  1. my two pups at 8 weeks and 10 months.mother is a first cross sprocker, sire is a working cocker.sometimes hard to believe they are litter brothers.
  2. In situations such as the like of this I would try to let the pups burn off a little energy earlier if possible the smell and sight of game is overloading an already excited pup , A play round or a good walk if you know you are going out later or some form of a good burn out just to take the edge off them so that the energy issue doesn't arise They will settle down as they mature when prey losses it's novelty value to them it's the same with all young things their excitement of the world is engrossing for them once again good advice from this forum.i will give this a try.thanks.
  3. my two sprocker pups have started to yap when they are running.they are both just under 10 months old and i am training them seperately.they are both totally quiet when in the kennel.i thought at first they were just over excited but now im not so sure.will they grow out of this when they mature or do i need to nip this in the bud?.
  4. spot on.my two sprocker pups are 7 1/2 months old.the smaller chocolate dog will retrieve to hand, sit and wait for the puppy dummy to be taken off him.his black and white litter brother has just started to pick the dummy up.it would be so easy to spoil the chocolate dog as he is coming on so fast but i am still concentrating on the basics with them both for the time being.i have read a lot of cracking advice on here and obedience and steadyness needs sorting first before retrieving.
  5. cracking photo.did you get it?.
  6. i have 3 sprockers and a clumber/cocker.i work the older sprocker as the other two are her 6 month old pups.as a dog to shoot over she is fantastic but has learned where the birds hold on each drive when im beating and has to be watched as she goes deaf to the whistle.she works grouse and pheasant really well but is not too keen on retrieving pigeons.i lined her with a working cocker last year and the puops are coming along quite well so far.
  7. very nice pup.i kept two out of a litter of sprockers i bred last year.the black and white dog is very eager to please but lacks a bit of drive so far.they are 6 months so all this will come in time.the only chocolate pup in the litter is a proper live wire and needs constant attention.they are both coming on well with basic training but the chocolate dog has to be told twice while his brother only once.
  8. i started to train my sprocker pups with treats and praise on the recall whistle, then when they had being doing this for a month or so i phased out the treats and just kept the praise going.seems not to have done them any harm as at just under 6 months they will recall and sit at my feet every time.
  9. this advice is spot on.i was told to do this by the keeper on the shoot and my sprocker pups will return and sit at my feet no problem.
  10. i feed my older dogs skinners 23 during the season and skinners maintainence the rest of the year.my two pups are on skinners puppy food.have tried a lot of other dried foods and this seems to be the brand they prefer.
  11. i got my sprocker pups done for 30 quid each.thats docked, chipped and dewed.vet at stanhope did them.needed a lot of paperwork like shotgun cert, mothers chip cert in my name and a letter from the landowner stating i have permission to work them on his land.this was the only place in the durham area i could find.
  12. this is a very similar routine that i have with my four spaniels and it seems to work very well.the two sprocker pups that i kept from a litter have settled into it now at twelve weeks old.
  13. hi all, just a short intro to the forum. have been back into shooting for around 3 years after a long lay off. i was 17 when i got my first shotgun licence im 43 now. i keep sprockers and currently have two adult dogs(one of which has a litter) and the older does not work anymore so i am keeping a pup (or two!)to train. i no doubt will be asking loads of questions so thanks in advance for your patience. cheers denis
