Fox Control on a Moor Managed for Red Grouse
richmcgin replied to j18hud's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
yes that would be a good spot for a bait, tie the bait down it will keep him there longer, drag an opened carcase on a string from the areas you think he may appear from the baited area, sit and wait, if you get one stay put dont go near it, at this time of year you will prob get a chance at another one within a short time, be mindfull of the wind, on a moore you will be winded very quickly if your in the open. if you can use a trail cam it will help you out alot if your time is limited.- 14 replies

Sorry Mr Hooks i didnt see a post where you described transonic prior to my reply but know i have i see it is correct. and Dekers theory is flawed in that all bullets have to slow but not all become unstable. lets not forget the WSSM rounds they are very fast and mostly accurate, -

thought i may just look it up for you Deker so have pasted it below. "transonic speed refers to the condition of flight in which a range of velocities of airflow exist surrounding and flowing past" Please not the key words "RANGE OF". -

Every time you open your mouth you dig a deeper hole..... What I said was ....Velocitors..... ......they run at 1435 ft sec with 183ft lb at the muzzle and go transonic at just short of 100 yards, therefore stability is debatable. Transonic is the aerodynamic period at or around the speed of sound, that is between sub sonic and supersonic, where on earth do you get this hypersonic gibberish from, and the reason I said just short of 100 yards is because thats when a Velocitor drops to sub sonic from supersonic in the normal course of events, A Velocitor will NEVER go Hypersonic. -

I think Deker you need to open up a book and look it up, i suspect its all that hanging out of windows that messed your head up abit. still. i know you mean well and your little following on here love you very much so dont worry about it too much. -

Paulus you have a good point and well put, but as mr Hooks has ask i feel i must reply, we all know what supersonic is and we know that hypersonic is the next on the scale with the inbetween being covered my Mach, Transonic is the effect of diff air speeds at diff parts of an object between supersonic and hypersonic speeds, to give you more detail than that i would have to look it up and its not that important to me!!!!. the case that Deker puts forward would mean that any bullet going faster than supersonic would become unstable. not sure about why he thinks this would happen after 100yrds. -
make me an offer

"Transonic" do you honestly think so and do you honestly think transonic variables would be measurable on an item so small, sheer rubbish. -

Normal stuff going on here Deker is talking crap and having ago at anyone who dares to disagree with him, i expect he collected his information on velocitors while hanging out a bedroom window!!!!! yeah right, i saw that programme too !!!!!!!. -

would one of you tell me how to delete my account cant seem to find the button for it
-
no no no not made designed subtle difference but difference none the less but i do agree that this is not the place for me.
-
have just seen your ps Duncan about some threat or other. I would love to spend my evening discusing the atributes and terminal and external balistics or projectiles with you but i fear that from your previous comments i would be fooling myself i was to think that you would either belive or understand the content of the discussion.
-
I fully agree Deker and must admit that most of mine are taken at under 150yards and i dont think that anyone has suggested that smaller calibres cant be used but it has been said that they have limitations and if you were to use a c/f in an urban area you should have your ticket taken away. years ago the met would not allow you to use any bigger than 22lr in any built up area dont know if its the same now.
-
Sorry Duncan thought you asked if i had just plucked yrds out of the air, and yesi dont type too well !!! as for the 177 killing rabbits i have no doubt that it does kill well it should penetrate well with its light fast moving round but sheer stopping power comes with the heavier .22 carring more energy which is transfered into the target more efficently by a heaver round with larger surface. However Charlie caller your 177 will cause more damage at cloer ranges should the pellet hit a solid structure causing deflection within the target.
-
Well iam 48 years old .17 IS NOT A FOXING CALIBRE.
-
yes Duncan and i bet you use 177 for rabbits too lol.
-
you lot need sort it out irrisponsible shooters are bad news.
-
oh yes well spotted duncan my mistake get mixed up with the calibur in swords and calibre in guns but thats not the point. and no tegater thats not what people are saying most people seem to think it is reasonable to use 17 on foxes at 100yrds and over
