  12. thanks guys! most people are saying the same now and its to take her out ferreting! and will get her out this sept with the ferrets and try a few nights lamping when her prey drive kicks in. Would it be worth taking her out with the lamp at night and just letting her see rabbits in the light or not?.... Ross click on articles at the top of the forum then click on working dogs then click on starting a lurcher pup lamping by wild rover in my humble opinion a excellent guide to starting a young dog off on the lamp. will do! thanks

  14. she has prey drive! just wont go full at it, shes had it and all of a sudden just dropped back and wont run as much
  15. thanks, is it not a good idea to take nets just to get her used to a rabbit bolting first or... im just new to the rabbiting with a dog so any advice is much appreciated cheersuse nets, the dog doesn't want a chase it wants its prey. Let it get a feel of a live struggling rabbit. I find they bolt too quick without nets and on most earths will run down the hedgeline and not into or across the field i do most my ferreting on open hill up here!, i will do a bit of both net a few holes and leave others just to let the dog get used to it and get some runs! its the coursing i need her to pick
  16. thanks for the help guys! its really helping and giving me ideas. i just want her working but i know it takes time, im gonna give her a while maybe start her in august on some younger ones just to give her the confidence. and in relation to cover theres a big open path about 30 yards wide and 100 yards long with holes on either side and the occasional winnie bush. which isnt the best bit cause of the lack of room, i will get her in the open fields on some of my permissions! any more advice is good help! thanks again guys There's your problem mate, on those dimensions even if a rabbit sits

  19. scottish borders mate! i hope so! will just give her time and get her with the ferrets come september and let her mooch about a bit more! A bit far but I'm down that way fishin on the Tweed now and again. Try her again Sept when she will be the right age to start. If you're lampin get as close to the rabbit as possible before you slip her and try giving her easier slips where she's got plenty space to chase and gives her a better chance of catching. Once she gets her 1st kill she will hopefully click. Keep us posted on how she does and best of luck with her ;-) i will let you's know!
