Shooting My First Reloads...223
riflehunter583 replied to DeerhoundLurcherMan's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
its like nicotine but without the fags! ive been trying different brass today and changing (seating depth/ powder weight / neck tension) none of todays have been crimped. and I didn't let the barrel cool all groups have been sub 0.4 inch so its not just barrel temp and crimp allot this helps alot. there are loads of variables from my experience. key is to find what variables your gun likes. -
Shooting My First Reloads...223
riflehunter583 replied to DeerhoundLurcherMan's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
I reload .223 its become an obsession! my first attempts at reloading were similar to yours. your best making an oal length gauge to measure your rifles chamber spacing. then try just off the lands with 3, then 20 thou off and then say 40 off all 3 shots with the best powder charge of your choice. what I'm suggesting is overall length is a biggey. make sure you have the right barrel twist or your bullet length a 1 in 12 sounds good for your bullets. also sounds like your neck tension might be a little too loose or inconsistent if you can push bullets back into the neck. make -
I think some get way too touchy about this question. when I was asking the same question I wished someone would have just spelt it out like this: save looking stupid in front of the firearms officer do your research what the local police allow for fox beforehand. after which keep in your mind that .22lr will kill foxes up to 50/60 yards ok. .17hmr up to 100/120 ok .223 up to say 200-300 yards fine. the question then becomes, what ranges will you be meeting Charlie (small fields/woodland/back gardens or large fields) well placed heart or head shots recommended on all occas

Second Hand Fac Huntsman Where To Buy One
riflehunter583 posted a topic in General Airgun Discussion
I am looking at buying a second hand daystate huntsman airgun in fac. has anyone crooned the first 20 shots, if so was it within 15fps spread? -
bit stuck with that one, but have though about it many times. I can only think about sending a light particle / photon beam to kill the rabbit lol It wont be long bi-leave me ,it wont be long photon beam rifle :hmm: it will probably be made by daystate  atvbmac  I doubt daystate will come up with it.

YOU CAN NOT BLAME THE RIFLE FOR A BADLY PLACED SHOT ...you would need to use 64 gr Match Grade Buger bullet in your .223 to get the same BC as one of my .204 Blitzking 39grn bullets ..the 204 is a vg foxing round out to 500yrds past that buy another rifle or get a 204 with a 1-8 twist so you can shoot a 55 grn bullet with a BC 0.381 now thats high .you would need to shoot a 6mm using 88 gr Match Grade High BC FB Varmint to get a close with a BC 0.391 Buger Bullets .. those .204 39grainers seem to have similar BC to the 223 53g vmax I load. the vmax expand very well and do not suffer

Elliot, Thanks For The Rifle!

heres a tip for you. when the farmer puts the hay out for the sheep get him to put the hay in an area with a safe backstop. when the sheep are away shoot the magpies that steal the seeds from the hay. helps If you rent the field to the farmer in the first place!!! Just wondered, some folk new to even .22lr don't realise just how far the bullet travels, not trying to be sarcastic, just helpful. that's ok. -

Not quite as much i have found, possibly due to the speed of the bullet. what 223 twist and bullet weight are you comparing your 204 wind drift with?

Mamba 50Mm Or 44Mm?
riflehunter583 replied to riflehunter583's topic in Shooting Equipment & Accessories
its got the 223 bdc reticule its a flawless scope. so light, well made and crystal clear and not bulky. I believe the Nikons are made in the same factory as the nightforces scopes. local magpies better watch out. that vortex looks good never tried one will have to get the wallet out as my little .22 deserves it being one of the best 22 rim fires made of all time -
Variation For A Foxing Riffle
riflehunter583 replied to dicky das's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
the rifle will depend a lot on your land. I WOULD CHOOSE THE RIFLE TO FIT THE LAND. if you are on land with smaller fields/lots of dead ground then a hornet or 222 is perfectly good for foxing. and cheaper to run and less noisy than the larger cals. especially If your shooting around the edge of farms where farmers live! if you have larger fields with not so much dead ground a 22250 243 is a good choice along with 223 Ackley improved. 243 has great resale value and is really popular being universally deer legal. saying that I shoot on a farm with 300-400 yard long fields and my 223 -
Mamba 50Mm Or 44Mm?
riflehunter583 replied to riflehunter583's topic in Shooting Equipment & Accessories
hello Elliott I brought the rifle off you. funny enough I have a Nikon monarch 3- 12 x 42 bdc on it and its shoots great and looks great too. light as a feather. chaps I'm after a nice scope for my .22 rimmy and cannot find a decent one that I like. must have brought and sold 12 and nothing fits. needs to have holdover points like the mtc but as good as the Nikons for low light mill rads and keep zero -

riflehunter583 replied to riflehunter583's topic in Shooting Equipment & Accessories
I have the 3-12 * 42 monarch already on another rifle. flawless with gen 1 I can see out to 200yards with a laser illuminator. very impressed with Nikon kit. so impressed I brought some nilon 10 x 50 binos and they are excellent. only reason for interest in mtc is for the Christmas tree reticule for use with .22lr holding over true mill dots. -
Variation For A Foxing Riffle
riflehunter583 replied to dicky das's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
spoke to a chap last week he uses hornet for fox and said on a good day he could put them into an inch at 200 yards! with his home loads. said it was cheap as chips to run. -
if you decide to do the dsc1 I can highly recommend the http://www.stalkingschool.co.uk/outings3.html top chaps up there if you are willing to travel.

if I were you I would join basc and tell them the story see what they advise. if you are allowed to control vermin on the land; checking the farmers agreement with the landowner. keep your phone handy record any intimidation even if its just recording the sound. better still leave the gun at home go out on the land walking around and look for the opportunity to film or record them when you think they will be there. lets call it an ambush. once you have them on mp3 or hd video you have some real ammo to play with trust me, I have recorded dodgy folk in the past, saved me over
