Drennan sub surface line. There's your secret! Nothin else comes close. I step them down, for buzzer fishin I usually use 6-5-4lb.
-
Depends what your shootin off them. If you want sticks for deer those will do your job for sure. My friend designed these sticks about 10 years ago and made a few sets for shooters around here. They are second to none for steadiness. I've shoot foxes to 200 yards off them and I know I couldn't do that from traditionally designed sticks. Now theve turned up on the bushwear website. It seems someone else had the same idea. I'll include a link to there website. There dead easy to make. If you want to know anythin about makin them PM me. Keep an eye on this website aswell. Can be good for second hand optics. Friend a mine bought a second hand swarovski 8x56 from him a few years back for £350. http://www.rmacleod.co.uk/

Make your own. I'll try and get a photo and send you a great design. Much better then anythin you'll buy. Mine are made from the garden poles that you get in B&Q. Atb Mark

My strange capture in a Mk4 and Mk6 Fenn
remi700 replied to Bunny Boiler's topic in Snaring, Trapping & Pest Control
Lucky you! We arn't allowed to kill the fuckers over here! -
Layout blind slap bang in the middle of the field, wind on the back and stubble it out well. Obviously depends on the crops your decoying in but when possible this is my favourite method. Keeps them from lightin short in trees and fightin the wind if direction changes. They also get wary of landing close to hedges after a while. As with any form of decoying the better your hide the better success you will have. Atb Mark

Buzzard control plans on the horizon?
remi700 replied to Malt's topic in Gamekeeping, Conservation & Shoot Management
Basicly what that article says is some fuckers in suits are gona get payed £375,000 to argue for about 10 years about the rights and wrongs of it after which no one will be allowed to control them anyways. I watched a program 1 nite where the rspb had a camera fixed on a buzzard nest when she was feedin young. The buzzard brought back something like 11 red squirrels to the nest, after that it cut back to the rspb man that was doin the study who announced that she must have got the red squirrels as road kill! They see the world through rose tinted glasses but unfortunately they have the funding -
Lab and a yellow 1 at that!! Wouldn't entertain the thought of a springer. Defiantly not for hide work. You'll get people tell you that a springers better then a lab for rough shootin, Bollocks!! They lab miten't do as much running but they hunt with there head rather then running madly into birds. More birds in the gamebag. Well that's my opinion anyway, Your entitled to yours but if its different to mine your wrong!!lol. Atb Mark

Rifle transport in vehicle
remi700 replied to Declan Mc Conway's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
Strictly within the law it should be locked to the fabric of the vehicle but they don't police that. As long as you keep it with the bolt out you should be ok. No bullets to be kept in the magazine or tray also. If your not lampin it would be a good idea to keep it in a slip or case. Atb Mark -
Schmidt Bender 8x56 or 6x42?
remi700 replied to Helmuthunter's topic in Reloading and Gun Maintenance
Have a schmidt 8x56 on a 22-250 and I've shoot foxes to 300 yards with it. Fantastic glass, you wont go wrong with either. Depends what your shootin really. For deer id imagine the 6x42 would do the job. Personally if I had it all to do again id buy another 8x56. Atb Mark -
Keep an eye to guntrader.co.uk. £400-£500s a good budget. You should have no bother getting something for that. Personally id go for a better quality second hand gun rather then a cheaper new 1. Benneli or fabarm would be my choice. I've just never found a bereta auto that I liked (seem to make them very long in the stock) but that's just my opinion. My local gun dealer started stocking fabarms about 7-8 years ago. I bought 1 and the fella i shoot with bought 1 about the same time. since then 2 a my other friends have bought them. none of us have had a single problem with them to date. Was ch

Wouldn't buy a hawke scope, you'd just be throwin good money after bad. End up buyin somthin else in 12 months when you get sick a seein nothin. I bought a schmidt bender 2 years ago 8x56 brand new for £380. Keep an eye on ebay, you could be suprised what you can pick up.

Id try to find a second hand european fixed power, somthin like a kahles 6x42 or somthing like that. Keep an eye to ebay sometimes get a bargain there. You'll always get better value and quality from a european scope because it should last you a lifetime. Dont worry about lower magnifications if the quality is in the glass it will get your job done. Hard to beat an auto for that kina work. Very handy in a hide cause you need no room to break it. Cant beat a fabarm. In my eyes no other auto comes close! Atb Mark.

Calling in a fox
remi700 replied to Jimmy.c.'s topic in Gamekeeping, Conservation & Shoot Management
Try and get out for a night with someone who can call. You'll learn more in an hour then you'll teach yourself in a year! Theres a great range of mouth blown calls out there and as mentioned before wet polystyrene on the windscreen of the car will do the job too (and a squeak on your hand if you know how to do it). Never call at a fox that's downwind of you or you'll never shoot him or call him again. Wind direction should never be overlooked! ATB Mark. -

Where abouts are you from??

The one you shoot best with! I have great faith in eley Olympics but that's just because I shoot everything with them, pigeons crows game clays. There's no such thing as a bad cartridge, its all in your head. If it goes bang the rests up to you! Atb Mark

Within the law in ROI you can have a 22-250 put on for deer but its hard to know whether they'd give you one for that purpose. .223 is a very capable foxing round and will kill deer stone dead if you put it in the right place but it is illegal. Using V-max rounds there deadly!
