  1. Gilchrist got some shite for shooting that. In the same situation I'd have shot it too. Vermin breeds vermin regardless of colour! Would look grand on my wall too.
  2. Do you want to know how far it can kill or how far it will travel? If your George Digweed you can probably shoot pigeons at 85 to 90 yards. For the average man 60 yards is a very good shot. Lead shot can probably travel 350 to 400 yards if fired at the right angle but it wont do much harm outside 100 yards.
  3. I have a redhead delux which I really like. My friends have a tanglefree and an Avery finisher. I think my pick of them is the avery although they all get the job done. I've shot out of the smaller avery blind with the flip up hood and didn't like it. Give kevin wilcox a ring and see what he has. If you deal with him outside of ebay he usually does stuff abit cheaper. http://www.tidepool.co.uk/ Atb Mark.
  4. They'll eat most things. I know they eat calf nuts. Usually barley, wheat, maize, bread, potato's are good. Depends what species of ducks your feeding and what depth of water and current your feeding in.
  5. Thats nothin Just read the ingredients of my frosties. Contains no tiger what so ever! Im bringing them back to the shop in the morning for a refund and an argument!
  6. Anyone got any idea how much camping tickets for the cla are likely to be. Prices aren't up on the website yet as the tickets aren't on sale yet. Anyone know how much they were last year? Don't know weather or not to book a hotel. Thanks Mark
  7. The chances of shooting a running fox with a slug through a smooth barrel would be quite slim. Unless your Andre Georgscu! I've shot them. Inconsistent to say the least! I'll stick with my light loads, they work for me!
  8. why would a number 3 have a greater spread than no.4 or 5? and if it did, the pattern would be very sparse! Correct. Lighter loads travel faster, pattern better and have far less recoil if you need to put a second one in him. A better choice all round!
  9. More then capable. I've shoot hundreds driven with hounds or stalked at night. Favourite shell was always rc40's in no.6. They are deadly! Used to shoot 56g noble sport 1's and 2's but i always found i got better kills with the lighter loads. Always shoot through a full choke!
  10. I wouldn't be teaching a pointer to retrieve at all. From my experience if you train them with dummys at an early age it can cause them to run after birds on the flush in anticipation of a retrieve. They generally pick it up for themselves. As far as birds goes, as many as you can show the pups at this stage. The more the better but make sure you have a long lead on the dogs to keep them from running in and chasing. Bad habits can develop very quickly.
  11. Press, Good scales (best to weigh out your powder loads individually rather then relying on bushings) Powder, shot, Wads, Primers,Spent or new casings. DUCKS!! For more info call these guys. They'll keep you right. http://claygame.co.uk/
  12. Agreed. I've seen a few shot beyond 50 but there few and far between!
  13. Hmm it may travel 300 yards but i'd fancy my chances of surviving being hit at that range! The drop off would be phenomenal!
  14. Go to your local clay ground and pick through the empties.
  15. The one that fits you best will kick the least. Theres no point in anyone telling you what to shoot. Get out and try them. I shoot a fabarm and love it, never gives me any trouble, i also have optional weights that screw into the stock and onto the fore end to reduce recoil. I only ever put them in for big days at crows or pigeons but it does make a difference. Everyone goes on about benellis being light of recoil but they kick the shit out of me. Must just be incorrect gun fit.
  16. Own a remington 700 and a browning x bolt, have shoot my friends t3 for years. any of the 3 will make fantastic rifles. All are capable of very accurate shooting. Love the trigger in my remington. Howa 1500 is also a lovely rifle to shoot and probably will cost you abit less, houge rubberised stock on them is lovely. All in all i dont think there is such a thing as a bad rifle. All capable of shooting good groups or they wouldn't make it to the market in the first place.
  17. I wish i had foreshore to shoot. Getting withdrawal symptoms!
  18. Some good days some bad days but definity more good then bad this season. We done well at the geese early on and once the divers came in we some great shooting. Totted up the game book last night. 178 ducks and 70 geese for the season. Not a bad doo. Well done on the pintail. I've been trying to shoot one for years. Havn't even got to pull the trigger on one yet!
  19. Well done. Good to see a few young ones getting into the sport. Good time of the year to get them started too, all year till September to get excited about heading out again. Absence makes the heart grow fonder! Atb
  20. Have to head east for the scaup brendy. Had a good day at home saturday before though. Finished up with 15 could have had at least another 10. In need of another man! They kept flying round a point, i was set up round the back for the shelter, plenty of ducks swung over the point and wouldn't double back to decoy.
  21. New barrel every year?? This is a myth started by people who know feck all. I've been shooting one flat out for the past 7 years. I wouldn't like to be a fox at 300 yards yet! For normal shooting purposes a barrel will last you a lifetime. If your shooting hundreds of rounds at targets all the time maybe you can shoot one out. To be honest there isnt much difference between the two calibres. Either one will make a great fox gun. Woz your right, any fox shot over 250 yards at night is a long shot!
  22. Any that I've had have been yappy b*****ds. They have a mind of there own and can be hard to work with. No doubt there hardy waterfowl dogs though, I've seen one Chesapeake carry 35 plus divers out of a 3 foot wave on lough neagh on his own in January. Not many dogs that stick that kind of work. A Labrador will work to please you, a Chesapeake works to please himself!
  23. I've kept and worked several chessies and never seen any that would fight. However they were all mad as hatters and if you cross it with another dog thats as mad as a hatter ie a springer you will end up with one very hard to handle dog. Stick to a lab would be my advice. Nothing else to touch them.
