  1. This is a vary interesting read love hear about the old ways ,we had coal mines out by where i used to live .

  7. Most of the old carbon steel butcher knives are good an if yah find some thing thats a bit big for what yah need you can cut em down an even reprofile the blade entirely if yah want can't beat an good old carbon ssteel butcher knife imo.an often you can find em real reasonable cost .
  8. If i might add yah can provably drill an run some stainless rods down through the forks as an added safety i've heard of it being done befor .

  10. Get yah some various rasps round half round ,flat etc an shape those forks the way you want em ,one reason to cut a bit larger forks as they lend them selves to more customising finger grooves etc.
  11. Sorry about yer mate bud hope he did'nt get scared off ,never tried the quick change style forks ,but i like to use looped tubes that are fastened to the forks with a section of rubber band or thera band they seem to work well an the dont shift around if you fix em on right .

Yeah i really like hawthorne me self for catty forks an walking sticks even like to cut most woods rather larger all the way around an then you can sorta contour the grip etc to fit your hand an shooting style exactly ,seen a few catty's made of willow from the UK an the game they took with them i'd definately favor a thicker fork there though ,have some juniper forks i cut in late winter last year gonna try out it's a very tough wood also ,an have some service berry forks that are real strong as well ,we have a mountain maple here that dry's hard as a rock also an i'm working on a few from th
