If your going to try an do whats on that video If I was you i would also look for an old empty shoe box cause i would say that ferret in the above video is a very rare exception and youll need the shoe box to bury old bugs bunny in.Also have a hole big enough for the shoe box dug at the bottom of your garden as the wife and kids will never let you feed it to the ferret once he kills poor buggsy. Theres nothing wrong with keeping pet rabbits but its two hutches my friend as far apart as you can possibly get and never the twain shall meet, in my humble opinion.Ive watched that video about 6 ti -

Mate i went out last season with business cards i got made with "rabbit control" free.. ect,ect printed on them with my telephone number on the bottom.I took my two youngest sons 6-8 years old with me and just went round some farms about my area and knocked doors or put them through their letter box.I usually go hunting in my transit van but some farmers think you are up to no good if you arrive in their yard in a van, they get very suspicious probably for good reason. So i got the two wee sons and as the guy above stated ,i arrived dressed respectivly with two kids in the wifes shiny car.If yo -

:icon_eek: :icon_eek: Cant believe what i just watched there ,i would have thought the ferrets desire to do what comes naturally would have kicked in.Wow ,i need to keep the kids and missus from seeing that video or they'll have me down to "pets at home" for a couple of dwarf eared rabbits and a hutch .Wouldn't fancy trying it out for the first time with both of them ,it must have been nerve wrecking. I can see it now,me the missus all the kids a ferret, rabbit and a tin of pepper spray incase it all went wrong. -
A simple rule of thumb Andy is, if they are all sleeping soundly after eating from the dish they are getting enough. If you have some crying and running about all over the place they may well still need a bottle or two for a few more days.At 3 weeks there should be no problem with them learning to lap from a bowl but they will climb all over the food and each other and generally get covered in it .So if you have any jills with no kits of her own just put her in with them between meals and she will do the hard work of cleaning them for you.Just be carefull as if they constantly get covered in th

Mate i replied to a guy with the same problem as yours a few weeks back here on the forum .Check out "ferret help desperate"on the thread here.I hand reared 10 kits a few weeks back and got them all through no bother. If you have got them up to the 3 week mark you are flying mate as you can start weaning them right away.I gave mine minced beef, chicken or rabbit mixed with the Beaphar kitten milk mate to get them going. All i done was cut rabbit meat off the bone put it in a clear bag bashed it to oblivion and then mixed in some of the kitten milk to form a gloupy porrage type consistancy.Same

what a cracking post VC . read it earler but needed to go feed the birds and just read it again, trust me thats helped me out alot and most definitley for the future if needed! it a great bit of information and advice for anyone stuck in this situation. at the moment I have stuck them back with the other female in the hope everything is ok, so far so good she don't seem non the wise although she will have her work cut out for a while. I suppose I was lucky to have another female with kits of a simular age, if not I would be following your post to a T!! if things don't work I still may

Hard work all right mate and to be honest if they are in or around 3 weeks you are in with a chance any younger and its a whole new ball game and 10 times harder to bring them through as im sure you know. At 3 weeks you can afford to feed them every 4 hours, but when they are younger its every 2 hours ,so your no sooner done with a feed and its near time to start again.I, like Jasper was lucky enough that they were at the 3 week mark so you know you only have a couple of weeks to keep them going but have to agree it was hard work .My kids enjoyed every minute of feeding times and with the amoun

One other thing mate,i had also tried the idea of putting 4 of the orphaned kits in with a jill that had kits a week younger than the orphaned ones as she had only four in her litter. It all went well for a few days but then i noticed 2 of the kits from the nursing jill were really small and were constantly out in the run and not the bed.The stronger orphaned week older kits were dominating the teats and i think the jill was ingnoring her own kits thinking they were weaker or sick.but even the ones i was hand rearing were getting far bigger and stronger than the 4 i had put in with the nursing

Hi there mate Im the guy Dazzam posted about a few posts up,he contacted me to see if i could help you out.As Darren said my own circumstances were exactly the same as yours. The jill was fine sitting on 10 Kits one day and gone the next.Mine were just 3 weeks old so i headed to a local pet shop (jolly's) and got kitten rearing milk (beaphar)was the make and a small beaphar feeding set .The kitten milk is better as some of the dog rearing milk has lactose and ferrets dont do well on it as they are lactose intolerant. You get a small plastic spoon in the tin with the powdered milk mate and all i

would you not say whippets are purpose bred for serious rabbiting then as a lurcher owner most of my life i have for the last 4-5 years kept only whippets for this very reason .i can assure you i have never ever found them inferior to any purpose bred lurcher as you put it. To say a whippet would will never be as good as a lurcher is pure pish in my book.A good un is a good un, be it lurcher or whippet. Not knocking lurchers and never would, ive had some cracking rabbiting lurchers over the years . But you cant generalise any breed of dog against another and if YOU can ,how do you judge it?
-
Personally i dont think whippets are becoming more popular or happen to be a trend, whippets have always been popular within hunting circles. i just think people are becoming alot more aware of them with the help of forums ect like this and the guys who work them are not afaraid to shout about how versatile these wee dogs actually are. i was always a lurcher man but had friends who hunted whippets and was always impressed with them. When my old lurcher died i decided to buy my first whippet and now i wouldnt keep anything other than whippets. They are great wee all rounders be it ferreting lampi

I know what you mean mate with the feeding,at the moment mine are in a hutch that opens from doors at the front.ill need to move them in a week or two into a hutch with a lift up lid to keep them at bay a wee bit.Either that or i can take juggling lessons before their eyes open

One of my wee jills has recently given birth to a litter of 11 , they are 1 week old tomorrow and all still alive although 2 smaller than the rest. The jill is still looking fit and well up to now but im sure 11 will take its toll on her in the coming weeks (if they all make it). Anybody had any bigger litters and did they all survive ?
