  1. I agree with this i have just got had both my certs revoked for six months because i accepted a caution for a public order offence. i wish i had of just sat it out in the police station as there was no real evidence against me but i had been there long enough and accepted the caution, big mistake. I am in somerset too and believe me this all happend very quickly. the basic discription of what happened to me was that i swore in public at the bloke thats been knocking my wife of for months he rang the police saying i threatend him they cautioned me for a public order offence. i am now SGC and F
  2. IMO i think a selection to hand is a good ploy, i use the reed type and my hand mainly but i have others and they all seem to work at given times of year, but around this time of year you can just call "here foxy foxy" !!!!!!.
  3. good info, but i thought it was a burglar alarm after 5 guns??.
  4. make sure you dont tell them who`s calling or you may find yourself FAC free.
  5. now that was one of the best threads i have read on here for ages what a giggle.
  6. we get armed police round now, our force has cut back on FEO`s. makes the nieghbours looks.
  7. Can't help you with 50 gr Blitzkings as the guy I reloaded for used 50 gr Noslers in his RWS .223 Copied from my notes: 50 GR Nosler Ogive = 1.912" (COL = 2.324) New Case Datum 1.460 Fed Gold Primers Starting Trim 1.753 N133 25.3 gr 10thou back at 1.902 (col 2.314) with 25.3g Keep shoulder Datum around 1.463" I would imagine that both heads are roughly the same - this combination produced a 5 shot group of .261 when I handed the rifle over, but, as always please work up loads. I am not a great fan of 'close to the lands' but it seeme
  8. good fox shooters shoot the cubs first provided they are venturing out of the earth.
  9. I have a sako in 1:12 it is super accurate but there are limitations on bullet length, its not the grain of the bullets it the length that contacts the lands that causes the issues so if you can find a heavy bullet with a short length that contacts the lands your in!!, i have failed to find one in 10 years mind!. I always zero dead on and have no problems but one thing i will say about this is that the effect that tempature has on this round with its point of impact, i have zero`d it once at a temp of 2.4c and when the temp went up to 19c the impact had shifted up a full 2" up , this is not so
  10. very good points. Must agree with remi700 i have learnt this the hard way, the all important wind is over looked too oftern, i still find that i make no account for wind on occasion and i have been doing this for many years, still you know what they say about horses and water!!!!!!!!!!!!.
  11. No probs on the cosine chart mate i hope it helps you out, and i do mean it you have a very good style when shooting.
  12. I think this is an easy chioce, if its long range rabbits your after buy .17 if its foxes then the only ethical choice is a 22 centre fire.
  13. like your style Dan good shooting, you are very still and have very little movement even when you reload. a very good shooting style indeed. i think this puts the, its impossible brigade right, well done. It kind of makes me want to try it for my self, but i know that will end in disaponitment and a possible temper tantrum!!!!!.
  14. i like your style Neil But iam not convinced that your problems past 80yrds is not just down to the ammo, but i would likle to know what twist rate your barrel has, most are 1:16. i just think that your rounds seem to me to be a bit too uniform in their failings past 80yrds. I know from the emails you have sent me that your clued up ok, so dont doubt your abilities and the pictures you sent me back that up but i do think some thing is wrong somewhere be it in the ammo or your rifle. i know you say that they spot on, but it would seem they are only spot on to 80yrd.
  15. i think it personal pref on that i have never used it always 22 but i grew up being told that 177 was not the correct way to go because of the through and through shot, so when i had an air rifle it was always 22 for hunting and 177 for plinking in the garden.
  16. just noticed what i did there, sorry Mark no reference ment.
  17. no thats not sad, sad is sitting at home and not trying things out before you you preach them.
  18. so what would you estimate the effect to be on say the 22lr elevation in a full value 7-10mph wind at say 100yrd and lets say the rifle was already zero`d to that range?I was taught that a tail and head wind will never have a value so they are 0 value but in practice i have found that with .22 the head wind tends to pick the bullet up slightly and the tail wind seems to drop them down a bit, have you encountered that
  19. I didnt think it would have that much affect at 50 yrds and i must admit i never make an allowance for it on center fire either,
  20. i have to agree with Tegator on this wind can be very hard to read correctly, i know the theory very well but the estimation of wind speed is a fine art and very easy to get wrong. the 17 is less affected but wind than the 22 solely because of speed at ranges you would shoot a 22 at but if you where able to strech the range out so that both where equal it would be a different story if you see what i mean, it is all about the duration of exposure.
  21. Mark I think you will find that a lot of people forget about the birds of prey and automaticly go for fox or badger as the culpret. cats and dog also get over looked where i am but i know that they all do as much damage a foxes and badgers. when a ewe gets killed around here its always the fabled big cat that stalks the land under the cover of darkness, Bollocks it`s Mrs whites untrained and frustrated collie from down the lane!!!!.
  22. I can say it not I am a target shooter I know in comps I us a heavy barrel but I still group within a inch I do get the odd flyer. I also use my hunting rifle on the same range prone with no rest and I normally group with in 2 inches with the odd flyer. most of what people are saying is the set up of the gun with ammo is I use remmington I can not group 3 inches at 100 yards I zero my rifle at 75 yards and shot out to about 150. if you want to know more about why your rifles do what they do you need to look at reloading topics I know you can not reload .22 but the science is the same. bullet w
  23. round and round it goes Strangely i find that i must agree small minds stop these threads developing to something useful.Neil well done on that long shot that is way past my best fluke or not.
