  1. In Scotland at this time of year You never know. There was a blue phase snow goose in with a flock of white fronts beside me this time last year!
  2. Garganey drakes possibly??
  3. This is a website started by a wild fowling friend of mine. Just helping to get his name out there. He's been photographing wildlife for years and the few times that he's been out with me the photos he takes are amazing. Field To Frame is a Northern Ireland based field sports and rural photography service established and run by Matthew Scott. With an array of awards and contributions, experience within the professional industry and a bachelor of arts Matthew certainly has the qualifications and ability for his chosen field of photography. If you would like to capture the excitement, adren
  4. As far as i'm aware as long as it isn't clips of actual birds that the recording are of its legal.
  5. Grass seeds the business for teal. They go mad for it!!
  6. Replicate what you see the ducks doing. If there mixing mix your decoys but if they aren't dont.
  7. Anything less then a full chokes for little girls!!
  8. Pochards the finest eating duck of them all. Especially later in the season when they get a good layer of fat. Was it a drake?? Looks unusual. Not many ducks winter here most go to France and Spain.
  9. Somethings shining, either decoys your gun or your hands. Its very difficult to find decoys that don't shine. Some are really bad. Wet muddy ground can also stop pigeons from decoying because they don't like getting their feet dirty but if crows were swinging off as well i'd say its shine thats doing the harm.
  10. First off find geese! Make sure you can get permission on the ground where they are feeding or the water close to where they are feeding (if they are walking into a field from water canadas will tend to land short and swim the last hundred yards so getting onto the water can be helpful. If you choose to decoy water for canadas place your decoys a good 60 to yards upwind of your hide because they will land short, even if they dont they have to pass the hide to get to the decoys.) Watch your geese for a while see when they are coming and going and what direction the roost is in/ how far away it
  11. If its gas operated a lighter spring on the magazine tube should allow it to cycle lighter loads. For my money the no more reliable better value semi auto on the market then a fabarm. I've had two, the guy i shoot with has 1 and 2 other guys in our club shoot them. Never had a problem between us. Cycles all loads.
  12. Finished up last Saturday with 24 Scaup and 2 Tufted. All shot before 8am. It was a hectic hours shooting. Stayed on in the hide and took a mug of tea and a few photos, ducks were still bombing into the decoys. Could have shot 100 easy by 10am. Got some fantastic photos! Hopefully heading back this weekend for another go.
  13. Theres hundreds of good ways to cook goose from traditional roasting to fajitas. Not overcooking them is the biggest secret. Heres a good recipe from delta waterfowl. Made this myself last week. Went down a treat. Atb Mark http://www.deltawaterfowl.org/hunting/recipes/archive/001-goosestew.php
  14. His brothers a photographer and he's comin out for the day too so hopefully have a few good photos to post up. Limiting us too 6 ducks each, 4 of us shooting. He says we should have our 24 ducks shot by 8:30. Can't wait! Good luck at the lags. Hope you get under them. Atb Mark
  15. That boys just after textin me. 800 infront of the hide today!! Be bad if we cant get a couple outa that!
  16. Thats the job. It' will be another month before i see any greylags here. Headin to lough neagh saturday. Got a couple a fellows from up there a good day at the canadas two weeks ago now they have 400 scaup up infront of there hide. Should have a good morning. Fairly typical though took a drive round yesterday evening. Found 2 separate fields of canadas ready for shootin. Have to work tomorrow and we can't shoot on a sunday. Should be rested in 2 saturdays time!
  17. Good shine on that chap. Need my sunglasses!!
  18. As said before watch your geese see what time they are arriving at, what direction they are coming in from and where abouts on the field they are feeding. Try to get your hands on some decoys and a call, get there before them and wait it out. You will need a decent hide because they have eagle eyes! If you're unfamiliar with decoying be sure to give the geese plenty of room downwind to work the decoys as they have to face into the wind to land. As les said swing well through, head and neck is where you want to shoot them but if you get them that close you'll work the rest out. Just getting up

    Geese

Geese on stubbles and grass is very common. Keep an eye on them, they're more then likely coming in the early morning depending on species (grey geese usually feed earliest canadas latter) if there canadas there probably heading to feed at 8 to 10 in the morning. Taken note of where abouts on the field they are feeding get a few decoys and wait for them to arrive in the morning. With a bit of luck they might be coming in small bunches and you will get plenty of shooting. atb Mark
  20. Flutter your tongue into a mallard call. Lengthen the read a little if you want a pure diver call but an ordinary mallard call should get the job done. They dont call alot anyway but sometimes it can make them swing in. Finding out where divers are feeding is the biggest secret. If you set up right where they were feeding you could shoot them in a high viz jacket but if your 200 yards either side all the decoys in the world wont pull them. Where do you shoot? Atb Mark.
  21. Good luck with that. Should have a good days bangin. I wish we had cereal crops around here. They can sure pull ducks!!
  22. Stick to your v-max. FMJ's are target ammo. I've shot prvi partisans and they didn't work for me but i got magtechs for the same money and they grouped fine. It depends on your rifle. You won't get the same kills with soft points that you will with v-max but they're not bad.

    goose call

    Home made short reed.
  24. I'd take that 6 days a week if i could get it brendy. There not going to be any simpler from here on in though. The weeds starting to break up now so they'll be loafin about the lough for the next few weeks feeding on that. Its a long time till febuary though. More will die!! You get any lags yet? The first of our divers and wigeon are starting to show up. Seen a good flock of teal this morning too. must have been 50+ in it.
