not read most of the replys as i can imagine whats wrote,,,, truth of the matter is a dog that worrys sheep or even chases sheep should be shot and the owner prosecuted even more -
you should not lamp hares they are not at there best on the lamp so yes 40 rabbits would be a lot harder to catch but i think youll find hares are faster imo Its not that cut and dry... In little stone walled feilds you could murder hares, big open land with bottomless dykes you could flatten dogs of a few slips. Some bits of land it would be possible to acheive 40 odd rabbits with one dog and on fast flat land on educated game, dog and handler would be lucky to catch 20. More dogs would get closer to the 40 rabbits than they would on ten good hares. Some dogs wont even c

lab how many of the hares on a shoot where 350 where shot got away after being shot at???? what did the beaters push through for the guns pity i not got a good lurcher it proberly would have a field day the day after picking easy wounded hares up all over the place,

on my permission i have a lot of both and at this time of year i would say over the 1st 30 seconds rabbits are faster then hares, Ok rabbits dont do 3 minute runs but we do course a lot bigger numbers in the night of rabbits, So who does think this time of year on the wheat fields the rabbit is the supreme athlete over 30 seconds.
