Yup, we as a country would have regulations forcing landlords to make sure the homes they were renting are fit for human habitation. Just a couple of posts ago you were saying how important that was and how the government should do something about it well Labour put forward a bill twice to do just that and the Tories blocked it. That's attempting to keep their manifesto pledges before they're even in government! Show me where I promised to take in a refugee? Have you put up a homeless soldier yet?

"Labour’s current position is that Britain should leave the single market and customs union but retain as much access as possible to both. Mr Corbyn has also suggested the UK could form a new customs union with the EU after Brexit." Seems like a pretty clear outline of Labour's position to me? Leave the Single Market and Customs Union and negotiate a bespoke trade deal with the EU, what's wrong with that? It's certainly equivalent to the actual government's position and they're the one currently engaged in the negotiations! The problem the Blairite MPs in thst article have is that Co

What has infighting over Brexit policy in the opposition party got to do ith government transparency? Clutching at straws there pal...

Commitments like the ones in my previous post are easy to implement with a simple vote in the HoC and so if Labour got a majority you can put money on them happening, other manifesto commitments by all parties are admittedly harder to implement and so may take time, be watered down from the original commitment or dropped completely but the manifestos are the only guideline we have as to what the party will do in power so it makes sense to read them and vote for the one you agree with most surely? We'd have stronger legislation forcing landlords to make sure their rentals were fit f

Your guess is as good as mine pal, pressure on the government to release them will definitely increase but pressure from Parliament has been pretty strong already. Transparency isn't something this government seem to believe in!

Rent controls, bringing in legislation to improve the quality of rented accommodation and strengthening tenants rights are all in the Labour Manifesto https://labour.org.uk/manifesto/secure-homes-for-all/#third

For real indepth reviews we'd need the full assessments released though, that still hasn't happened all that's been leaked is a summary document outlining the findings of those assessments as far as I know. We'd need to see the models used etc to make a real judgment of the findings.

From housing associations - "Under the plans, the next Labour government will strike a deal with housing associations – similar to that done by the Conservative over the right-to-buy – to make the homes available immediately as they fall vacant, and fund the replacements via Labour’s national housing programme. In this way, the homes for rough sleepers will become available much more quickly than if they were built from scratch." And yes this is part of the wider planned National Housing Programme that will include building at least 100,000 council and housing association homes for a

If the government themselves wanted this information out in public surely they wouldn't have originally denied the existence of impact assessments and then refused to release them to the public when ordered to do so by Parliament? Obviously this was leaked by a Remain supporting MP because they feel like it supports there position but equally this information was held back from the public by Brexit supporting MPs because they felt it damaged their position. Not really the sort of transparency I'd like to see from my government. Spot on, just because we don't like what the leaked docume

It's not that vague, it simply provides the findings the government came to in their own Brexit impact assessment. I assume they've held back from publishing the assessent in full to protect their source. If Buzzfeed are making shit up and the government want to prove that it's as simple as releasing the assessment in full, something they were ordered to do by Parliament months ago...
-
You reckon Buzzfeed made up the analysis out of whole cloth? I doubt that personally. There is no "balancing" it, either the analysis really does come from leaked government documents or it doesn't.
-
Buzzfeed have got hold of a leaked copy of the government's Brexit impact studies... https://www.buzzfeed.com/amphtml/albertonardelli/the-governments-own-brexit-analysis-says-the-uk-will-be I think this quote sums it up - Asked why the prime minister was not making the analysis public, a DExEU source told BuzzFeed News: "Because it's embarrassing."

Yep, along the same lines as buying the homeless a one way ticket to another area so they're someone else's problem Something which is becoming more and more common

Selfridges in Manchester did something similar a few years back, "defensive architecture" they call it. Personally I call it being a bunch of heartless c**ts.

Bournemouth Council's plan for tackling the homeless problem is slightly less compassionate... https://inews.co.uk/news/uk/bournemouth-installs-bars-town-centre-benches-prevent-homeless-sleepers-using/

I'll chuck one in the basket along with my Death Wish Coffee the French press could do with being replaced anyway, it's seen better days!

I just use an old French press, hadn't even heard of an aeropress until now but after Googling it looks like a decent bit of kit

Corbyn was against joining the EU and opposed Tony Blair waiving the UK's right to have a transitional arrangement to hold back on opening up freedom of movement to the Eastern Bloc countries when they joined the EU, a bit counterproductive if all he wants is to flood the country with Eastern Europeans!

I know a lot of homeless folk with dogs refuse spots in hostels and temporary accomdation because they can't take the dogs with them and understandably they don't want to abandon their only companions so would rather stick it out on the streets. You're spot on about the other services needing to be in place to truly break the cycle, a lot of these folks have been homeless so long and have so many other problems like mental health issues and substance abuse that need to be tackled too and you're right about the affordable rents too, homelessness is just a symptom of a housing system
-
I don't know about that, how about a panel made up of THL regulars? I'm sure they'd be fair and impartial
-
And how do you differentiate between those homeless who deserve to be housed and those who deserve to be written off for life and sent to rot in a workhouse? Personally I think it makes more sense to work towards all of them sorting their lives out and contributing to society.
