Best ballast material for shooting bags
remi700 replied to The Duncan's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
I use rice as-well. Never put a bag in it and its near wore through on the top now. No problems so far. Left if on the roof one night and drove about ten mile home and it was still on the roof when I got home. Often thought about gettin a piece a flat magnet and gluein it to the inside of the bottom of it to keep it from fallin off the roof.Atb Mark -
Recommendations for a decoying bag / Advice please
remi700 replied to mjr88's topic in Pigeon Shooting & Decoying
Have a few of these for goose decoys. There superb! I have the extra large ones, there the only thing I could get to take the abuse of carryin big spreads of goose coys without the handles comin off. Even got one with two handles one on either side, we use it when were shootin outa the layout blinds, take a handle each and one run down the field does all. Its massive holds 3 dozen shells and 2 dozen collapse-able full body goose coys. If you know anyone goin to america there worth havin. Don't get me stated on the useless f**kers!! Police are for city's and towns. Country folk no how to handle problems themselves!! I don't no about England but over here the police have no idea of firearms law! I got my guns taken off me a few years back for shooting a fox at night. It took me 4 months to get them back. There's only so many times you can tell the bollocks that its not against the law!

I've said it before and I'll say it again, if it goes bang the rests up to you!! Pattern testing will tell you nothing about a cartridges performance its just a waste of cartridges. Go shoot something with them!!

I got a mossy oak graphics kit to do my wood and blue fabarm auto. Fantastic job and it was only $25, you'd think it was factory done!

There's 1000 different fox calls available, each one will work given the right situation. Here's one of the better ones. They make this with a metal reed and a plastic reed. The metal reeds the one to go for. Atb Mark http://www.deben.com/calls/johnny-stewart-fox-call.html

62 grams that has to be lead. 62 grams of steel shot wouldn't fit even in a 3 1/2" casing. The bottom line is steel is shite! Completely useless for all things except firing at a pattern plate. The main reason I say this is it has no spread until its too late. You will do one of three things to a duck with steel shot. 1. If a duck is within 25 yards and you are fortunate enough to connect with the narrow window of shot that steel gives you will blow the duck to pieces!!! 2. The more likely scenario, you will clean miss the duck because of lack of spread. 3. A duck comes over at thirty yard

There a bugger to decoy!! Id say Les'es tactics are about as good as it gets for decoyin them. If you can find a roost you can make a good bag in the evenings when there not nesting. You used to be able to get a wee green electronic box call. done magpies fox call and crows too i think. They were lethal on mags at roost time. Ps if anyone readin this has one of these calls pm me! Well i'm from Fermanagh. Cant go out through the door without seeing fallow. It's got to the stage now that they've spread to so many farms that there becoming a real pest to many farmers. Also shoot down in Galway sometimes with a few southern lads and its the same of worse down there!! Sika are also growing in numbers but there more patchy.

You'll have to do a DSC level 1 to get a licence for anything bigger then .243 in Northern Ireland. There is a number of people running this course in northern Ireland at the minute from Basc and Sacs to private individuals who are now qualified to teach it. You don't have to go as far afield as Scotland. Northern Ireland is in the middle of a deer boom. Where abouts are you from??Atb Mark

Treat him like a small bird. You don't want to look at the body. Lead the head and neck as if that's the bit you want to hit. With steel shot you'll be wasting your time firing at anything else. Keep on swingin as said before there deceptively fast, a Canada goose can make 10 yards on every wing beat so no matter how close he is when you stand up in five seconds time he's outa range. It doesn't matter how many people give you advice on shooting these big birds, it will take you a few flocks to settle your head and take on board what you've been told. It can be hard not to stand up pick the big

That's the job. Did you put all those birds into one side of the top trap as call birds? Do they not kill each other? I tried to put two grey crows in one side of a trap once until my friend came to lift one for his trap. They cut the shit out of each other for about two minutes then one a them played dead on the bottom a the trap!

A big trout or a pike 3lb!! -
If your determined to buy something for fox control id say look for any .22 centerfire. .222, .223, 22-250, would be my choice. For a new gun your probably talkin about £650 upwards depending on make, Then a scope and moderator on top of that. You don't want to scrimp on a scope either so allow the same again. Its not gonna be cheap! As stubby said could make more sense to get someone with a centerfire to tag along with you for a while and get the numbers down. You could of course go down the second hand route abit cheaper. Keep an eye to guntrader.co.uk you wouldn't no what would turn up. Als

There wouldn't be many natives a Louth called Igors Ivanov!!

Sounds like liver fluke to me. When you cut it open were there any greyish lumps in it. Its also common to see dried up grey edges to the liver. Lot of fluke going around here. Id say 1 in every 3 deer I shoot has fluke. It dosnt effect the quality of the meat. Bin the liver eat the rest. Atb Mark

Hi gloop, Can you get the image i sent before from the bushwear catalogue? There defiantly the steadiest sticks I've ever shot off. Real easy to make all you need is 4 garden poles (cut off to suit your height after) I use a piece of water hose from a car to joint them at the bottom (a piece of rubber pipe that snugly fits over the poles is what you need) a couple of spouting bolts nuts and washers, a couple of short pieces of nylon strapping (cheap ratchet strap belt) for across the top for resting the gun on.
