Nice young buck from a local park I help to manage. These deer supposedly come from the Epping herd and typically have much less palmate antlers than average fallow. They are also small and gazelle -like with even the biggest bucks rarely topping 70kg. This one was feeding amongst some patches of bramble so allowed me to approach a few yards whenever his head was down and freeze when he looked up. Neck shot from yards with Ruger. 243

That cluster of 3 tines at the tip is not sika at all. For red antlers of that lwngth i would expect a greaterror girth and possibly mote tines. So you have either a slightly odd red or a red x sika. Or some exotic park reared foreign species. I go for red x sika.

I thought you were meant to wait for the first frost before picking sloe? Something to do with the sugars breaking down? Is it just old school tales?I dont know if it makes any difference to the taste to wait for a frost but putting them in the freezer would have the same effect on the berries.Another tradition was that every berry had to be pricked with a silver pin. I can tell you for a fact that this makes no difference at all ? I like to add a few drops of almond essence to my sloe gin.

What is this expression "taking the knee"? There is an English expression "BENDING THE KNEE" which means both literally and figuratively to show obedience or admit dominance but is this other thing is something new which doesn't even make sense. Last time I took a knee it was right in my bullocks and really hurt....

I have seen cats shift foxes off food many many times and never seen a cat back down to a fox. I suspect a fox would eat roadkill or maybe kittens but it would be a rare thing for a fox to kill a healthy adult cat I think
