  1. i would be very interested to see how this turns out as i have an s491 and the same proplem with after market parts.
  2. Yeah i have got it here now and had a bash with it yesterday, i put a couple of loads together from the lee manual and a few of my normal loads, surprise surprise the velocity stated in the Lee manual were within 5fps on both that i tried!!!.
  3. Yes i think thats about the right price for the A-max and V-max, i have used the nosler partition and the balistic tip, the balistic tip in both 50 and 55g, the bullet is second to none, i have hand loaded them and used them in the factory V shoc load, i used the V shoc from when they first came out because the land i used to shoot was very flat so i liked the way that they expended all their energy within the animal, unfortunately my barrel doesnt like them and i cant get them to group less than an inch at 100yrds with the odd one or two stepping out even further so i no longer use them, but
  4. A-Max are listed as a match bullet and hornady wont comment on their expansion, but they do say that the bullet is of the same construction as the v-max but has the A nomination which stands for Accurate, aparently, and they are about £25 a box, i would buy Noslers at that price.
  5. I have been hand loading for years and every thing i own is made by lee its all good kit and at a good price, the only thing i will say is the powder scale is a proper f**ker, its very acurate but very sensative i keep meaning to change it for something else but am too tight to pay the money!!!!. Dont forget to get a kinetic hammer (bullet puller) you will need one trust me!. P.S get your self a Factory crimp die they are excelent and will help uniform the pressure of your ammo making head space less important and your ammo will be more consistantly accurate.
  6. i can honestly say it was 150yrds or more i thought i had missed it, the bullet past right through and hit a fence post behind him taking a fair chunck out of it, there was no blood at or near the area so i just put it down to a miss. that was at 19.30, i left the field for a while and came back in at 21.30 from a gate on the other side and when i stopped to shut the gate there he was laid out ten feet from the gate. I have never had a soft point make it out the other side in one bit, the calibre was 223 a 55g hornady soft point with 24g of H335, my normal load is 23g of the same powder but i
  7. Personally i dont like the stutzen style stock and i think you may find that you will get a lot of marks on the underside of the stock when in use, its mor practical on larger calibre rifles that dont get used quite so much as a rabbit gun will.
  8. Hi all, I have just brought a new F1 chrony and would like some advise. i have used one before but it was on a range at Bisley some years ago and belonged to the club, so what i would like to ask is how far from the muzzle do those of you that use them, place them, iam aware that muzzle blast from larger calibres can cause problems with some chrongraphs but iam only using it on my 223. anny advise on these things would be greatfully recieved.
  9. Its a horrible thing when a fox runs on i hate that, had one 2 weeks ago i followed a real heavy blood trail till i could go no deeper in to the bushes, i know it dropped but i hate that feeling of failure to get a clean kill.Shot this boy from just over 200yrds and he ran on another 150 before he dropped, you can see i hit him a bit far down the body, poor shot placement on my part.
  10. Hi Mac I would say the ballistic tip or soft point will do the job nicely and in what ever weight your rifle shoots best. I shoot a 55g Hornady soft point they are cheap and do the job very well, loaded with 24g of H335 and a Federal 205 primer, but i have a 1:12 twist so your load will prob be different. I would like to use the ballistic tip ammo but my rifle doesnt like them at all.
  11. Now that is expensive but i recon you get one for 15/1600 if you shop around.
  12. like it that beast is quick. very low recoil too i want one now!
  13. barreta dont get a benelli if you can afford a berreta benelii build quaility is poor i have had both makes and the barreta is by far the best option. IMO
  14. just found this discription of the boresnake viper the new version. It may be what you have The NEW Hoppe's 9 Boresnake VIPER Cleaning System has everthing you love about the BoreSnake plus better cleaning and superior strength. It has 50% more brush cleaning power. Nylon cord of this Hoppe's 9 Cleaning System is attached directly to the bronze scrubbing brush. Cone-shaped bore guide on the leading end.
  15. Garbage use it as a hatstand and buy a Benelli I got ride of a benelli because it was built like a british leyland, things kept falling off.
  16. It has a brass weight on the string end then nothing till you get to the fat bit which has brass wire weaved into the material.
  17. i looked on there and a bloke cut down a 22 semi auto and had a long silencer on and all you could hear was a click as he fired, you must be able to get them near silent surely ? Sounds like Hollywood to me, think about how a semi works and what makes it cycle!!.
  18. No mate they dont well at least mine doesnt.
  19. Think i will stick to good old southern english its alot simpler.
  20. Yeah no sorry didnt get a word of that
  21. Did anyone understand that??? must be a code!!.
  22. yes i see what you mean and re-barreling is a possibility i have been looking a border barrels and trying to justify it to myself, if i cant convince myself i will never convince the wife!!, I read an article last night about a guy that had the same rifle as me, he started with it from new with a 22" barrel then he took it down in stages testing group size and velocity all the way down to 10", his results seemed to me to be a wee bit odd as he didnt lose much muzzle velocity or group size. i think he just F**ked up a 1800 quid rifle!!, it looks real odd in the pics as the barrel gets shorter
  23. Yep i use a pull through too for most of my cleaning i think it has just stuck with me from the days of SLR, felt spoiled when we changed to SA80 and we had brushes and rods in the kit and a multi tool too!!!!.
