were in the half I have covered in, I don't no what age they are just came to me as poults and the farm was shipping out all there orders, the rest of them seem fine like normal, and they all seemed fine over the past few days, sorry about the lack of knolage about the birds,

Hay guys, I need abit of advise I am trying to bring on some pheasants this year for abit of a change, I've reared 100s of ducks in the past, I have of them in pretty big release pen with a sheltered area, but 2day I have lost 10 birds and I can't work out why? We have had a few bad thunder storms 2day could this have coused it or would it be somthing else? Thanks

I'm looking to breed from her with a mates dog, I missed the start of her season as I was away so I'm not sure of the date somtime around the 9th well that's when I spotted it, so could be a few days before, I have an old dog who has been cut and he is hanging around all the time, I'm just trying to work out the best time to take her to my mates for a few days? As she isn't showing any intrest atm,
  8. Hay just a quick 1, when a bitch comes into heat will a dog pick up on it right away? or if not at what day into the cycle will he start to take notice? Thanks

  12. Sorry to hijack abit but is this the same with all lurchers? Or jus the ones with bull in them? I'm only asking as I'm looking for a lurcher now and I was going to kennel it with my terrier, thanks and sorry for hijacking.
  13. Hay, just thinking I could offer abit of a trade? My old man owns a farm, if someone would be willing to let me tag along with them then I would be more then happy to let them come over and have a hunt around!!! I can't say we would find 100s but there is a fair few and I no of some biggish rat holes so could have abit of fun non of the rat hot spots have been touched as I don't wonna waste them on my inexperienced dog, let me no if your intrested? I no its not much to offer but its somthing..

  16. Hay guys just thought id fill you in on the training! After alot of work he finaly pinned his fist rabbit!! After along chase he nailed it!, hes starting to build his confidence with bushing and starting to work them after abit of encouragement, i havnt tryed him with rats yet as im still looking for a team of ratters to go out with! Cheers for all the advice its been a great help!!!

Its intresting to see the conflicking arguments/veiws people have, makes me wonder about the trouble people must have when they are out in the field hunting/ratting when they come up against people/police that don't understand what your doing, I always listen to what people have to say as I feel it may if not now help me in the future. Also topper do u go ratting? As it says you r from somerset and I'm from somerset as well and I'm finding it hard to find people to go ratting with cheers,

Ok I will try this as there is sheeting laying near his chicken sheds were they took a barn down, I will put some corn down as I'm sure there is rats in with the chickens, and I no he will miss more then he catchs to start with but I will be happy that he learning to hunt them!   19. Is it? O I didn't relise! Ok I won't do that! My dad owns a big farm as I have yer I have permisson, but we don't see that many rats? Also I don't know any ratting teams in my area to take him out with.
  20. This isn't lamping rats as such just taking him out for abit of fun for me and to build his confidence abit more? I have taken him to a few of our chicken sheds at night with the lamp but the rats moved quiker then he could see them it think haha,

Ok cool, I have taken him out a couple times at night under a lamp and this has made him start using his nose and sort of sent tracking as he follows lines, he seems to be using his nose abit more now when we are out, is it ok to take him out at night or could it confuse him when I try to work him in the day time? Also should I be trying to get him excited when he's hunting? If so what's the best way 2 do it? Cheers for the help so far! I have been setting traps 2 try and catch a live rat or 2! Is it a good idea to let him see a rat in the trap at first to get him used to what he's ment to be

Hay guys, I don't no if he is from a working strain as I took him in as an unwonted pet, he is starting to use his nose since I've taken the springer out as well but when he comes up against rabbits he shows no intrest? I've got a few live traps set to try and catch a rat, to bring him on properly would it be best to try and find a pack of ratters for him to run with?
  23. Hello guys and gals,I need abit of advice, I have a 7month old Jack russel terrier cross that I'm trying to train to hunt rats and rabbits. However he dosnt seem to have any intrest in hunting? I no he is young but he doent seem to show any instint is there anyway I can help him find it? I don't really have any chance to take him out with other terriers, but he does go out with my springers when they hunt, should he be showing some intrest by now? How can't I get him hunting? Any help would be great thanks martyn,
