-
i woulda thought your place was pretty secure mate. was it just jills they took? some [bANNED TEXT] c*nts about! its sad that somebody could stoop as low as stealing a ferret! hope you get sorted atb less of the black and white crack tho! you cant know that can you?

i had the pup out when she was maybe 15 weeks, spotted a rabbit over gate it spooked and nicked off into some brambles. i got half way across the field and i heard squealing so doubled back. the pup saw off a stoat and showed no interest in the half dead rabbit. another time i was fishing and on the opposite bank i watched a stoat course a rabbit back and forth around 50yds 3/4 times. rabbit didnt seem to want to go to ground. i had an encounter with a weasel once when i worked on a golf course, was on the tractor going to tip a load when i saw a rabbit in middle of track flippin about as if

sorry about that . i meant the way chid explained and he is right it does take a bit of brute strength. anything from a 3 quarter grown and smaller should be easy enough for little hands. the old bucks are the worst, like poppin a football wi your bare hands. the best thing about this method is once you get the knack you can do it in the dark whilst lamping and you end up carrying half the weight. beware of the poo strings tho

my hob kit locked on today, i had latex gloves on for rubbin in flea spray so i dont think he could smell it was me. i wouldnt resort to gloves tho.

just to add before anyone jumps on it the hares were shot!
-
best get used to skinnin and guttin lad, the joys of hunting, had four hares and a rabbit to do the other night aaawfull at midnight when all you want to do is hit the hay i tend to gut em out in the field, less weight to carry home and less stink in the bin. theres a vid on youtube shows you how to gut em without a knife and a quick way to skin and prepare them, iv spent years gettin me mitts mucky for no reason. atb

i feed mine a little bit at the same time as normal just to stop the whining. i have also noticed when i go out lamping she empties herself 3/4 time in the first half hour, in my mind she knows that she should run light.

Y FRONTS? that was a long time ago . i'll not be taking any chances, cant be doing with a pup with pups. havent got the space, time or money. i'v been thinking about getting her spade but think i may regret it down the line somewhere so as said before, batten doon the hatches. to keep the thread going what are peoples views on having a bitch spade? i know there is always a massive debate when breeding is mentioned, but how many people decide at the start that they will not breed??
-
just to prolong the agony!! it should be easy enough to keep her away from dogs. i just hope she doesnt turn like my dads parsons bitch who lifts her tail for any dog, and looks for it. amazingly she has never been pupped in 9years. to be honest i'v always said this is a shame because a better temprement dog you would struggle to find. always been very patient with 99% of dogs and bitches, especially lively lurcher pups. the 1% she doesnt like she will go at like the devil.
-
i had a feeling that would be the case, anyone fancy dog sitting for a couple of weeks?
-
how long do they normally bleed for, or is it different for each bitch? iv just noticed blood droplets on the kitchen tiles and as she has run of the house normally im going to have to keep her confined until she stops bleeding.thanks for the feedback

apart from accidental mating, is there any dangers if i do work her? if my reckoning is right she should be fine 2weeks on sunday. might give the grass time to die off, suppose it gives me a bit more time to get the ferret kits up and running too. should her food be kept the same? she isnt going to be getting her usual amount of excercise if iv gotta be overly careful wi her.cheers
-
the pup has come into season, pretty much a year old. think iv noticed her being swollen for around 4/5 days but just noticed bleeding today. how long do i keep her away from dogs? can anybody fill me in with what i should/shouldnt be doing? and reasons why etc. cheers

How many people do this? Is it dependent on ground etc or is it an every time out thing? Does it alter the way the dog runs, is the dog aware of them? Obviously it knows when you put them on, I mean whilst out. Do they bother the dog? Cheers

Charge your batteries lads! Just got back, best night so far weather wise got 3 in 1st field, missed 1 in the next field then all went dark!! Didn't even get to the good spots! Pup did well spotting them in the beam, picked them up well. But knackers here didn't charge me battery! Atb

spraying the ferret? nice write up i might get out in morning. atb -
i keep turning light away when rabbit gets to fence/cover etc...just for it to come flying back out. i will learn its just reaction.having a dimmer definitely helps when navigating obstacles, crossing streams etc.until you know your route 100% i think you need to light up some places.on a plus the pup has started to run the beam and is back pretty quick after a miss, still no retrieve but she comes closer each time. its a learning curve for us both.
