I knew an old boy he'd be around 90 now if he was still alive that used to lamp salmon on a river with paraffin hand held wick lanterns that must of been in the 1940s or 1950s they used to bring a jack Russel that barked whenever someone was coming down riverbank and it would let them know if bailiffs were coming. The dog must of been worth its weight in gold lol. I wonder did the old boys complain that paraffin lamps didn't shine up a rabbits eyes as good as old whale oil lamps the same as the new leds do now ha ha?

Cut a hole in concrete in floor and cover it with a nice mat then put your wife under the floor,concrete her in and stick the gun cabinet to the bedroom wall or wherever you want. -

I wouldnt say a terrier running around is wasting time at all its nice to see an enthusiastic pup but theres some good terriers that can mark holes the same as a good hound that marks holes and some are rarely wrong the same as there is good terriers that run blank tubes which is also nice to see. Once another dog doesnt find after them checking and they are doing the job right it wouldnt bother me either way and i wont run down other men or their dogs as a waste of time.

I like to look at an earth similiar to a chimney if you call to someones house and the fires lit you know their home you see smoke. Similar at an earth every entrance in a big 20 hole earth might not have scent in it with updrafts and downdrafts drifting scent different directions but you can be sure that if that game is lying in there even for a week without surfacing then it has to be able to breath regalurly then one of those tubes and entrances is feeding it oxygen even if its a dead unused tube. Id start further than 100 yards more like 300 better safe than sorry givng the dog treats and praise slowly getting closer even if it takes weeks because if you rush it can go badly wrong. Ive heard there is tape recordings that you can buy for kennels with slowly increasing bangs. Probably get them on internet. Best of luck.

Like he said his next young bitch too breed had 40 digs in 1st season allthough never certain he,d have a fair idea how good she was and how she worked some dogs dont get 40 digs in their lives and if thats spread over 4 seaons is it a better dog?

That article is an interesting read that the bitchs at 3 year old were breeding better pups if it worked for him why not he could change things quickly if it wasnt clicking without losing a decade before you release its not what you want. For example someone who likes to work a bitch for at least 4 full seasons before breeding would leave the bitch 6 year old having the pups and 8 when her first litter are in their first season then if it fails and you breed another litter its a decade before you release that the next litter from a different bitch has reached a standard. If he breeds dogs and bitchs in large quantitys he will quickly hear reports on which are the top producing sires/dams and which are muck i bet if he wanted to give someone close a decent bred pup he would know which to give them, but the lads at the bottom of the cue will recieve the wastage.

Springer is probably the best if left to range out but are bred to hunt silent in fieldtrials so aren,t natural barkers. A big size of terrier of any sort or cross with a brain and drive will bush foxes once they get a bit of work with experienced dogs they will pick it up. Preferably a dog that yaps on foxes and lets you know which direction its heading but not a dog that barks at hare/deer/rabbit/pheasant and ends up drawing the rest of pack on a wild goose chase screaming its head off. Jiggy thats a bit of a ridiculas statement about standards,is it not the very reason lads cull hard when terriers are inferior and breed from nothing onlt of the highest standard and keep striving to actually improve the standard they already have even though its at a high as it is.i agree with what you say fatman but you cant control whats outside your yard i can only control whats in mine and ignore the rest.

would i keep a small type dog probably no but best of luck to him i dont wish him ill he is a hunting man and i dont agree with him i wont go out of my way to destroy him. Different blokes different strokes.
